Round of Texel 2025

events

Texel is really the place to be for catamaran sailors. To join the Round of Texel they arrive with hundreds to the island . Every year this biggest catamaran race takes place around the island , which has started out as a small one.

The beach at pole 17 is the traditional starting and finishing point. In the week before the round there are surfing and catamaran races and party nights in the big tent. Many well-known Dutch artists and DJ’s perform there.

The catamaran race can be viewed from many places. One of them is the pathway along the sea at pole 20 ( De Koog ), near the lighthouse and further ahead at pole 33 ( De Cocksdorp ), where the catamarans sail along the coast. You also have a good view from the dyke at Oosterend , the harbor of Oudeschild , the dyke near the NIOZ and the ferry port on the ’t Horntje.

ROUND TEXEL RACE 2024

The Race around Texel

Line honours single-hande d for ifly.

The Round Texel Race – “Ronde om Texel “ is the world’s largest catamaran sailing race. Every year, over 300 catamarans compete on the water intending to sail around the island of Texel as fast as possible! Both amateur sailors and the international sailing elite participated in this race. In recent years, the race has grown into a major public event with thousands of visitors.

This year the start of the 2024 race was on Saturday 8 June.

iFLY on Winning Course at Round Texel Race single-handed – A Spectacular RACE

iFLY single-handed – first ship home – Round Texel Race

In a thrilling display of speed and agility, the iFLY proved its mettle. The iFLY RAZZOR Pro showcased its superior performance and cutting-edge technology in this race. Michael CEO of CEC Catamarans GMbH and regatta sailor single-handedly and first ship home on the iFLY, shared his experience:

“On the first (downwind) leg northwards, wind was light and strong current made it even weaker. At the same time, the westerly sea state was quite big. During this leg, foiling was on the lower edge of light wind. You know what this means for the VMG (velocity made good). At least I can say for sure, nobody else in the fleet sailed a longer distance than me. In the shallows to VC buoy I took it conservative, foils up. From VC buoy on, I passed a big part of the fleet at mind-blowing speeds, with strong wind gusting 25 kts and in the south, a very wild sea state (current against wind). All this was no problem, but little wind in combination with big waves are not ideal for a foiler. Anyway, during the fast part of the race I overtook them all and took line honors (single-handed catamarans), leaving many F18 and even N20 behind.”

Ready for the Start

It is special to see how the boats are prepared and then take to the water. The start and finish take place at Paal 17, on the west side of the island. The starting line is just off the coast and is marked by two large starting ships and a helicopter with smoke signals.

The exact start time depends on the current and wind and will be announced the morning of the race during the Skippers briefing.

From Paal 17, the catamarans depart towards the lighthouse. This is a critical point of the race: if they arrive at the lighthouse too late, they will have the current against them and unfortunately have to abandon the race. Otherwise, they sail on towards Oudeschild.

They then cross the Marsdiep where the confrontation with the TESO boat is also always an exciting part. From the Marsdiep, they sail on to the finish line at Paal 17.

Experience the Excitement

The Round Texel Race is not just a competition but a celebration of sailing prowess and the spirit of adventure. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator, the race offers an unforgettable experience of speed, strategy, and sailing skill. Mark your calendars and be part of this iconic event in 2024!

ALL TIED IN THE LOUIS VUITTON CUP FINAL AS SECOND DAY'S ONLY RACE IS TIMED OUT

image1

After a near two-hour delay waiting for a southerly ‘Migjorn’ thermal breeze to eke its way above the wind-limit of 6.5 knots, finally racing got underway between INEOS Britannia and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli just after 1600 CET on the second day of their epic first-to-seven-points Louis Vuitton Cup Final series. At the beginning of the day it was one-all, by the end of the day the score was the same, after a thrilling race was timed out with both boats in displacement mode when the wind cruelly shut down on the fifth leg of the six-leg course.

catamaran race texel

For the fans shoreside at the Race Village and the crowds at the Fanzones in Plaça del Mar and Bogatell plus the huge armada of spectator craft that took to the water on a stunning Barcelona Saturday, there were faces etched with both excitement and frustration. The fans, decked out in their team’s colours and flying flags of support were denied a race win but revelled in the atmosphere of this very special Louis Vuitton Cup Final.

catamaran race texel

Questions, though, were answered today with INEOS Britannia showing impressive light-air speed, coming off the line to windward and holding a mighty high-mode all the way to the left boundary, creating enough gauge to cross and cover Luna Rossa’s first tack.

