Squadron Harbour View Restaurant, RMYC, Manly, Qld. Dine by the marina and overlook the bay. Terrific service & fresh produce. Royal Manly Yacht Club #facxual_events

royal queensland yacht club restaurant

Utterly disappointed!!!! Order the seafood platter for two (just under $100) and got 1.5kg chips 4 small oysters 4 frozen small prawns 1 frozen flavourless moreton bay bug 1 small salad some Aldi S& P Calamari 3 small strips of battered fish Ordered a margarita at the bar & was told to go back to table they'd bring it over, had to ask for it after the (dismal) platter arrived, and it arrived in a whiskey tumbler full of ice and rock salt. Was an absolute waste of money and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.. The chef & kitchen staff should be ashamed of themselves.

The RQYS is a gated complex that encompasses a cafe and bar, function areas and big marina, where berths can be bought or leased. It's home to a sailing and a powerboat fraternity and I've only been there for a functions; a wedding, an end of year do and a state government thing. The backdrop of boats and bay is gorgeous, so definitely worth a visit. The Boardwalk cafe has and interesting looking menu, priced about the same as the other Manly cafes, but haven't tried it.

Its possibly the best keep secret in Qld. The best atmosphere and views you could imagine. Food Wed to Sunday is excellent. Menu whilst not massive its a classy ready with plenty to choose from. Beer is cold and the wine list is impressive. Its worth a visit. I know people that have been to weddings n functions and they were really wrapped. Highly recommended.

The restaurant ambience was great, the staff very helpful, friendly and polite. The Food awful!! Had the Bang Bang Chicken & Prawn Salad!!! There were 2 prawns a mini amount of chicken, a couple of cashews, limp lettuce leaf, more rocket type lettuce and a mountain of shredded carrot!! Unbelievable for a quality restaurant to serve such poor and mean portions of food. I sent the plate back to have it returned with some more prawns, some more chicken a couple more cashews, but still the same pile of lettuce and carrot I had pushed to one side earlier. I was offered not to pay, or order something else, which I did, a steak (to be safe), but before the steak was even cooked the old salad dish was given back to me.

Description

One of Australia’s premier yacht clubs overlooking the Manly Boat Harbour, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is proud of its long history dating back to 1885 when established and still to this day is “the place” for boaties to meet, compete and socialise. The Squadron has evolved into a multi-faceted organisation and members, some third and fourth generation families, enjoy a comprehensive range of facilities, both on and off the water.

With 2 days remaining at the Hempel Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018, Squadron sailors have done a fine job so far, especially those competing in their first World Championship.

Simmonds/Von Richter Sailing have jumped up the order after the first day of racing in Silver Fleet of the Nacra17, and Charlie Wyatt continues to perform well in the 49er. The 49ers will be racing on the Stadium with streaming available on the Aarhus Facebook page later today.

For many of our sailors the competition has concluded, so if you can't wait for the complete rundown you can find the results for all classes below.

Some great results coming in from our sailors at the Hempel Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018.

Well done to Sam and Max on this great effort in the Nacra 17.

Good luck to the rest of the team as they compete in Denmark!

Congratulations Andrew Wiklund & Crankster!

We had a great day on the bay on Friday for the Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race. With competitors crossing the finish since the early hours of this morning, led by Wild Oats XI who took out Line Honours, it's been a challenging but rewarding race for most so far.

Visit the Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race Facebook Page for live race updates and more!

Best of luck to our sailors who are about to commence competition in the Hempel Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018 in Denmark. The first opportunity for sailors to qualify their country for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Squadron sailors competing are:

RSX Women: Samantha Costin ... Laser Mens: Mitchell Kennedy and Daniel Self Laser Radial Womens: Mara Stransky Finn: Jake Lilley (pictured) and Lewis Brake 470 Mens: Mat Belcher and Will Ryan 470 Womens: Shelley White and Emma Baillie 49er: Charlie Wyatt 49erFX: Jaime Ryan Nacra 17: Samantha Simmonds and Max Von Richter

We wish them all the best of luck for the event and wish the Australian Sailing Team the best of luck in this major international event.

The Vintage yacht regatta run by our friends at QCYC is always a beautiful sight. Well done to a large number of squadron boats and sailors who took part!

Well done to Squadron Super-Maxi Black Jack on taking line honours in the Sydney to Gold Coast Race.

Round 2 will start on Friday with the Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race!

