The new design trends shaping superyacht beach clubs

As the focus of life on board moves closer to the water, the beach club is becoming the highlight, learns Claire Wrathall

Given the extent to which the pandemic has altered human behaviour, as we seek to avoid each other, it’s not surprising that yacht owners have sought sanctuary on their boats. “A yacht is the best place to be completely safe,” says Sabrina Monteleone, founder and proprietor of Sabrina Monte-Carlo , the Côte d’Azur’s go-to supplier of deck furniture, furnishings and table settings. “Owners now want to stay alone on their boats; they no longer go out.”

Even last winter in St Barths, nobody was going ashore to actual beaches, according to Monteleone. “No, your own beach club is the place to be now,” she says. “On a big boat, on the first or second deck, you don’t really sense the water. But on the platform, the water is right there; you can really feel the sea. Whenever we do a refit, the owner wants to increase the platform.”

It comes as no surprise, then, that beach clubs have moved on from the time when they were little more than an aft bathing platform shaded by a raised transom door and backed by the toy garage. Now, she says, “they are more like pool houses”, complete with sofas, armchairs and ottomans, adjoining gyms and spas, and perhaps a bar. These days a beach club is somewhere to spend the whole day, returning upstairs only at mealtimes.

Increasingly, too, the platform will be directly connected to the main deck by a staircase . “Because the main deck is becoming the most important area of the boat,” says Francesca Muzio, co-founder of the Ancona-based practice FM Architettura d’Interni , whose recent projects include the spectacular interiors (designed jointly with Nauta Design ) of the aptly named and soon-to-be-launched 88-metre Feadship Zen designed by De Voogt Naval Architects . She has also observed a change in the way yachts are used. Where once the upper deck was the most important area, she continues, the focus of activity “is moving downstairs”, as owners increasingly request inside-outside spaces “like verandas or loggias” on the main deck.

She partly attributes this to a fear of UV rays. “The sun is the enemy these days,” she says. “People no longer want to be exposed to it.” Rather than gigantic sunpads, they want sheltered outdoor seating areas that are palpably close to the water, possibly filled with greenery and furnished with “couches, rugs, lanterns” and lots of tactile textiles. “You can even find velvets and chenilles and other soft materials suitable for an outdoor marine environment now, so you can really dress it like an interior,” she says. “It’s a very Mediterranean concept.”

Colder climates can equally be allowed for. On the recently refitted 72-metre Damen -built explorer yacht Game Changer , which travels far and wide, the beach club has heating so that it can, in principle, function as a place to sit out even when the boat is in Antarctic or Arctic waters.

These spaces can be equipped for entertainment too. Take the beach club on Severin*s , the 55-metre Baglietto -built superyacht designed by Francesco Paszkowski and launched last year. It has not only a steam shower, but also a 4K-resolution LED wall with an area of about six square metres suitable for video art or screening movies or sports. It’s the creation of audiovisual specialist Videoworks, which also put a retractable 55-inch 4K outdoor television with 180-degree rotation on the yacht’s sundeck that can be viewed either from the lounge or the pool, and a 90-inch cinema screen on the upper deck.

Both Monteleone and Muzio also see beach clubs and decks as opportunities to use bolder colour. “There has to be harmony, and it has to blend with the indoor areas,” says Muzio. “But you can have fun outside. I like to add colour with cushions and towels,” adds Monteleone.

On Olivia , a Russian navy hydrographic survey vessel that was converted into a 69-metre explorer yacht , she used a “very cool” palette of grey, yellow and white on the platform. While on Bold , the 85.3-metre Silveryachts -built expedition yacht designed by her husband, Espen Øino , she chose a vibrant vermilion. Check out the curvaceous armchairs (Smile by Paola Lenti) that stand on the beach club, to which an inflatable platform attaches, so that the yacht’s toys are readily to hand. On Cosmos , which Heesen is due to deliver in 2022, the beach club not only contains a sunken bar but also is sited beneath the seven-metre waterfall-fed glass-bottom pool, so it is lit by sunshine refracted through water.

Launched in 2020 and designed by Luca Dini , 49.7-metre Rossinavi -built LEL is another new yacht with an expansive and versatile beach club, a response to her owner’s brief for “generous open spaces to make the most of the open air and water”. Dini’s solution was to create “an actual terrace overlooking the sea, a pied-à-terre dans l’eau, where nature meets technology”. The partially indoor space, separated from the garage by an automatic door, is spacious enough to store the tender. Lower the side and transom doors and open the louvres, however, and, when furnished, it becomes an elegant and airy room complete with a bar that extends out over the water – the perfect setting for waterside living and entertaining.

For as Muzio notes, clients no longer commission projects with instructions to adhere to “a particular style such as art deco or modern”. What matters more, she says, is their “lifestyle”, how they want to live and where they want to spend time – which tends to be within sight of the sea.

Nantucket Yacht Club

Nantucket, massachusetts.

Located in the historic downtown harbor of Nantucket, this 100 year old Nantucket Yacht Club is a place where “traditions are honored and the past is respected.”  To uphold the glory of this notable club, a large-scale renovation project was required.  Working closely with the membership and the town’s Architectural Review Board, MPFA utilized a master plan and phased construction timeline to infuse extensive changes into the existing structure.  From all-encompassing infrastructure retrofits and new support facilities (kitchen and bath) to rehabilitated dining areas and new member spaces, the heart of the design is a renewed facility that maintains the historic nature of traditional Nantucket architecture.

Monaco Yacht Show: 7 Yacht Interiors That Will Steal the Show

Room on yacht with intricate blue stone flooring and walls

Running from September 28 through October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show is the highlight of the global boat show circuit. This year’s edition promises to deliver plenty of buzzy debuts, headline-making yacht news, and high-design highlights. There are several new additions to this year’s event in Port Hercules including a sustainability hub and a gadget- and gizmo-filled adventure area , packed with new water toys and flashy supercars —it is Monaco , after all.

