Green Bay - Mary Ellen (Kimps) Van De Yacht, 76, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, March 7, 2022, after complications with ovarian cancer.

Mary was a faithful servant, devoted follower of Christ, and life-long member of St. John the Baptist Church in Howard, Wisconsin where she received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Last Rites.

Mary was born on October 10, 1945, in Green Bay to the late Bernard and Luella (Williams) Kimps. She attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph Academy. After high school, she worked for her parent's hardware store in Howard (Kimps Hardware). Mary met her life partner, Leo Van De Yacht, while attending the wedding of Leo's cousin Sally and Mary's brother Gary. On September 18, 1965 she and Leo married. They shared 46 years of marriage and raised four children. Together they built Leo Van De Yacht Well Drilling where she was the company's bookkeeper until her retirement in Spring of 2021. For the last 10 years of their marriage, Mary was the steadfast caretaker of Leo, who died of Alzheimer's in 2011. She later found companionship with Arnie Mahlik whom she met in a caretaker support group.

Faith and family were everything to Mary. She treasured tradition, and many of the rituals Mary and Leo established together have been passed down to their children and grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life. She relished the simple things in life like watching sports, baking, playing cards, reading, going for walks, golfing, attending mass (especially St. John's school mass), and doing crafts. She served others through volunteering, being a Eucharistic Minister, and participating as a member of Christian Mothers. One of her favorite events was the Spring Getaway where she would model at the fashion show.

She kept impeccable notes on every aspect of her life, had the best gift of not taking herself too seriously, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She loved spending time at their cottage, "Yacht's Landing," on Rost Lake with family and friends. It was her source of joy as she spent hours on the lake taking boat rides, cooking, watching sunsets, sitting around campfires, and playing games. She enjoyed spending time in Florida, and taking vacations ranging from camping to cruises and international travel.

Mary will be sadly missed by her four children and their spouses, Lisa (Scott) Ives, Lori (Jay) Feuerstein, Troy (Traci) Van De Yacht, and Eric (Tracy) Van De Yacht; grandchildren, Tyler (Morgan), Alex (special friend, Emma), Ryan (special friend, Hayley), Grant, Burke, Travis, Sophie, Carson, Reese, and Bryce. She was granted her final wish of becoming a great-grandmother to Zoey Marie Ives who was born on March 4. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Donna (James) Simoens, Roger (Star) Kimps, Carol (Rick) Van Egeren, and sister-in-law Sally Kimps. She is further survived by Leo's family, Bill (Bernadine), Bob (Susie), Diane (Chuck) Tappa, Ken (Lyn), Nick (Amy), Gery (Carol), Kevin (Carol), Dennis Kabara, Dawn (Rick) Niemi, Donna (John) Thormann, and Bernie (Valerie). She is also survived by her special companion, Arnie; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Bernard and Luella (Williams) Kimps; her father and mother-in-law, Bernard "Dutch" and Vi Van De Yacht; brother, Gary Kimps; sisters-in-law, Debbie Kabara and Cindee Van De Yacht; and nephew, Gregory Kimps.

Mary was a blessing. To know her was to know the goodness and love of God. She will be deeply missed.

We welcome family and friends to St. John the Baptist Church, 2597 Glendale Avenue, Howard, on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. James Lucas officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com .

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice, Dr. Groteluschen and the staff at Green Bay Oncology, and Dr. Stevens. Also, a special thank you to family and friends for your prayers, love, support, visits, and meals.

A memorial fund will be established in Mary's name.

When someone passes, people always ask, "Why did God take them?" A better question would be, "Why did God give them to us?" What did we do to deserve their love, their joy, the sweet moments we shared?" – Mitch Albom

Steve Dal Porto Halter Training

Steve Dal Porto

Growing up on the Dal Porto family ranch where they raised Black Angus cattle, Steve always felt the best part of working cattle was that you got to ride your horse. He attended University of Colorado where he played football (also 2 bowl games) and received his BA in Business with an emphasis in Marketing and Advertising.

While in Colorado, he visited several top Appaloosa Breeders who influenced Steve's future, including renowned breeder, Hank Weiscamp. Steve quickly became a fan of the Appaloosa breed and when he returned to the family ranch after graduation, he began the Dal Porto Ranch Horse program.

Uniquely Experienced

His combined experiences give him unique skills and knowledge to incorporate in the development of a highly successful Show horse training program. Throughout the years, he has shown hundreds of National and World Champion Halter Horses.

Award winning

Awarded the coveted Appaloosa Horse Club Trainer of the year, Steve is dedicated to improving the Appaloosa breed. He has promoted Leading sire and Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of fame inductee Maids Dream and also promoted 3 stallions who were inducted into the Cal Western Hall of fame. To date, over 400 National and World Champions have been made at Dal Porto Ranch.

Carol Dal Porto Horse trainer, horseback riding instructor and coach

Carol Dal Porto

Born a horse crazy girl, Carol spent hours riding bareback in the hills of the McDonald Forest in exchange for promising her mom to do chores and clean her room. Her first horse was an Appaloosa and while she took lessons in Western, Dressage and English, her love for the Appaloosa has stayed with her throughout her career.

From an early age

She began showing at the age of 9, competing at local shows and eventually moved on to national competitions winning her first National Championship showing in the open division at age 18. She has competed and won National & World Championships in Western Pleasure, Trail and Western Riding.

Carol moved to California and after marrying Steve (who shares her love for the Appaloosa) expanded her performance horse training business. The Dal Porto Ranch riding program was designed and developed out of Carol's desire to share these magnificent animals along with the joy that comes from learning to ride.

Award winning students

Her students have won numerous national and world titles and while most are from northern California, she has also taught students from across the United States and Canada. Horse trainers from Germany and Italy have even come to the ranch to study with her. She is also a past president of the Appaloosa Pleasure Horse Association and the Cal-Western Appaloosa Association.

“What a treasure this program has been! I knew to expect something special as this program is well known for quality services, but the might it carries outside of the barn has been life changing in ways I could not have anticipated. Today I have the ability to turn weaknesses into natural strengths. I have developed skill and insights that boost my confidence, self-assurance, fortitude and poise. While these assets certainly provide insurmountable competitive advantages, the real gift is the marvelous tapestry they weave into every area of my life, every day.”
