Kapetan Luka

Kapetan Luka

Kapetan Luka operates some of the most popular catamaran routes in Croatia, including the long-distance routes that travel the Dalmatian coast – from Split to Dubrovnik and return – in the summer months.

Kapetan Luka

History of Kapetan Luka

Although established as far back as in 1889, the company operated solely as a cargo operator until establishing passenger services as well in 1973. In 1981, cargo services were dropped and the company focused on transporting passengers. Kapetan Luka obtained its first catamaran ship in 2001, and since 2003 it has two distinct operations – one part being a catamaran operator, and the other a cruise operator.

These days, Kapetan Luka has four vessels that it uses to run its lines. They are:

  • Krilo Star (358 passengers)
  • Krilo Jet (346 passengers)
  • Krilo Carbo (445 passengers)
  • Krilo Carbo (350 passengers)

Kapetan Luka routes

If you’re travelling the Dalmatian coast, you’ll likely find yourself travelling on one of Kapetan Luka’s routes, seeing as they operate some of the most popular services! These are shown below.

Split – Hvar

This route operates three times a day in peak summer season (twice a day just outside of season, and once a day in low season), with a journey time of 50 minutes.

You can of course use one of the below services to also travel on the Split – Hvar route. Alternatively, Jadrolinija also offers some services from Split to the popular Dalmatian island.

Split – Hvar – Korcula

This catamaran operates just once a day, departing Split in the mid-morning and reaching Korcula Town on Korcula just after midday. It takes one hour to reach Hvar Town, and then an additional one hour and 15 minutes to get to Korcula. The reverse journey departs Korcula Town at 1pm, reaching Split in the mid-afternoon.

Split – Hvar – Prigradica (Korcula) – Korcula

A year-round service, this departs Split in the mid-afternoon reaching Korcula Town after 6pm. (It’s 55 minutes from Split to Hvar, and 1 hour 25 minutes to Korcula Town.) The return journey leaves Korcula in the early afternoon, arriving in Split in the mid-afternoon.

During the peak summer months (June to September inclusive), the catamaran also makes a stop at Prigradica on the north of Korcula island. Journey time is 50 minutes from Hvar to Prigradica, and then an additional 40 minutes to travel on to Korcula Town. The Split – Hvar – Prigradica – Korcula service travels in the late afternoon, getting in to Korcula in the early evening. The return journey, however, departs Korcula at 6am!

Split – Milna (Brac) – Hvar – Korcula – Pomena (Mljet) – Dubrovnik

One of the more popular routes – as it’s one of the few longer-range services travelling along the Croatian coast – this operates daily from April to October inclusive. The catamaran departs Split in the early morning, reaching Dubrovnik just after midday. The opposite journey departs Dubrovnik in the late afternoon, getting in to Split just before 9pm. Obviously, you can use the catamaran to make any of the individual ‘hops’ along the way!

This is one of only two routes that connects Hvar Town with Dubrovnik . (The other is operated by Jadrolinija .)

Split – Bol (Brac) – Makarska – Korcula – Sobra (Mljet) – Dubrovnik

The second of Kapetan Luka’s long-range coastal catamaran routes, this one only operates in the peak summer months of June to September, doing so daily. Again, this catamaran route departs Split in the early morning, getting in to Dubrovnik just after midday. The opposite journey also departs Dubrovnik in the late afternoon and again arrives in Split just before 9pm.

This is one of only two routes connecting Bol on the island of Brac with Dubrovnik . (The other is operated by Jadrolinija .)

Tickets for Kapetan Luka catamarans

You can use the search box below to purchase tickets for any of Kapetan Luka’s routes:

You can also look up timetables and book tickets on the Kapetan Luka website.

Alternatively, you can also purchase tickets at the many sales points along the Croatian coast – there is a list on the timetables pages of the website.

It is advisable to pre-book tickets for journeys made in the peak summer months as the above services are very popular and can get sold out.

You can of course find full information on the company on the Kapetan Luka website.

How to Get from Split to Dubrovnik ( & Dubrovnik to Split)

by Jelena | Jan 20, 2022

Dubrovnik

Split to Dubrovnik is arguably the most travelled route in Croatia during the summer months, and it’s really no wonder why. It’s not every day you get to make the trip between two UNESCO-protected coastal towns, and indeed two of Croatia’s most attractive ones.

This popular route surely offers several modes of transportation, but it’s best to leave it up to the experts (well, locals) to help you decide which one works for your next Croatian holiday. Luckily, we are here to break it down for you to make your next Split-Dubrovnik Road trip as painless as possible.

Split Tours by Jelena Vrančić

There is a lot that the comfort of a car can do for you on holiday, and booking a private transfer is often the best decision you’ll make during your travels. Not only is the driving time between Split and Dubrovnik only 3 hours, but private transfers offer you the freedom to sit back, relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings. The drive from Split to Dubrovnik is rated one of Croatia’s most beautiful.