For denizens of design, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub is returning for a second year, with presentations, galleries, and exhibits by yacht architects and designers. But, of course, the big boats steal the show. With yacht interiors that range from the classically nautical to the budget-blowing bonkers, these are the superyachts to have on your radar at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Sitting area inside a yacht

An oversized chandelier defines the space in the informal dining room aboard Ahpo .

Lürssen, Ahpo

All eyes will be on the whopping 377-feet Ahpo , by Lürssen, when it debuts this year at the Monaco Yacht Show as the largest yacht in the port. Venice-based exterior and interior designer Nuvolari Lenard added plenty of personality and luxury to the vessel with oversized crystal light features, a hammam made of mosaics in the massive wellness area, and a grand staircase at the center of the yacht, crafted to resemble an olive tree.

Interiors of main deck lounge on a yacht

Blue accents channel the traditional nautical aesthetic.

Feadship, Rock.It

The 198-foot Rock.It is not short on style: Gleaming wood panels with creamy white leather inlays feature throughout; glowing white onyx contrasts with rich black Portoro marble; and the well-dressed owner’s cabin rivals the top suite of an old-world European hotel with a warm wood study and bathroom with a claw-footed tub. The refined design can be attributed to the Netherlands with Dutch shipyard Feadship behind the build and Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design taking on the interiors.

Bar and seating area on a yacht

Modern and laid-back, Come Together is effortlessly cool.

Amels, Come Together

Built in the Netherlands by Amels with interiors by London-based Winch Design, the 197-foot Come Together has soft and laid-back beach-y vibes with a dose of Southern California cool. Elements like bleached oaks, woven linen fabrics, cabinetry with natural coconut shell, and hair-on-hide leathers all unite to bring the natural world aboard this chic ship.

Stairs leading down to a seating area on a yacht

Crisp and clean, the interiors of Be Cool are to-the-point in a refreshing way.

Swan 98, Be Cool

There’s a fleet of around a dozen large sailing yachts on display at this year’s yacht show in the dedicated Sailing Yacht Area. One of the most notable new launches of the bunch is Swan 98 Be Cool  by Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan. The clean and crisp interior hull design by Genovese architect Misa Poggi embraces graceful nautical style and Scandinavian practicality with navy linen and cotton fabrics, dark oak, and handsome tobacco-hued leather.

This Cozy Connecticut Farmhouse Ups the Ante on Countryside Living

Kokomo ’s interiors will speak to the minimalist.

Sunreef, Kokomo

Packed with cutting-edge green tech and ultralight solar panels, Sunreef’s newest catamaran  Eco 80 will be making waves at this year’s show. However, it’s the interiors of the 80-foot Kokomo (done in-house by Sunreef) that will impress the design lovers. Outfitted in cool and calm shades of white with rattan finishes and eucalyptus veneers, Kokomo is both on-trend and a complete classic.

Seating room with glassbottomed pool above it.

The glass-bottom pool is a highlight of the yacht.

Abeking & Rasmussen, B2

One of the largest vessels currently on the market, the 281-foot B2 by German yard Abeking & Rasmussen, will be showing off an ultra-chic over-$4-million interior refit just completed in July at this year’s show. Sprawling out over five decks, Winch Design has curated a serene floating sanctuary of indoor-outdoor living, the highlight of which is the main deck’s glass-bottom pool, stationed above the light-filled beach club lounge with fold-down balconies that extend the living space right to the water’s edge.

Seating area on a yacht

With dark wood, tubular steel accents, and black furnishings, the interiors of State of Grace could be described as a nautical take on the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Perini Navi, State of Grace

State of Grace by Italy’s Perini Navi is a gorgeous high-performance sailing sloop. It’s picture-perfect with polished teak decks, an ocean-blue hull, and billowing white sails. Inside is a study in midcentury-modern elegance with a split-level saloon and a spacious and full-beam owner’s suite with a hammam shower.

Yacht Interior Design Trends: Luxury Living on Board

Michael Castorino Articles

Luxury yachts are highly customized, high-end vessels designed for the ultimate in comfort, style, and functionality. If you have the opportunity to customize every aspect of your vessel’s interior and exterior,  you’d want your yacht to look like an expression and extension of you.

Fortunately, the world of luxury yachts is continually evolving, with designers and builders pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of design, technology, and comfort. Yacht interior design trends often mirror broader interior design trends. Still, they also have their own unique characteristics and considerations due to the limited space and specific needs of yacht living.

Timeless Interior Design Trends for Luxury Yachts

If you just got yourself a new vessel or are planning to revamp the interior of your old one, here are some interior design trends to keep in mind:

  • Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living: The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is a telltale sign of luxury yachts. Foldable or retractable glass doors, outdoor lounges, and dining areas create a fluid connection to the sea and surrounding nature.
  • Open and Airy Layouts: To create a sense of space and connection to the surrounding ocean, open and airy layouts with large windows and open-plan designs are largely favored in luxury yachts. These layouts maximize natural light and panoramic views, allowing you to make the best of your cruise.
  • Timeless Elegance: Classic, timeless design elements such as rich woods, marble surfaces, and luxurious fabrics continue to be popular choices for luxury yacht interiors. These materials exude opulence and never go out of style.
  • Customization: Personalization is key in luxury yacht interior design. Yacht owners often work closely with interior designers to create bespoke furnishings, fixtures, and decorative elements that reflect their unique tastes and preferences.
  • Innovative Technology: State-of-the-art technology is a must in luxury yacht interiors. Smart lighting, audiovisual systems, climate control, and security features can be seamlessly integrated into the design for convenience and luxury.
  • Artistic Expression: Yacht owners often use their vessels as a canvas for artistic expression. This can include commissioned artwork, sculptures, and unique decor pieces that reflect the owner’s personality. Including an art piece or a custom-made painting is a good way to make your interior stand out.
  • Innovative Lighting: LED lighting continues to be a popular choice for its energy efficiency and versatility. Lighting design can create different moods and atmospheres throughout the yacht. This is a good option at your disposal when you want the interior to match your moment, whether it’s a party or if you just want to relax.
  • Spa-Like Bathrooms: Bathrooms on luxury yachts are designed to resemble spa retreats. Features like Jacuzzi tubs, steam showers, and high-end fixtures offer a sense of indulgence. If you’d like to treat yourself to a soothing bath when you are relaxing on a distant shore, this is a good way to go.
  • Wellness Spaces: Wellness is a growing trend in luxury yacht design. Some yachts feature onboard gyms, and spa areas with massage rooms, saunas, and even yoga studios to promote relaxation and well-being .
  • Nautical Themes: Some luxury yacht owners opt for nautical-themed interiors, incorporating elements like porthole windows, rope accents, and marine-inspired color palettes for a classic maritime ambiance.

Superyacht Interiors: The Top Luxury Designs

Free eBooks

Everyone knows that a yacht or superyacht is nothing without a luxury interior. Indeed, there’s now a whole range of interior designers who either specialize in or regularly create yacht interiors. So, how do you find the best projects? Here at Insplosion, we want to help. That’s why we’ve gathered a list of our top luxury superyacht interiors !

Yacht fans may also like: Sabrina Monte-Carlo: Famous Interior Designers of Monaco

Brigadoon | studio indigo.

Including the Brigadoon in this list is pretty mandatory. After all, this luxury yacht by Studio Indigo is an actual winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2019! Thus, this project is all about the grand but understated mid-century luxury decor. The flowers, the wood, and navy-colored details combine to make this into a pretty classic luxury boat interior. Indeed, it’s the beautiful and neutral harmony that truly takes this project to the next level.

Besides, it’s quite a practical design. As you can see, the bedrooms and closets are amazingly organized. It’s all about luxury, yes, but also about comfort and practicality. The high seas are no place for clutter, which can cause accidents in bad weather.

But, in contrast with the brown color palette, you have this lovely deck area. With its slightly japandi style influences, this is the perfect place to relax in at the end of a long day.

Aurora Borealis | Winch Design

The Aurora Borealis does justice to its namesake. Indeed, it is as white and bright of an interior as the aurora itself. However, there are all sorts of little decor elements which are reminiscent of the sea. Just notice the shell-shaped ashtray and sea-horse patterns on some of the pillows! Finally, the mid-century lighting really adds a nice touch to the ambiance.

But there’s much more to admire. How do you like the lovely art deco bar? The lines themselves almost remind you of corals and shells. And the airy, light decor is just as present in the dining and living areas. While just as luxurious, this interior is much different from the Brigadoon’s.

Finally, we’ll leave you with this gorgeous view of the yacht’s deck at night. Once again, the seatings and patterns are chosen to be evocative of the ocean. It’s as gorgeous of a yacht design as you could ask for.

Superyacht Forever | St. Corona Interiors

If you’re looking for something equally light, but much more sober, look no further than Superyacht Forever . This creation by St. Corona Interiors also follows a white color scheme, but the decor elements aren’t quite as feminine. There’s not as much art deco influence here. The lines are much cleaner and simpler, almost minimalist compared to the glamour of the previous project.

Office Ideas

Modern Life Requires Modern Offices

The bar and living room area follow more or less the same route. Indeed, they favor light color schemes and clean, shapely lines. It’s all about practical luxury, functional without being quite minimalist.

Finally, we have the bedroom. While not opulent in the slightest, this room has the same sort of stylish beauty as the rest of the interior. Once again: you don’t want clutter on the high seas!

Logica | Martin Kemp Design

At last, we reach the Logica .  This project for a luxury yacht by Marin Kemp Design is everything our interior decor dreams are made of. Like the Aurora, it takes a much more art deco approach to superyacht interiors. The little metal details are just what we like to call luxury hardware!

The bedroom and living space designs follow very similar color schemes and strategies. Since you can’t have any clutter, it’s all about denoting luxury through the tiniest details.

Finally, you have the bathroom project, which is as light and gorgeous as the rest of the design. It’s a luxury bathroom through and through.

So, which of these superyacht interiors did you prefer?

INSPIRE’s design is a dedicated mix of high-tech and natural materials and shapes, in an arrangement of subdued simplicity and spacious monumentality. This allows the mind to roam free and be inspired by the yacht’s intricate detailing, from the smallest doorhandle to the largest architectural element.

Sander J. Sinot

The power of inspiration.

The superyacht INSPIRE paves the way for inspiration. Designer Sander Sinot: “The marine environment has always inspired mankind; by its visual splendour of surging waves and endless skies, as well as its sense of wonder, tales of exploration and legendary voyages. INSPIRE builds on that legacy by providing unprecedented openness between the inside and out, vast exterior decks, and features such as a blue hole swimming pool and submersible Nemo room.”

Furthermore, INSPIRE offers spacious social meeting spaces and a theatre for inspirational events, where the owner, guests, and invitees from all over the world can meet, socialize, exchange ideas, and plan the future, inspired by the seascapes surrounding them. Sander Sinot: “We hope our holistic approach towards yachting will INSPIRE owners, prospects, and industry. Just about anything is possible when you experience the Power of Inspiration.”

Architectural statement

138m of exceptional design.

