Unique Custom Built Endeavour 45 Cutter
Just before they went out of the monohull business Endeavour developed a new, larger, upscale cruising boat that they hoped would be the future of monohulls for the company. The new cutter was beautiful, well- built and a very comfortable cruiser. They shut down the effort after just one boat was built, this unique, great cruising boat. This boat is loaded with cruiser comforts.

Entering from the companionway the galley is aft on the port side. Forward of the galley in the saloon is a dinette. Opposite the dinette forward is a wine locker with an icemaker in a custom cabinet below. Aft of the wine locker/icemaker on the starboard side is a straight settee perfect for putting your feet up and reading a book. Just aft of the starboard settee is a forward facing nav station.
Aft of the saloon to port is the galley. The inboard side of the galley offers double stainless steel sinks and counter space. Doors offer access to the engine and generator. Opposite the sink on the outboard side next to the saloon is a top loading refrigerator and more counter space. Further aft is a built-in eye level microwave oven. The stove is below and more cunter space is further aft. At the aft end of the galley are stacked front opening refrigerator and freezer.
Entry to the owner's suite is at the aft end of the galley. The owner's suite features an island queen berth with seats and ample storage on each side. On the forward bulkhead is a custom vanity with pull-out bucket chair. Above the vanity is a flat panel TV with built-in DVD player. To starboard and forward is the owner's head and shower. The separate shower features a smoked acrylic door and a comfortable shower seat.
Forward of the saloon toward the entry to the VIP suite on the port side is the forward head with electric head and en suite shower. Two doors offer public access from the saloon and private access from the VIP stateroom. Opposite the forward head is the cabinet that houses a Splendide washer/dryer. The vee berth serves as a comfortable VIP berth.

Silver Ships Delivers Refurbished 11-Year-Old Workboat to The University of Southern Mississippi

Mobile, Ala. (January 14, 2020) – Silver Ships, Inc. today announces the delivery of a refurbished 48-foot workboat to The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The vessel in its original state was an Endeavor 45 built by Silver Ships in 2008 for the State of Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR).
The transformation from an Endeavor 45 constructed as a cabin patrol vessel for Mississippi DMR to an Endeavor 48 research vessel involved careful strategy, design and reconstruction. The vessel needed to be updated and refitted to serve as an offshore Research Vessel to support the USM School of Ocean Science and Engineering’s deep ocean underwater surveys using various Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle systems (UUVs).
Updates to the vessel include:
- Extension of the hull by three feet aft, with added tie-downs on the aft deck
- Blasted and painted all exterior and bottom of the vessel
- Installed 1,000 lb. lift crane and 850 lb. davit
- Improved the swim/dive platform
- Replaced generator, radar and multifunction display
- Installed retractable awning over aft deck
- Installed Zipwake dynamic trim control system
- Added removable railings over transom
- Repaired Waterjets and aligned Cummins QSM11 inboard diesel powertrain
- Replaced life raft and updated firefighting equipment
The new and improved vessel will conduct testing, maritime research and underwater surveys in the Gulf of Mexico for various private and governmental partners.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to breathe new life into an in-service Silver Ships-built workboat. This project was almost two years in the making and began with several meetings with USM to develop the project scope and produce an engineering plan. We conducted a stability study of the vessel to determine cargo payload and how the hull would need to be modified to support the University’s offshore mission. USM was very involved with every design and outfitting detail and the spirit of teamwork with the university has been fantastic. This refurbishment has helped to extend the life of this vessel for many more years of service,” said Shawn Lobree, Silver Ships project manager for the modification.
Silver Ships offers a robust refurbishment program for customers – approximately 15 percent of Silver Ships’ workload consists of refurbishment projects, which typically serve to modernize workboats and extend their service life through major overhauls.
“USM and Silver Ships staff have enjoyed a great relationship through design and execution of the modifications and refurbishing process. We are delighted to add this vessel to our research fleet to assist us in launching and recovery for uncrewed systems while enabling scientists a platform to monitor performance and conduct testing and evaluation,” said Dr. Kelly Lucas, USM Associate Vice President for Research, Coastal Operations.
