To those who know, a true Down East lobster yacht is the ultimate blend of form and function. Designed by renowned Down East architect Spencer Lincoln and built by Atlantic Boat Company, Ithaka’s classic New England work boat lines stand out in any harbor. The result of generations of progression in lobster boat design, the Duffy 42 was conceived as a work boat with a large cockpit and protected house to serve as a commercial lobster vessel on the often rough waters off the Maine coastline. Her “built down” hull form provides a stable ride through the worst sea conditions, easily powered by her single Lugger engine (maneuvering is aided by a powerful bow thruster). But she’s not all work boat. Her spacious cockpit (three feet longer than originally designed) functions as an extension of her main salon, a fantastic space to relax for the evening in a deck chair. Moving forward, Ithaka ’s beautifully crafted interior is warm and inviting – her open salon able to easily accommodate a number of guests for dinner or cocktails. Two spacious cabins provide comfortable accommodations for six (including the convertible salon berth), complemented nicely by a generously sized head with separate shower stall. Her owner has taken great pride in maintaining her systems to the highest degree and she has just returned from a summer trip to Alaska.

Interior Accommodations
Ithaka’s interior accommodations echo her overall theme – elegant, simple and comfortable. Her living spaces are finished in a combination of teak, off white paint and laminate. The cabin sole is teak and holly throughout with the exception of laminate with carpet overlay in the salon, and cabin doors are constructed of solid teak with laminate panels. Countertops in the galley and head are Corian. Staterooms feature ample storage space for long term cruising with large drawers and tall hanging lockers. Well placed handholds throughout make movement easy even in rough weather.
Starting forward, the spacious master stateroom features a walkaround berth at the forward end of the cabin. There are reading lamps on the bulkhead at the head of the berth. At the foot of the berth, four drawers provide excellent storage. The hull ceilings are finished with oak battens. At the starboard aft end of the cabin there are three draws and a locker. There is a hanging locker to port. Aft to starboard is a additional hanging locker and a locker with shelves. A flat screen TV is mounted above.
Aft and to port of the master stateroom is the head and separate shower stall . The head is finished in easy to maintain white painted surfaces. A Dometic electric head is located at the aft end of the compartment. There is a mirror on the bulkhead. A Corian countertop stretches the length of the compartment forward of the toilet. At the forward end of the counter is the sink with a small locker below and three drawers. Outboard along the hull side, a sliding door locker with shelf above provides additional storage for small items. Just aft of the head is the large separate shower stall. A opening port provides ventilation. There is a large locker outboard in the shower stall.
Across the passageway to starboard is the guest stateroom . Two bunks outboard provide sleeping arrangements for two. Reading lamps over each berth provide task lighting in addition to overhead light. Below the lower bunk there is storage space. At the aft inboard end of the cabin, there is a bank of three drawers. A mirrored cabinet provides access to the back of the dash. Two opening ports and a small overhead hatch provide ventilation.
Three stairs lead up the passageway from the forward cabins to the main salon. The forward end of the salon is dedicated to the helm and navigation station . To starboard is the helm station with folding seat. From this seat, there is excellent 360 degree visibility and easy access to all of her controls and navigational systems. Windows surround the salon and there are windshield wipers and defrosters on the three forward windows. To starboard, a sliding door allows access to the side decks and provides great ventilation. Opposite the helm station to port, there is another folding seat. There is a chart table forward with storage below in a lift-top locker. Outboard is a sliding door that provides access to the side deck.
At the starboard aft end of the main salon is a large U-shaped dinette that will comfortably seat six. The settees are upholstered in a tan/blue pattern. The dinette table is of beautifully varnished teak. The large windows slide open to allow another source of fresh air. A stainless compression post wrapped with leather at the forward inboard end of the dinette provides a good handhold for moving about the cabin. Two drawers on the inboard end of the settee benches provide readily accessible storage. There is additional storage space below the seats. Curtains are fitted on all of the windows in the aft end of the salon.
The galley is opposite the dinette to port along the cabin side. The L-shaped counter makes excellent use of the space and allows the chef to interact with guests while relaxing at anchor or watch the scenery while under way. A front-loading refrigerator/freezer is located at the aft end of the counter. Just forward is the Dickinson three burner propane stove and oven with pot and pan storage below. The window outboard slides open and allows for excellent cross ventilation. Forward and inboard is the deep sink with single lever faucet. Below the sink is a large locker and drawer. At the forward end of the galley counter there are three drawers. There is built in storage above the counter for silverware, utensils, etc.