INSPIRE’s exterior is created using bold architectural lines combined with a pronounced flare-to-tumble shape from bow to stern. Together these create a three-dimensional statement of elegant curves and solid sturdiness. The light blue-green shade of the hull color enables the yacht to blend naturally with the seas and skies. This effect is strengthened by the expansive windows, floor-to-ceiling glass façades, multiple hatches, al-fresco lounges and shaded exterior decks.

INSPIRE’s 138-meters LOA platform consists of six decks: a top deck dedicated to the owner, an upper deck with large guest lounge and wheelhouse, a main deck with guest cabins and al-fresco restaurant, a beach deck with VIP cabins, wellness, beach lounge with blue hole pool as well as generous spaces for inspirational events. A submersible observation room to experience an uninterrupted view of the sea below is located at the lowest deck.

Beach Lounge

Blue hole indulgence.

INSPIRE’s beach lounge is a finely detailed and meticulously crafted multi-purpose space for sunbathing or enjoying watersports from the beach platform, or to gather for al-fresco lounging and a dip in the pool. Two floor-to-ceiling hatches on the starboard and portside fold down to enlarge the space to a level-floored 538m2. The interior ceiling height of 3,8-meters guarantees full appreciation of the sea when the hatches are open, merging ocean views with the interior space.

The central focal point of INSPIRE’s beach lounge is the stunning blue hole swimming pool. The pool has a diameter of 10-meters with rock formations at the edge, vividly colored Raku-ceramic pool tiles, and a full glass bottom providing breathtaking views of the underwater world. The beach lounge is accessible direct from the water with a magnificent stone-walled passage into the forward wellness center, VIP cabins, central lobby, and inspirational theatre.

Wellness Centre

Tranquil serenity.

INSPIRE’s health and wellness center with its sauna, hammam, massage, treatment, and gym, is a shrouded world of tranquil serenity, where the subdued lighting and elementary design creates an intimate environment. Entering this area is a transition from the overtly vastness of the seas and skies experienced at the beach lounge to a mindful atmosphere of care, relaxation, and revitalizing, where well-being, joy, and fun merge into a dream-like experience.

The environment created by the highly detailed design style of INSPIRE provides ultimate comfort for both body and soul. Indirect light and pencil-beam spotlights deliver a setting that can be adjusted to the mood of the day. This sense of harmony is reinforced using sculptural natural stone and glass with carefully designed textures, skillfully treated timber, and meticulously sourced materials to create a natural atmosphere that is far-removed from a hectic day-to-day life.

Central Lobby

Seamless services.

INSPIRE’s midships-located central lobby contains an impressive central circular staircase with an integrated elevator at its core connecting the beach deck, main deck, upper deck, and top deck. With its sculptural design, the stairs appear to float freely in space, creating an impression of weightlessness. This dramatic gesture is strengthened by the two-deck high monumental vide on the portside, with a height of 6,3-meters, where the stairs can be seen to ascend over two decks.

The central lobby provides services to the inspirational theatre, which is accessed by the monumental sculpted bronze door with azure glass inserts at the forward wall. When events are held this connection is opened and the central lobby serves to host smaller group sessions at a lounge setting or connects to meeting rooms on the beach or main deck, or it can accommodate hospitality such as a buffet with delicious snacks and drinks. The full-height windows over two decks provide inspiration, offering endless vistas on both seascape and skies.

Inspirational playground

On the bridge deck a vast 460m2 exterior deck surrounds the pavilion to fully enjoy views of the sea. Inside, a lounge, dining, library, and semi-open wheelhouse are integrated in one free-flowing space of almost 200m2. When ascending the grand circular staircase, the oculus in the central lobby lights the route towards the aft lounge, where a seating arrangement of comfortable sofas is situated. The open connection to the aft and side deck exteriors makes dining and lounging a true al-fresco experience.

The spectacular semi-open wheelhouse’s seating arrangement allows the captain, owner, and travel companions to plan voyages at a large, custom-built round table. The wheelhouse, which encompasses all the latest technologies for the wheelhouse of the future, can be separated from the lounge by closing the sliding doors. The area, crucial for the crew and captain to provide a memorable passage, has been designed for optimal operation with efficient space distribution.

Delights of hospitality

Open sesame at sea.

Located on INSPIRE’s beach deck close to the waterline, the two generously sized VIP state rooms stand out thanks to their spacious design which includes a double bathroom and dressing area. The main and most attention-grabbing feature in these state rooms is a giant hatch opposite the bed that can be folded down in calm waters. When folded down, this distinctive hatch provides VIP guests with an extended balcony with uninterrupted views and close vicinity to the water providing a stunning environment in which to enjoy their time on board.

The VIP suites onboard INSPIRE have a focus on openness and natural comfort, providing a maximum sense of freedom in a highly detailed design style setting. Textured carpets made of reclaimed material, fully customized and crafted furniture in sustainable woods and the use of natural fabric textures in wall and ceiling panelling all create an atmosphere of harmonious serenity. Further personalization of the VIP state rooms’ interiors ensures the design is aesthetically balanced with timeless appeal.

Guest Cabins

Intimate comfort.

Eight spacious and comfortable guest cabins are located forward on the main deck of INSPIRE. All the cabins have a built-in window seat positioned in the elegant windows, delivering an infinite connection with the surrounding seascape. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom featuring a wall-to-wall window above the natural stone bathtub, a floating vanity and separate shower and toilet rooms with natural stone walls and floors. All the features in the guest cabins consist of custom-designed pieces, hand-crafted from durable and natural materials.

Inside the guest spaces, every detail of the design has been examined, with meticulous attention devoted to form, material selection, finishes and functionality. The selection of natural stones and hand-picked timbers allows for further personalization of INSPIRE’s interior, ensuring the design is aesthetically balanced with inherent appeal. The result is an atmosphere of pleasing intimacy and mindful hospitality.

