As a guest of the Newport Yacht Club you will have access to the clubhouse, free wireless Internet, indoor and outdoor lounges and electric hookup for 30 and 50 amp in addition to many other gracious accommodations. If you are not looking to stray too far from the Yacht Club, the Clubhouse has a full bar and pub and seasonal grill nights that all visitors are welcome to.

The location of the Newport Yacht Club is ideal for taking quick day trips to the historic and beautiful Block Island. If you wish to stay within Newport, you can take a stroll down the bustling Thames Street to explore Newport’s famed waterfront. For those making extended stays in Newport, Thames Street is where you will find many of the hotels, shops, bars and restaurants.

Not only is Newport a city known for their extensive boating culture, but it is also known worldwide for the breathtaking “Newport Mansions." We recommend taking a walking tour of one of these beautifully preserved architectural landmarks, for instance The Breakers Mansion . On your way back to the Newport Yacht Club, make a pit stop at the newly renovated International Tennis Hall of Fame to play a quick game, or to learn about the sport’s fascinating history.

Visiting NHYC

The Newport Harbor Yacht Club is a private club that welcomes reciprocal visitors provided that they have a current membership card from their respective yacht club. A letter of introduction in advance of your visit is greatly appreciated. Upon arrival at NHYC, visitors are asked to check in at the front desk and obtain a guest card.

Guest cards are valid for a period of 10 consecutive days. Reciprocal guests are welcome to enjoy all of the amenities at NHYC. All charges in the clubhouse must be paid with cash or credit card.

NHYC is open Wednesday through Sunday. Dining at the club includes the Chart Room and Dining Room, where a full menu of dishes prepared by our Executive Chef and his team is offered in a slightly more formal setting. The Pirate’s Den Bar provides a more casual dining experience but offers the same great menu. Dining al fresco on our Patio is offered seasonally and is a great place to enjoy the spectacular view of the harbor.

Amenities and House Rules

There are showers and restrooms available on a 24-hour basis, located on the east side of the property near the NHYC beach. Animals are not permitted on the property at any time.

Cell phones are not permitted in the clubhouse or on the main deck.

Shirts and shoes are required at all times while in the clubhouse.

Visiting Yachts

Unfortunately, NHYC has no visitor slips and extremely limited visitor dock space. However, NHYC has several guest moorings and offers shore boat service to and from the club from 0730 hours until sunset. The NHYC main dock, located directly in front of the club, is for temporary use only.

If you are planning to visit NHYC, please contact the NHYC Dockmaster at 949-355-7974 to make arrangements prior to your arrival.

Upon Arrival

All yachts visiting NHYC must identify themselves by flying their respective yacht club burgee.

Contact the NHYC dock crew on VHF 71 (0730-sunset) once you have passed Bay Island, and they will be able to direct you to your guest mooring.

If you arrive after hours, you may tie up to the main dock in front of the club. However, someone must remain aboard the boat until you are able to make contact with the dock crew.

Go to the front desk and fill out a guest moorage registration form immediately. Fees are to be paid by cash or credit card at the time of registration.

Harbour Court

On Friday, June 10, 1988, 1,500 New York Yacht Club members and guests attended the first commissioning of Harbour Court, the club's first permanent waterfront facility. Standing on eight acres overlooking Brenton's Cove, the Renaissance Norman-style mansion was completed in 1906 for the John Nicholas Brown family. John Nicholas Brown was commodore of the NYYC from 1952-54.

The natural alliance between the New York Yacht Club and Newport, Rhode Island began three days after the club's founding on Friday, August 2, 1844, when a fleet of the founders' eight yachts got underway from the Battery bound for Newport on the first summer Cruise. Many summer Cruises – known as the Annual Cruise -- included a stop in Newport. Then beginning in 1930 the NYYC conducted the America's Cup in Newport -- first in J-Class yachts and then 12 Metres -- until losing it in 1983.

John Nicholas Brown died in 1979 while aboard the Malagueña. After his wife Anne Brown's death in 1985, her children put the property on the market. Meanwhile, some members of the New York Yacht Club were thinking that the club could benefit from owning a waterfront property. John Nicholas Brown had on occasion mused that Harbour Court would make a fine yacht club. The NYYC purchased the property in 1987.

Following the loss of the America's Cup, Harbour Court created a new energy and focus at the NYYC. The facility became the national- and international-focal point of many of yachting's premier events. The New York Yacht Club has hosted Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex since 1998 and many other regattas in recent years including world championships for the Etchells, J/70, Farr 40 and Melges 20 classes, the J Class Worlds, the Global Team Race Regatta, the Transatlantic Race, and the IC37 National Championships to name a few. The Club is also highly active in team and match racing. In 2006, the Club purchased 14 Sonars in dedication of these activities. In 2014, the fleet was increased to 22 Sonars, and today, team racing at the New York Yacht Club offers some of the most intense competition in the country. Since 2009 the New York Yacht Club has conducted the biennial Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. After a successful decade of racing in the Swan 42, the eighth one-design class created by the New York Yacht Club since 1900, the Invitational Cup transitioned to using the Club's fleet of 20 IC37 race boats in 2019. These purpose-built machines, combined with one-design sails from North Sails, identical gear and standardized rig tune, create a level platform for amateur big-boat racing. Yacht club teams worldwide and Corinthian (amateur) sailors flock to Newport to race in this competition. During the first Invitational Cup in 2009, 19 yacht club teams from 14 countries and four continents competed, and the New York Yacht Club emerged as the winner. Since 2009, more than 1,000 sailors, comprised of teams from more than 40 yacht clubs representing 21 countries and all six continents, have competed in at least one edition of the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. Newport

The Newport collection draws inspiration from the relaxed yet sophisticated lifestyle of the coast. Traditional designs suggest an air of familiarity, but the styling is fresh and fashionable. The collection offers two complementary light wood finishes, Sandstone and Sailcloth, as well as three shades of woven raffia and two chic painted finishes. Barclay’s signature styling features a rich, sophisticated layering of pattern, color and texture, setting the tone for his unique interpretation of new traditional design. Soft linens and cottons in Barclay’s iconic blue and white, celadon and ivory, and soft shades of taupe and gray convey a relaxed aesthetic, reflecting the casual elegance of coastal living.