Deck and Hull
Ithaka’s hull is blue Awlgrip with a gold pin stripe and white boot stripe. Her bottom is painted black. She has a spray knocker that extends about half her length aft from the bow. There is another rub rail that extends along the aft quarter of the hull. At the transom, there is a teak swim platform. A swim ladder to starboard folds up under the swimstep. A hinged door at the starboard side allows easy access from the cockpit to the swimstep. Ithaca’s spacious cockpit echoes her workboat feel. The space is fantastic for relaxing at anchor in her folding deck chairs. The cockpit is trimmed with varnished teak. Storage is available in lockers beneath the bench at the forward end of the cockpit and the lazarette space below the cockpit which is accessed via four Freeman Marine water tight deck hatches. Ithaka’s side decks can be accessed either from the cockpit or via sliding doors to port and starboard at the forward end of the cabin. A tall pulpit rail extends forward to the bow. Handrails also run along the cabin top to port and starboard. The foredeck is easily navigated and provides excellent access to the bow pulpit with dual anchor rollers. A Lofrans windlass with up and down foot controls is mounted just aft of the pulpit.
Ithaka’s upper deck is accessed via a ladder from the foredeck. Handrails run the length of the house top to port and starboard. There is an articulating davit to port that allows a dinghy to be stored on the cabin top.
Ithaka’s underwater configuration is based on generations of development in lobster boat design. Her “built down” semi displacement hull is well regarded for its seakeeping ability, aided by a fine entry, fuller midships sections below the waterline and a full length keel. The five blade bronze propeller is protected by a skeg which extends from the aft end of the keel. Aft, her hull shape flattens which allows her to run at speeds at good cruising speeds if necessary. Her construction is of solid fiberglass below the waterline with balsa core above the waterline and in her deck and house.

The Jongert 2700M ITHAKA ist the the 5th launch of the highly successful JONGERT 2700M series, crafted with expertise by the renowned Dutch Jongert Shipyard. She represents a coveted luxury sailing yacht, improving and advancing beyond her predecessors.
World famous yacht Architect Doug Peterson has redesigned the hull lines and the aft deck including the two outside steering stations and Van Oossanen naval architects have designed a special wing keel and an elliptic balance rudder ensuring heightened performance while sailing.
A 3m taller carbon mast with carbon boom and hydraulic in-boom furling was chosen to further improve performance. Bow- and stern thrusters are in place to guarantee effortless maneuvering.
ITHAKA's deck is a masterclass in design. Two unobstructed, panoramic steering positions offer a seamless sailing experience. A generously sized seating area ahead of the steering stations, complete with two cocktail tables, becomes an inviting setting for relaxation and entertainment.
The versatile deckhouse, which can be entirely closed in colder climates, adds to the luxury of ITHAKA. The adjustable windows on both sides offer the option of enjoying the natural breeze. A convertible table creates a lounge bed, promising comfort in any weather.
ITHAKA features some attractive technical details:
- Integrated in-boom furling with mainsail traveler and foresails furled on two hydraulic furlers providing a two-person crew the ability to operate the yacht effortlessly and securely.
- Optimized and strategically relocated standing rigging and foresail sheets running underdeck, offering a safe and unobstructed walk on deck.
- Dinghy safely stowed in recessed superstructure (multifunctional storage for tender / gennakers in regatta sailing or as kids’ bath). It takes the two crew max 3 minutes to lower or stow the dinghy!
- Huge lazarette, with folding bathing platform, for all toys, diving gear, bicycles, fishing gear etc.
- Large aft platform for easy and secure access to dinghy or swimming.
Below deck, the interior is a sanctuary of tranquility. The “floating” interior design eliminates noise and vibration, enhancing the ambiance of serenity. This is further enhanced with water separators on main engine and generator exhausts for quiet operation.
A beautiful and modern pear wood was chosen to create a light and luxurious atmosphere.
The spacious lower salon offers a relaxation area and a generous dining space, catering to all your leisurely needs. The yacht's well-appointed galley and crew quarters are strategically placed ahead of the salon, ensuring seamless service.
In the stern, the spacious and sophisticated owners' and guests' quarters provide utmost comfort. A large owner's stateroom and two twin guest cabins each have en-suite bathrooms, promising absolute privacy and luxury.
ITHAKA carries the hallmarks of a true Jongert – reliability, durability and safety, upmost comfort and luxury.
All technical systems, particularly in the engine room, have been thoughtfully installed for easy access and maintenance.
As a testament to Dutch yacht craftsmanship, ITHAKA is the embodiment of maritime excellence, maintained meticulously by her dedicated crew. Enjoyed in private ownership and never chartered, she is in impeccable condition, ready to sail the moment you step aboard.
ITHAKA invites her next discerning family to embark on a journey around the world with unmatched comfort and performance.