Owner’s State Room

Top deck quarters.

The Owner’s state room is located on the top deck of INSPIRE and offers a vast 250m2 of owner living space including a bathroom, dressing area, and adjacent massage, self-service pantry, and lounge. A key point is privacy, with the owner and his or her loved ones having the deck to themselves. Expansive full-length windows create an impression of vast openness and freedom. The open plan arrangement with its full-length passages at the interior side of the portside and starboard glass façades in combination with the glass bulwark, provides a seamless transition from outside to in.

The bedroom is located forward and offers unhindered views and an endless sightline over the bow of INSPIRE. The bathroom and dressing rooms are integrated into the space with an almost beam-wide floating vanity unit and lavishly decorated artisanal cabinet doors in both dressing rooms. On the exterior deck in the front, the seating arrangement is ideal for an intimate breakfast or lunch or for a relaxing area to read while taking in the extensive views.

Owner’s Lounge

Ultimate views.

INSPIRE’s Owner’s lounge is located at the aft of the top ¬deck and enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glass façades with an inserted glass wintergarden. A dining table can be used for an al-fresco breakfast, lunch or a private dinner and luxurious, custom designed lounge furniture provides an environment for socializing or relaxing, combining ultimate style with fine detailing and rich fabrics. Access to the Owner’s state room and central staircase is via an open plan arrangement with full length passages on the interior side of the port and starboard façades.

The vast 500m2 exterior deck space surrounding INSPIRE’s upper deck Owner’s state room and the Owner’s lounge is ideal for appreciating the boundless sea views. This exterior deck is perfectly designed for a light morning workout, yoga, or Pilates or for a brief walk to take in the freshness of the morning. The sense of harmony is reinforced by awe-inspiring views over the ocean; scenery that can be enjoyed throughout the Owner’s lounge and Owner’s state room.

Upper Deck Lounge

Social space.

The main lounge is located at the aft of the upper deck. The forward section of the lounge is geared towards intimate relaxation, with an integrated fireplace to warm hands, hearts, and souls on chilly evenings. The fireplace is incorporated into a feature wall of patinated bronze and is flanked by two art pieces combining organic and geometrical structures. The aft section features a floor-to-ceiling LED screen that can be either concealed in the free-standing wall elements or revealed to create a cinema-setting when desired.

The vast lounge area, which including all the exterior upper deck space measures 379m2, provides ample expanse for not only the onboard guests, but also for larger groups of visitors invited from the shore, perhaps from other yachts or helicoptered-in. It is a unique social space to utilize in conjunction with the restaurant and the theatre, for meeting, exchanging ideas, deepening discussions, and generally having fun.

Plotting the next leg

INSPIRE’s full-beam transparent wheelhouse has a generous seating arrangement for all who want be part of the yacht’s operation and provides a stunning working environment for the captain, first officer and crew. A free-standing chart table offers abundant space to plot the next leg of the journey. The wheelhouse is designed as the wheelhouse of the future encompassing the latest technologies and planned for optimal operation with efficient space distribution.

The full-height windows with sliding doors at the sides, cater for ultimate clarity and sight onto INSPIRE’s surrounding nautical environment. At the back of the wheelhouse there is wall cabinetry crafted from sustainable woods and natural fibre textiles creating an atmosphere of tranquil serenity. Further personalization of the wheelhouse interior ensures the design is aesthetically balanced and ergonomically flawless, resulting in a bridge of timeless quality.

Under the sea

At the yacht’s lowest level, approximately 5-meters below the sea’s surface, a most impressive feature awaits those who have been intrigued and inspired by the depths of the ocean while looking into the blue hole at INSPIRE’s beach deck pool. The spectacular submersible Nemo observation room is accessed from the Nemo deck, from where it is lowered below the yacht’s keel when INSPIRE is safely at anchor or stabilized by dynamic positioning.

The Art of Interior Design in Yachts: Exploring the world of luxury yacht interiors and the creative process behind designing them.

Step aboard and immerse yourself in the opulent world of luxury yacht interiors! From sleek modern designs to timeless elegance, the art of interior design in yachts is a captivating blend of style, functionality, and creativity. Join us on a journey as we explore the top trends, layout tips, material choices, furnishing styles, and clever storage solutions that make these floating palaces truly spectacular. Get ready to be inspired by the beauty and innovation behind crafting the perfect yacht interior!

Top trends in luxury yacht interior design

Luxury yacht interior design is constantly evolving, embracing new trends to create stunning and functional spaces that cater to the desires of discerning clients. One notable trend in yacht interiors is the use of sustainable materials, reflecting a growing awareness of environmental responsibility within the industry. Another popular trend is the incorporation of smart technology, seamlessly integrating features like automated lighting and climate control for enhanced comfort and convenience.

In terms of aesthetics, contemporary minimalism continues to be a favored style among yacht owners, with clean lines and neutral color palettes creating a sense of calm sophistication. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s also a resurgence of classic glamour in yacht design, with luxurious fabrics, ornate details, and rich textures evoking a sense of timeless elegance on board.

From innovative layouts to cutting-edge decor elements, staying ahead of these top trends ensures that luxury yacht interiors remain at the pinnacle of sophistication and style.

Material and design choices for yacht interiors

Choosing the right materials and designs for yacht interiors is crucial in creating a luxurious and stylish space that reflects your personal taste and lifestyle. From opulent marble countertops to sleek stainless steel fixtures, every detail contributes to the overall aesthetic of your yacht’s interior.

When it comes to materials, consider durable yet elegant options like teak wood flooring or leather upholstery for a timeless look. Incorporating high-quality fabrics and finishes will not only enhance the visual appeal but also ensure longevity in a marine environment.