Not to mention that you do not have to worry about being behind the wheel in a foreign country, but you also have the luxury to explore some of the coastal gems between the two cities. Like the Makarska Riviera, offering some of Dalmatia’s best beaches for all ages, or our favourite town on the way to Split – Ston. Located an hour outside of Dubrovnik, Ston is a foolproof stop to break up your trip for many reasons. Whether you want to indulge in the town’s oysters, take a walk around the ‘European Great Wall of China’, or explore the ancient saltworks, the oldest and largest preserved in the Mediterranean, the options are endless. The small town also offers authentic seafood-focused restaurants where you can take your time at the tavern and enjoy the local wine. Speaking of wine – only about 20 minutes away from Ston is Croatia’s famous wine region Pelješac, where you can adventure for a tasting or two (remember, you’re not the one driving).

Wine Cellar Palazzo Vimbula

And if you need to get to Split or Dubrovnik in a hurry or don’t want to wake up at the crack of dawn? You don’t need to take the leisurely route. Instead, travel directly between the two cities. Departing in the morning allows you to comfortably arrive by the early afternoon, check in to your accommodation and even have time for an afternoon walking tour!

Keep in mind: If taking the bus or a private transfer, you’ll need to have your passport handy. The route currently passes through the Neum corridor, which is part of Bosnia & Herzegovina. However, the Pelješac bridge opening in the summer of 2022 will keep your ride within Croatia.

Led by professional chauffeurs and Mercedes vehicles, you can explore our private transfers here .

From Dubrovnik to Split in 4 and a half hours with Krilo

  • News News Brac News Korcula

One of the biggest advantages of the Krilo catamaran line Dubrovnik – Split is no document preparation and border crossing , as is the case in other means of transport.

Sailing from Dubrovnik starts at 4:30 pm every day, and it should be noted that the catamaran stops in Pomena on Mljet , Korčula , Hvar , Milna on Brač and arrives in Split just before 9 pm. The price of a one-way ticket is 240 kuna.

‘I’m fine because I’m home’

Dulist.hr interviewed a cheerful five-member crew of Krilo . Passengers are greeted at the entrance by the likeable Josip Čupić. This deck officer, otherwise from Ploče, has been part of the ‘Krilo’ crew since 2016.

I did one part of the cadetship here, and the other on the long one. I feel good because I am at home and I prefer to work with passengers. I met a lot of people from all over the world. Čupić

He hopes that we might be close to those high numbers of 2019 in the next year already . He adds that this year they have around 15,000 passengers per day , which is incomparably better than last year.

It is convenient to sail with us. The border is avoided, it is a more comfortable way to travel than by bus and car.  In about 15 days we will have a crowd. It turns out, every weekend, that we go slowly towards a larger number. For example, last year only August was good. The season was short. I don’t know what this year will happen, but it should be better than last year, anyway. Čupić

‘We are an old shipping family’

It is a line maintained by the famous shipping company Kapetan Luka , better known as Krilo . Luka Tomić , director of the company based in Krilo Jesenice says that his family has been in shipping for generations. The company dates back to the end of 1889.

We are an old shipping family. We always had some boats, but in 2001 we got involved in working with fast boats and in 2004 we focused exclusively on this segment of tourism. We started our first voyages in 2013. Back then, we only sailed twice a week and as early as the following year, we expanded our driving schedule. In 2014, we ailed throughout the season, then from early May to mid-October, with the exception that we sailed four times a week in the beginning, as well as at the end of the season. In 2015, we started sailing every day throughout the season. Three years before the pandemic, we would start sailing as early as the beginning of April and until the end of October. Tomić

One million and 800 thousand passengers

This year, the company is expected to achieve 55% to 60% from 2019 . Otherwise, on all lines, throughout the year, under normal conditions, they would carry between 650 and 700 thousand passengers.

On the lines to Dubrovnik since 2013, we have transported, on all routes, around one million and 800 thousand passengers. All workers remained in the company throughout the coronavirus period. No one was fired, even though the ships didn’t operate at all for most of the year. We expect a very good next year. We keep our fingers crossed for everyone! Tomić

Thanks for this very well written, clear and helpful information. We were thinking of doing a small ship cruise along the coast but this sounds like a much cheaper option to see the coastline of Croatia. Could you please explain: 1. Is this 45 EUR for a one way or return ticket? 2. Do we have to stay on board for the whole ferry ride or is it possible to get off at different places and get back on a later ferry? Or Get off and stay overnight somewhere, to do sightseeing before continuing the journey the next day? Any other advice you can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much.

As far as I know the ferry ticket is for the day of travel only, and does not allow you to break up the journey. But, ask the company as they may allow it.