From there, the British helming duo Sir Ben Ainslie and Dylan Fletcher sailed like the champions they are, creating big problems for the Italians with wing-wash and then clicking into a beautiful right shift as the first leg came to an end.

catamaran race texel

Rounding the port gate marker with a 19-second lead, a rare tactical error saw the British caught in a wind hole that gave away their lead almost immediately to the hard-charging Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni on Luna Rossa.

catamaran race texel

However, an equally spirited fightback was on midway down that leg as Britannia’s deep angle sailing off the wind came to their rescue. After powering over the top of the Italians and forcing them to gybe away, the British were back in the lead and it was one they built on steadily over the next two-and-a-half legs – until Mother Nature intervened.

catamaran race texel

On the final windward leg the breeze closed down at the top of the course to some three to four knots putting both boats on the knife edge of falling off the foils. After a scary moment for the British that they just managed to recover from, it was the Italians who fell into displacement after tacking off the left boundary.

catamaran race texel

Soon after, INEOS Britannia suffered the same fate after tacking at the right boundary. Both crews kept calm and tried to build the speed required for the foils to ‘bite’ and get flying, but the reality was that the race now was against the clock as the 45-minute time-limit ticked away..

catamaran race texel

Frustratingly for the British, who had looked good for the win today before the wind shut down, time ran out while both boats were sailing slowly down the final leg and the race was stopped. Shortly afterwards the Race Committee sent the yachts home for the day.

catamaran race texel

Dylan Fletcher, port helm on Britannia, took away a lot of positives from the day: “I guess just a frustrating day in terms of waiting around for that breeze and it was flirting with us the whole time at the wind limit. Obviously we then got the green light, but I think it dipped below the limit pretty quickly [afterwards].

"We take good confidence about our performance over the Italians, but a different day tomorrow in different conditions. It feels like we're making really nice gains with the yacht and finding more performance like in tacking, and in that way it's all good, but I think you can never rest on anything in this Cup. I think we'll be okay and we're looking forward to tomorrow already.”

catamaran race texel

Francesco Bruni, the port helm for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, came ashore grateful for the race timing out, plus plenty of take-aways for the Italian team: “Between the boats today it was hard to pick up on any difference between performance profile because the wind was so puffy and shifty.

We didn't have a great start, but we managed to stay close and to find our moments. But it was not an easy race. Today was actually a lot of learning for free because we could've lost a point, but we will take the luck.”

Asked whether he was surprised at the performance gain that INEOS Britannia have made through the competition, Bruni added: “No I'm not surprised because I knew it was going to happen. We all knew that they were going to improve, and they did improve. I still think that we can definitely sail better than what we did today, and it's going to be a tough final, there’s going to be a lot of hard moments and good moments.”

catamaran race texel

As the sun sets tonight, it’s still one-all in this battle of Barcelona, and there will be interesting debriefs in the British and Italian camps this evening about relative speeds in light breeze. INEOS Britannia certainly put down a serious marker today and the momentum may have swung slightly towards the British. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli will be looking to derail that train tomorrow when the breezes are expected to be in the 12-14 knot range. Hang tight, this is an unmissable series.

First wallywind 110 high-performance sailing yacht debuts at monaco.

The first Wallywind 110, Galda, enjoyed her debut at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show as the largest ... [+] delivery since Ferretti Group took the Wally Yachts helm.

The ultimate in sailing chic, Wally Yachts are streamlined, high tech, luxurious high-performance boats that appeal to the sophisticated individualist who is passionate about sailing. The largest build by the Wally group since coming under the wing of The Ferretti Group , this first 110, named Galma, confirms a commitment to the sailing fleet.

Ferretti Group Chief Executive Officer Avv. Alberto Galassi comments, "The point is to keep creating yachts that are completely different to the rest of the yachts in the sailing world. With the wallywind110, we've managed to introduce something that is distinct: the boats are completely customizable staying true to Wally's tradition, but with Ferretti Group industrial approach, so no two will ever look the same."

The Story of the 110

A high-performance sailor that is streamlined but not stripped-down, the Wallywind 110, Galda, is at ... [+] home with luxurious relaxation as well as furious racing.

In 2022 Wallywind initiated a series concept for 110-150 LOA high-performance yachts. This first Wallywind110 shows off the minimalist lines Wally is known for, dovetailed with smooth performance and features of larger yachts.