In terms of design choices, think about maximizing natural light with large windows or incorporating innovative lighting solutions for ambiance. Selecting a color palette that complements the ocean views can create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Whether you prefer modern minimalism or classic elegance, the key is to balance functionality with aesthetics to achieve an inviting and sophisticated yacht interior that suits your unique style preferences.

Popular interior styles for yacht furnishing

When it comes to interior styles for yacht furnishing, there are a few popular options that exude luxury and sophistication. One classic style is the nautical theme, featuring navy blues, whites, and touches of gold or brass accents to create a timeless maritime ambiance.

For those seeking a more modern look, contemporary design with clean lines and neutral colors like grey or beige can provide a sleek and elegant aesthetic onboard. Incorporating state-of-the-art technology seamlessly into the design can elevate the overall experience.

Alternatively, an eclectic style mixing different textures, patterns, and colors can add personality and vibrancy to the space. Think bold artwork pieces paired with plush velvet furnishings for a stylish yet cozy atmosphere that feels like home away from home on the open seas.

No matter which style you choose for your yacht furnishing, creating a harmonious blend of comfort, functionality, and aesthetics is key to achieving a truly luxurious onboard experience.

How to design the perfect layout for your yacht

Designing the perfect layout for your luxury yacht is a crucial step in creating a comfortable and functional space that reflects your personal style. Start by considering the flow of the space – ensure there is enough room to move around freely without feeling cramped.

Think about the purpose of each area on the yacht – from dining and lounging to sleeping quarters and entertainment spaces. Each area should serve its own unique function while seamlessly connecting with the rest of the layout.

Utilize natural light to create an open and airy feel onboard. Large windows, skylights, or even glass floors can bring in plenty of sunlight and offer stunning views of the surrounding waters.

Consider incorporating versatile furniture pieces that can easily transform to suit different needs throughout the day. Opt for sleek designs that maximize space without compromising on style.

Lastly, don’t forget about outdoor areas! Designing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces will enhance your overall yachting experience as you enjoy breathtaking sunsets or dine al fresco under the stars.

Clever storage solutions for yachts

When it comes to designing the interior of a luxury yacht, clever storage solutions are key. With limited space on board, maximizing every inch is essential for both functionality and aesthetics.

One smart storage solution often seen in yachts is utilizing hidden compartments beneath seating areas or within walls. This not only saves space but also maintains a clean and uncluttered look throughout the yacht.

Another popular option is incorporating multi-functional furniture pieces that serve dual purposes, such as a coffee table with built-in storage or a bed frame with drawers underneath. These innovative designs help minimize clutter while adding practicality to the living spaces.

Vertical storage solutions like tall cabinets or shelving units can also make use of otherwise wasted space, providing ample room for storing belongings without sacrificing floor space.

Overall, integrating these clever storage solutions into the design of a yacht ensures that everything has its place, creating a harmonious and organized environment for passengers to enjoy their time at sea.

Luxury yacht interior design is truly an art form that combines creativity, functionality, and elegance. From incorporating the latest trends to selecting the perfect materials and styles, designing the interior of a yacht requires careful planning and attention to detail.

By following top trends in luxury yacht interior design, creating a layout that maximizes space, choosing high-quality materials and stylish designs, as well as implementing clever storage solutions, you can transform your yacht into a luxurious floating oasis.

Whether you prefer a modern minimalist look or a classic nautical style, there are endless possibilities when it comes to designing your yacht’s interior. So let your imagination run wild and create a space that reflects your personal taste and lifestyle while enjoying the ultimate luxury on the open seas.

yacht club interior design

Corinthian Yacht Club

Marblehead, massachusetts.

  • Institutional
  • Hospitality

Corinthian Yacht Club has been a fixture on the Marblehead coastline for more than a century. The club came to SV Design with a plan to add a new bar to the existing dining room and enhance the social experience for its members. Inspired by its coastal location, the space recalls the feeling of a sailboat, from the ceiling design to the curved wood panels of mahogany and maple. New lighting accentuates the millwork as well as the design of the bar. Blending seamlessly with the outdoor environment, the bar features a 12-foot-long Nanawall window that opens to the exterior deck area, inviting sea breezes and a spectacular view. The new bar expands the club use, as members gather to enjoy the best views in Marblehead.

The club’s expansive deck, which hosts a myriad of events, also required structural updates after weathering too many harsh coastal seasons. Working closely with the client, we vetted numerous ideas and design iterations, finalizing a plan to safely rebuild the deck at the existing finish floor level. The design included removing the flat, low ceiling for a more capacious cathedral ceiling at the roofed porch; adding a water management system under the deck, as well as stainless steel guard rail system for safety as well as architectural interest; and new handrails and lighting throughout.

The Corinthian Yacht Club has long standing traditions. Throughout the project our challenge was to respect the past while re-engaging with the future. We updated the traditional trophy room to appeal to a younger membership while honoring and respecting the traditions of the club and its yachting history. The architecture of the room was maintained intact – the century old wood walls and floors, the wood burning fireplace nook, and the oak display cases.

The layout of the room was reconfigured to allow for multiple social groupings with flexibility to expand and contract based on the size of the gathering. Oriented towards the views, we preserved the built in benches, but made them more user friendly and private by adding free standing benches with upholstered seats and backs.

The traditional nature of the room was emphasized by the use of oriental rugs in patterns and colors. New furniture was installed that is more comfortable, encouraging social interactions. The historic memorabilia was returned to the finished space, including photos of the commodores, silver trophies, ship models, and burgees hanging from the rafters.

