It is important to consider that, depending on the weather, it can take up to 4 hours to sail between St. Thomas and Tortola.

In addition, the yacht, crew, and guests have to undergo immigration procedures upon arrival , which can also take some time.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a prime sailing destination, typically starting from Tortola, the largest island, where many charters are based.

From there, you can explore east to Virgin Gorda, famous for The Baths National Park, a natural wonder of seaside boulders and pools.

North Sound, close by, offers luxurious resorts and watersports.

Virgin Gorda is the third largest island in the British Virgin Islands, with just over 4,000 people.

It’s known for its beautiful white sands, the rock pools known as The Baths National Park , and world-class luxury resorts and clubs for BVI yacht charters.

There are also some great hiking trails on Virgin Gorda with sweeping views of the island’s coastline-making it an ideal destination for visitors with  bareboat catamarans .

After soaking up the sunshine and saltwater activities in Virgin Gorda, consider visiting the Copper Mine National Park . These 19th-century abandoned ruins are found between Copper Mine Bay and Crooks Bay on the island’s southeastern point. The structures were built by Cornish miners and housed around 130 families before the mine was closed in 1862.

Jost Van Dyke

On top of this base fee, an advance provisioning allowance (APA) is added, typically around 20-30% of the yacht’s base rental cost.

How do i get to my bvi yacht charter.

• British Virgin Islands: Lettsome International Airport – on Beef Island
• United States Virgin Islands: Cyril E. King Airport – in St. Thomas

These are the two international airports in the Virgin Islands.

Regardless of whether you are going to charter in the BVI or ISVI, you will find better flight connections to St. Thomas .

The airport in the BVI is small, and there are fewer flights on smaller planes.

On the other hand, the airport in St. Thomas has regular connections from many major US Cities such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York, Atlanta, and more.

My Charter Starts in the BVI, but I am Flying into the USVI?

Most people arrive on the 16.15 flight in St. Thomas, and the last ferry to the BVI has already left, so you need to spend the night .

The next day, you can either take the public ferry,  which makes multiple trips daily between St. Thomas and Tortola, or we can arrange a private taxi transfer directly to your yacht.

Once you have arrived at your yacht you will meet your crew and get settled in. Your charter begins at 12 p.m./noon .

When is the Best Time for a Yacht Charter in the British Virgin Islands?

The main charter season in the British Virgin Islands spans from December to March , with a peak around Christmas/New Year.

Make sure to book your BVI yacht charter well in advance. Ideally, you would inquire about your coming charter 12 months in advance .

WHY? The best charter yachts are often fully booked long in advance, and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked  2 summers ahead  for a BVI yacht charter. Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter.

A crewed yacht charter is a perfect blend of all the finest ingredients of first class stateroom accommodation on a luxury liner, and the exciting freedom of cruising on your own private yacht.

There are no deadlines or sailing schedules on a crewed yacht.

Except that we do try to schedule at the bare minimum .... one "Happy Hour" a day!

Different crews and different yachts.

Each one of our members entertains and cares for their guests in a unique and individual way.

Romantic sailboats, fast racing machines, spacious and luxurious multihulls and classic motor yachts, we have them all in the Charter Yacht Society. Each one lovingly kept in superb condition by their owners or crew.

High speed, low speed or just cruising in neutral.

So you want to become a certified diver during your Caribbean cruise? No problem! Some of our boats carry a full scuba programme for all levels of diving expertise. For those that don't, they will arrange your certification through Rendezvous, or any one of the professional dive centres in the BVI. Many of them have high speed water sport toys including water skis, wake/knee boards or tubes. Ever tried spinnaker-flying? How about e-foiling? The adventures are endless. If it isn't on board, it can be sourced. Or perhaps a private afternoon on a Virgin Islands deserted beach is more your style. For guests who prefer to remain on board, entertainment choices are broad and may include hifi sound systems, large screen smart tv's with selections as abundant as if in your own home and, of course, the ever reliable board games.

And then again, you could just enjoy the company of your hosts, and their wonderful stories of round-the-world sailing and racing. Alternatively, relax with one of their cocktail "specials" that ensures a sighting of the elusive green flash in a Caribbean sunset.

Yacht description.

You will relish your time onboard Bagherra, a 2017 Lagoon 620 Essence catamaran. It is spacious and modern and offers four queen size cabins, all with immaculate ensuite facilities. The salon has loads of natural light from the wraparound windows, plus there is excellent headroom, which adds to the light and airy feel. The comfortable leather sofa can also be used as a formal dining option with the high low table.

Outside there are three spots with an abundance of space so everyone can have their own privacy should they want it. The cockpit offers a shaded dining option as well as comfy seating and a lounging pad. “Upstairs”, the flybridge offers a further space to relax and then forward there are the trampolines for the sun worshipers. There are three crew members with a dedicated chef so, even with a full yacht, your every need is met.

Our personal opinion

Why book Bagherra – ENJOYING THE WATER – Bagheera has an extensive selection of water toys and has a 16ft dinghy with a 70hp outboard so it is perfect for skiing or wakeboarding. There is also a kiddie’s water slide and sea scooters – oh, and they also have a huge floating island if you want less excitement! Add to this, a fabulous well established crew, super tasty gourmet food and masses of space and you will fall in love with Bagheera, as we have done.

Rendezvous diving

If your crewed charter yacht does not offer onboard diving then fear not, rendezvous diving can be arranged.

So what is Rendezvous diving?

A local dive company will pick you up direct from your charter yacht at a pre-determined location and take you for a one- or two-tank dive to experience the BVI below the water. This is an excellent option if only a couple of guests wish to dive or can work equally as well if all your group are interested. If your charter yacht offers minimal onboard diving, then rendezvous diving can also work if you wanted to add a few more dives during your charter.

Rendezvous diving is at additional cost, payable locally. The dive company provides all gear.

With new direct flights from Miami (MIA) to Tortola (EIS) via American Airlines, traveling to the British Virgin Islands has never been easier.

• Seaborne Airlines has 32-seat, air-conditioned planes and code share with Delta Airlines, American Airlines, and US Airways.
• Cape Air has small 9-seat aircraft and code share with Jet Blue Airways.
• interCaribbean Airways has a 30-seat aircraft and code share with British Airways, out of Antigua.

FLIGHTS FROM EUROPE

The easiest way to reach the British Virgin Islands from Europe is via Paris. Air France flies daily from Paris (CDG) to Sint Martin (SXM). Then you fly with Winair or Liat in about 40 minutes to Tortola (EIS).

Alternatively, Air Caraibes and Corsair also offer flights from Paris to St. Martin.

Or you can reach Tortola BVI via Miami and Puerto Rico.

TRAVELER’S INFORMATION

• Constant trade winds with average temperatures of 80-92˚ Fahrenheit provide the perfect setting for casual summer attire during daytime and nice casual nighttime attire.
• A valid passport is the principal entry requirement into the BVI. All U.S. and Canadian citizens must present a valid passport for all travel. Currency in the BVI is the U.S. Dollar.
• An environmental and tourism levy of $10 per person (3 years & older) will be collected on arrival at the ports of entry.
• There is a $50 tax for all passengers, payable on leaving the BVI by air. If you’re departing the BVI by ferry, a departure tax of $20 per person or $15 for residents is payable.