Good luck to a number of squadron boats and members still racing, the conditions have been challenging but the racing looks close throughout the field.

Well done to the sailing team from Iona College, all Squadron members, who competed at the Australian Schools Team Racing Championship.

They finished in 7th place over all for the regatta which was a great result for the team and the school. The team was Alexander Dunstan (Captain), Caleb Palmer, Hayden Barney, Rory Andersen, Ben Coleborn, Finn Meehan and Harry Weiland.

Great to see all members of the team are all active members in the RQYouthSquad program in Lasers, Flyin...g 11s and 29ers.

Well done too to the team from Brisbane Boys College who also took part including a number of RQ members.

2018 International Finn Class QLD State Championships Presentation. Congratulations to all of our competitors for a great regatta!

This week we were fortunate enough to have Lachlan from Sheldon College, Brisbane doing some work experience with us! Lachlan was a Flying 11 sailor in a former life and is now an avid sail cruiser with his family and dad - who is a regular WAGS competitor.

His sailing experience certainly gave him an advantage in collecting footage of our Musto Australasia Queensland Youth Week and WAGS - Wednesday Afternoon Go Sailing events! It's certainly no easy task to film on the water, and Lachlan definitely rose to and overcame this challenge.

Check out the finished video below!

Good luck to Daniel Self - Olympic Laser Campaign in his trip to Aarhus for the World Sailing Championships.

He joins a host of other Squadron members at the event, the first country place qualifier for the Tokyo Games.

Well done to our RQYouthSquad sailors who competed in Queensland Youth Week, you can see the results for all the members who took part below.

It was great to see such strong competition between our young sailors in the various fleets, and well done to all the boys and girls, and young ladies and gentlemen, who took on the competition in good spirits. Great effort from all of your Junior and Youth sailors and a thank-you also to those members who were out Coaching for them as part of the program: Greg Kemp, Josh Sloman, Alex Watson, Nat Dutton, Danny Fuller and George Morton. Well done also to Katy Jones and the Academy team for a great set of Opti results and a fun Green Fleet camp and regatta.

Lastly a very big thankyou to our team of Volunteers, led by PRO Louise Davis, and the course Race Officers John O'Brien and Alan Crawford. As always the Volunteer team from RQYS sets the standard!

Musto Australasia Queensland Youth Week finished up yesterday in perfect conditions on Waterloo Bay, 12 to 15 knot Southerly breezes and warm sunshine!

The Bravo Course Junior classes had some tight racing and the "personal best" day was achieved in the Opti Intermediate Course where RQYS sailor, Zane Taylor nailed four bullets to finish his regatta, which took him to 2nd overall behind Jack Scharf from Port Denison Sailing Club - 150th Anniversary. The racing in Intermediate... fleet was close over the whole event, and we can be confident that the fleet had a big education over the regatta, and all displayed great sportsmanship and skill.

Lucy Leith closed out her regatta well to win the Optimist Open division, while James Beveridge was successful in the Sabot Class. The Open Bic Queensland Championship title was won by Tinaroo Sailing Club's Travis Wadley, while Hamish Swain held onto his lead in the Bic Techno 293 Sailboard - Australia Techno Plus class, with Max Irvin winning the 293.

On the Alpha Course the close results in the Laser 4.7 class continued, with RQYS's Orla Amos taking 2 wins to finally jump ahead and win, while in the Radial Fraser Brew was successful in winning every race of the regatta, although this did not do justice to the tight racing in the Radial fleet.

In the Double-Handed classes it was Southport Yacht Club - Main Beach, Hollywell & Duxs Angus Sherring and Oscar Grey who asserted themselves in the 420 against both the other 420s, and the 125s who took part. In the Fling 11 it was Sophie O'Loughlin and Max Nearn from NSW who were succesful with 2 wins on the final day.

The 29er Class saw close racing to the final day, but the lead pair were a step above the rest as they had been all regatta. Ash Daunt and Tom Needham (RQYS and Queensland Academy of Sport) were able to score 2, 2, 1, 1, to take a solid win.

Lastly, the Green Fleet event was a great success for those sailors who took part, evidenced by their competitive sailing in the conditions on the final day. It was a regatta for the girls in the end, as Elysia Albery and Georgina Johnston held the minor placings, and a spectacular regatta from Hannah Garland saw her win the event.

Thanks to all of our interstate visitors for joining us for a great regatta, we look forward to seeing all of them and more later in the year for RQYS Sail Brisbane!