This lakeside home mixes yacht club style and cottage charm to great effect

Designer Tom Stringer took the helm for this lakeside home's renovation, adding style by the boatload

living room with view of lake and curved white sofa and blue chairs

This craftsman shingle style summer home was built in the mid-1980s on the shore of Walloon Lake, Michigan. Its owners, who also own the house next door, bought it for their grown-up children and their partners to share.

Following a recent redesign, this weekend and vacation retreat now has gorgeous coastal decor interiors to match its stunning location. We caught up with Tom Stringer , the interior designer responsible for the redesign, to ask how he came up with the new look, which he describes as classic midwestern cottage style.

'The house sits directly at the water’s edge and features dockage for the client’s boats, so we alit on a yacht club theme,' says Stringer. 'The color scheme of reds, blues, whites and yellows, is drawn from the colors of nautical signal flags, Our intent was to nod toward classic yacht club style without delving too far into nautical clichés.'

kitchen with blue units and island with upholstered bar stools and three glass pendants

'When the owners purchased the property, the existing finishes were dated and formal,' explains designer Tom Stringer. 'We updated the kitchen and cook’s pantry and added bead-boarded ceilings and wide plank walnut floors for a more classic feeling.' Kitchen ideas include blue cabinetry, soft gray worktops and a tiled backsplash, all referencing the cooler tones of the nautical palette, while upholstered bar stools introduce the weathered shade of red that will be subtly repeated in the other main spaces in the home.

open plan dining space and living room with sloped roof and blue grand piano and fireplace

'The great room is an easy favorite,' says designer Tom Stringer of the home's open-plan living-dining room. 'It has a great view of the water and features our bespoke semi-circular sofa with a wood paneled outside back that makes it vaguely resemble a settee on the aft deck of a fantail stern yacht. The room also features a grand piano that came with the house. We lightened it’s heart with a fresh marine blue lacquer.'

dining room with blue rug and white walls wooden table cane chairs and model yachts

The dining area features two vintage pond yachts displayed 'yacht club style' in glass cases atop a pair of ebonite campaign chests. And one of the designer's inspired  dining room ideas was to include an antique walnut dining table, which has great patina so no one's worrying about new scratches and dents.

living room with curved white sofa round table and view of the lake

Living room ideas combine vintage and upcycled pieces together with some smart new bespoke elements to create a comfortable and welcoming feel in this unique room overlooking a terrace and the water. A pair of bobbin chairs flank the stone fireplace and a round cocktail table that came with the house was repurposed with the same blue matte lacquer finish as on the grand piano.

bedroom with terrace and lakeside view and blue bedding

The primary bedroom has its own terrace on the water and features a white painted four poster bed. Yellow and white linen curtains frame the view. Bedroom ideas for this space are all about maximizing the view, and echoing the calming blues of the watery landscape outside.

black twin beds with black and white check bedding and white painted paneled walls

The new bunk room was added to the house as part of the renovations. This ground-floor space includes three queen beds with vintage-style spindle bed frames and simple cottage-style bed linen. Wainscoting to the walls continues the nautical theme, while the colors echo those used in the rest of the house.

bathroom with blue and white tiles and freestanding bath with double vanity unit

The primary bathroom features all new finishes. The freestanding tub replaces a dated built-in whirlpool tub. Bathroom ideas that work well here to give a fresh look include the wide plank walnut flooring, double vanity, and wall-to-ceiling tiling.

exterior of lakeside home with white pillars and external steps

Built right on the shore of  Walloon Lake and with its own jetty, the craftsman shingle style home has been refreshed and redesigned in a year-long renovation project to bring it right up to date while still referencing the area's sailing history.

Spanning some six decks, Inspire can comfortably accommodate 22 guests and 52 crew. The top deck is dedicated entirely to the owner and offers nearly 3,000 square feet of living space. The private oasis includes a giant primary suite, a lavish en suite with a full-beam vanity, two dressing rooms, a glass-enclosed lounge with a winter garden, and an outdoor terrace that is perfect for morning yoga. Friends and family sleep below, with eight spacious guest cabins on the main deck and two upscale VIP suites on the beach deck. The VIPs are both fitted with fold-out balconies, so guests too can partake in yoga.

At the heart of the interior lies an elegant lobby with a sculptural staircase that leads to all levels. The lobby doubles as a gathering space for the nearby theatre, which houses a stage, a full-beam screen, and seats for up to 40 guests.

One deck up lies a circular restaurant that can satiate the owner and their guests at any given moment. The tables can be arranged for intimate gatherings or large soirees alike. The exterior deck on this level is outfitted for alfresco dining, with loungers surrounding an oculus that affords spectacular views of all below.

Heading back downstairs, guests will find an epic beach deck with a fully equipped wellness center, a beach lounge, and a swim platform. The real pièce de résistance of this deck is the otherworldly “blue-hole swimming pool.” Surrounded by rugged rock formations, this glass-bottomed wonder provides breathtaking vistas of the ocean.

Another highlight is the Nemo lounge on the lower deck. Located approximately 16 feet below the water’s edge, the observation room allows seafarers to fully appreciate marine wonders without getting their hair wet.

“The marine environment has always inspired mankind; by its visual splendor of surging waves and endless skies, as well as its sense of wonder, tales of exploration, and legendary voyages,” designer Sander Sinot said in a statement. “Inspire builds on that legacy by providing unprecedented openness between the inside and out, vast exterior decks, and features such as a blue hole swimming pool and submersible Nemo room.”

Sinot says Inspire is “ready to be built,” the team just needs to land a buyer.

The GX42 is the newest brand to break into the superyacht category, launched at this year's Monaco ... [+] Yacht Show. This is the Coupé version, featuring a roof covered in gleaming solar panels that slide apart to reveal a sunning and Jacuzzi area.