Built of carbon fiber composite, a hull material introduced to sailing yacht builds by Wally, the superiority of their innovation and expertise continues. High modulus carbon spars and rigging complement the finely-tuned hull design by judel/vrolijk & co , building into it strong cruising capability and regatta-winning potential. Also built into the design is the ability to sail the yacht with a minimal crew.

‘$16 trillion by 2030’—blackrock is quietly backing a radical new u.s. dollar rival amid a bitcoin and crypto price boom, election 2024 swing state polls: trump tightens race in these two harris strongholds, an expansive cockpit.

The clean, flush deck of the Wallywind 110 Galda, with raised deck saloon, is artfully designed to ... [+] be sleek in profile, while offering spacious interiors.

Measuring more than 860 square feet (80 square meters), Galma's cockpit features comfortable sofas, sunbeds, and informal dining that can be configured according to need. Clean of any sailing controls, the space is unencumbered to assure guests can enjoy time on board without interruption, whether at anchor or underway.

All sailing related controls are concentrated on the aft portion of the yacht. Additionally, Galda sports a flush deck all the way aft to the sunbeds. Equipped with hidden fridges amid the posh sofas, guests can choose whatever they'd like without the need to call on crew.

A Low Profile

Wallywind 110 Galda glides through the water effortlessly in equal measure whether pressed for time ... [+] in a regatta or simply cruising the coast.

The sleek Wally trademark is a low profile presented from the side, looking for all practical purposes like a completely flush deck with barely a hint of coach roof bumping the line. "The cockpit is deep, but you don't see this from outside the boat. It helps to conceal the coachroof, giving the impression of a flush-decked yacht. In reality, the Wallywind110 has all the benefits of a raised saloon without any of the aesthetic drawbacks,"explained Wally founder and chief designer Luca Bassani.

The foredeck lounge and Wally's famous sternside terrace-on-the-sea are important brand features. Intended as a social center right on the water, guests are encouraged to lounge, chat, or observe more active water sport pursuits.

The Priority Of Comfort

Bright, spacious interiors with light furnishings and woods and dark accents present a chic interior ... [+] gathering space in the raised deck saloon of the Wallywind110, debuting at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024.

While the interior configuration of the lower deck is up to the owner, most are quite happy with the space to play with allowed by the raised deck saloon design. Four large guest cabins are served by accommodations for three crew. An optional bar, office, or TV room can also be included.

The raised saloon is the center of activity on the yacht, endowed by lots of natural light from hull lights, windows, and skylights. To starboard, Galma's dining table seats eight. To port, deeply upholstered sofas welcome conversation, cocktails, and social gatherings.

Working with Studio Santa Maria Magnolfi, the Wally design team, headed by Bassani, chose light woods and pale upholstery, with contemporary accents in carbon fiber to echo the informal welcome, concurrently hinting at the speed, ease of handling, and relaxed environment on board.

Performance and Potential

Wallywind 110 Galda is a fine example of the hybrid qualities built into Wally Yachts, dovetailing ... [+] comfort and leisure with high-performance sailing and racing.

Designed and engineered to perform at the top of her game, Galma is the capable combination of speed and easy handling. Twin rudders combine with the hull design for a high degree of responsiveness.

A standard 15-foot (4.5-meter) keel with a lifting option works with a 6835 square foot (635 square meter) upwind sail plan, yielding tremendous power. Carefully controlled with an option for a square top mainsail with an increased downwind spread of 13,950 square feet (1,296 square meters) provides fast racing or passage times.

"The wallywind 110 is ideal for an experienced owner of motoryachts and is now willing to make the jump to over 100 foot sustainable sailing yachts, in order to get the extra comforts of four guest cabins and three crew cabins," says Bassani. The most likely owner, Bassani explains, is in their 40s or 50s, with a family who enjoys cruising throughout the summer, but also finds participation in a few regattas a year with friends to be enjoyable.

Experienced sailors will appreciate the Wallywind 110's responsive performance, while relaxed guests ... [+] will find accommodations and common areas quite posh.

Gauging the current interest levels regarding the first hull, Wally has already begun a second, which will have a few new tweaks and optimizations. Bassani concludes, “In all these 30 years, I’ve never had owners so radiantly happy with their new Wally,” continuing, “It means, not only do the couple love what we have designed, but what we have built and the quality we have achieved. I can say hand on heart, that this is the best Wally sailing yacht ever delivered.”