The unveiling of a new superyacht brand doesn't come along very often, but when it does it is big news, particularly when it is on a global stage like the Monaco Yacht Show. The new superyacht brand, GX Superyachts , is the "brainchild" of the principals of Greenline Yachts , known for production of efficient hybrid yachts up to 58 feet. Greenline, headquartered in Begunje, Slovenia, began building yachts over 15 years ago, employing smart hull design, solar charging, and hybrid propulsion.

About The Yachts

GX Superyachts offers a custom lineup of yachts ranging from 78-164 feet (24-56 meters) constructed of aluminum, with priorities on quality, innovation, and respect for the planet. The yachts will also pay homage to sustainable but distinctive designs with high levels of luxury. The yachts will fully embrace Greenline's commitment to responsible yachting, aiming to set new standards for environmental performance.

The GX Superyacht, a brand new marque in the superyacht sector, is a product line of Greenline ... [+] Yachts. Two versions of the GX 42 both offer a large beach club with fold out wings and hydraulic step.

Greenline yard owner Vladimir Zinchenko explains, "Our journey started with Greenline Yachts, where we pioneered the world's first serial production hybrid yacht over 10 meters back in 2008," continuing, "With more than 1,000 yachts delivered globally, Greenline has been at the forefront of innovation in the boating industry. Through that time, we have tried to further our vision of responsible yachting — from sourcing raw materials right through to the operation of the yacht itself."

Andrea Armas To Act As Consultant To Board

With 28 years of experience as an owner's representative working with major international shipyards, Andreas Armas has earned a post as consultant to the Board of Directors at GX Superyachts. A naval architect and marine engineer, Arnas specializes in yachtbuilding supervision for experienced and discerning owners.

Arnas noted, "I am backing GX Superyachts because I admire their ambition and vision. My goal is to help the team translate their decade-long experience in hybrid recreational boat building into the highly regulated superyacht sector."

At the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, a 32-foot (9.9-meter) all electric Greenline yacht found His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, known for his keen appreciation of environmental practices, requesting an escort to the Monaco Yacht Club in the boat. That scenario sparked the idea to expand the Greenline models to include superyachts. The result brought GX Superyachts to fruition at this year's 2024 show.

Sustainable Capabilities And Solid Range

"Each yacht in our GX Superyacht range is equipped with our innovative hybrid propulsion system, allowing for both efficient electric cruising and powerful diesel performance when needed," Luca Raumland, Chief Commercial Officer, commented. He further stated that at 6 knots in electric mode, these yachts have a 100 nautical mile range, extending to 11,571 nautical miles at 6 knots. The yachts can make trans-Atlantic crossings at 12 knots.

Comparisons to conventional yachts show that the GX range will emit less than 40 percent in comparable carbon emissions. Designed with a large solar array and lithium battery bank, the yacht can sit silently at anchor for over 48 hours, running full hotel systems including air conditioning without requiring help from a generator. That also translates to noiseless, vibration-free, odor-free operation that finds increasing appeal with superyacht owners.

The GX RPH flybridge is the latest marque to enter the superyacht scene, with brand launch recently ... [+] at the Monaco Yacht Show.

GX42 In Build

Already well underway with the keel laying ceremony on June 1, 2024, the first GX 42 will go to a customer that came through the Greenline network. Specializing in composite construction up to 78 feet (24 meters) in the Slovenian shipyard, the GX team needed to select a new build partner experienced in building larger aluminum yachts. They signed with SES Yachts in Tuzla, Türkiye, a custom aluminum yacht expert.

According to Elif Yildirim, Managing Partner of SES, "We embrace custom and semi-custom projects, and the new GX Superyachts range plays perfectly to the skills we have in house." Yildirim also emphasized the importance of being a family-owned business focused on sustainability, acknowledging that collaboration has been very smooth on this first build, looking toward a future with GX and many more yachts.

The Importance of Design

The GX Superyachts GX42 RPH has an expansive aft beach club deck, designed by Marco Casali of Too ... [+] Design.

Described as "achingly sleek exterior lines," the GX Superyachts sport lines from Marco Casali, displaying an efficient, low-profile superstructure allowing large interior volume. Two variations of the model, the Coupé and the RPH, are available.

The Coupé sports a long, curved superstructure. The roof is covered in gleaming solar panels which slide apart to reveal a hidden sun deck with jacuzzi and bar. The RPH version is designed with a large flybridge in clean, modern aesthetics, with 353 GT volume. Both versions offer guests an expansive beach club with fold-down wings and hydraulic step platform.

For the interiors, Casali continues the chic simplicity of the exteriors, styling the first GX42 with impressive bath fixtures from Antonio Lupi and porcelainware from Dornbracht. Loose furnishings from Poltrona Frau and Rugiano are complemented by Foglizzo leathers and Cadorin natural wood flooring.

Casali, founder of Too Design, commented, "Our studio has long worked with Greenline Yachts, so we understood exactly what the new GX Superyachts brief required. "I am proud of the way we have reinterpreted the timeless looks of the smaller yachts to give soul and purpose to the lines of the new superyachts."

The latest superyacht brand, GX Superyachts, will be built in two versions: a Coupé and an RPH. Both ... [+] will be sustainable, have long range, and enjoy suitable luxury superyacht amenities.

Technical Talent

Underwater hull lines maximizing stability and speed potential from Francesco Rogantin of NAMES Studio proves an important element in achieving the long range of the GX Superyachts with respectable speed. Rogantin said, "The challenge was to analyze the different operational scenarios and ensure that the hull and appendages performed to their best for each one."

Delivery Schedule

On track for a summer 2026 delivery, the first GX42 will put the exclamation point on this new superyacht brand. To learn more about GX Superyachts head to the website , or stop by the stand at the Monaco Show, QA1 Quai Antione IER.
