Our usual starting point is the ecstatic port town of Puerto Caldera; it’s a town full of life and excitement. As you tour along, you get to enjoy the wonderful sight of waters overflowing with tropical fish. The jungle is also a natural beauty to behold and definitely one of the remarkable memories you will keep for a long time.

Yacht Charters in Costa Rica We have a fun-filled series of the tour that gives you a complete touch of Costa Rica. You get to enjoy thrilling trips to amazing places like the Tortuguero National Park which is popularly known as the home of flowers and animals. The route to this park is optional for you; you can either enjoy this adventurous trip through a road path, by boat or a zip line. That’s just one out of many; the pacific coast present you with awe-inspiring tours such as the wildlife tour to Curu National Wildlife Refuge, beaches of the island of Tortuga, etc. there’s a lot more to experience… let’s give you an overview of our one-week itinerary. 

One week itinerary

Day One On you arrival to San Jose, we allow you settle into the hotel of your choice while we get set for you first tour. Your journey starts as you go through Costa Rica’s West Coast to the magnificent Bahia Herradura, where you will be boarding your private yacht. It’s a luxury yacht filled with amazing accessories and features to give you great comfort. Day Two On the second day, we take a cruise to Quepos to enjoy a fun packed day. You get to enjoy a scuba dive. It’s an experience you will be glad to have. You get to swim under the water with the aid of breathing apparatus (scuba) and enjoy the beauty of nature under the water. On this same day, you will also take a trip to the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. This park has a lot of exciting features. You get to explore the jungle to see the beauty of nature at its best. Squirrels, monkeys, three-toed sloths are just a few of so many wonderful creatures to see. If you have never gone on a wildlife tour you may never want to leave the scene. It’s great if you have your camera with you because you will have a lot you want to keep for future references. Day Three We take a luxurious cruise to Isla Del Cano a unique site known for its hidden world of submarine caves with a  display of alluring tropical fish, turtles, etc. one sight you will never forget is the magnanimous giant manta rays. After an exotic lunch on the yacht, we give you a while to spend some quality time to enjoy your siesta or any other form of relaxation you enjoy as we get set for dinner. It’s a wonderful dinner as we dine grand style under a canopy of stars in the immaculate Drake’s Bay.

Day Four Leave early for Golfo Dulce where we will stop for a trip to the Corcovado National Park. Here you will experience some quite spectacular bird watching such as pairs of scarlet macaws. When in the wild you will always find them in pairs and if they are captured and separated, they will never mate again as they always mate for life once they choose their partner. We'll paddle up the Agujitas River by kayak while listening to the cacophony of sounds that the yellow-orange billed toucans and scarlet macaws make. We'll anchor for the night in Golfo Dulce and have an early dinner onboard while the crew prepares for an overnight passage to Coiba Island in Panama. Day Five At Coiba Island, you will have an experience of a swim snorkel or scuba gear as you explore the reefs. You w ill also enjoy world class deep-fishing. Coiba Island is rich with tropical rain forest which is a home for varieties of beautiful birds like the red and blue-green macaws.

Day Six On the sixth day, you will be on a cruise to the Las Perlas Islands. They are geographically positioned in a way that they shelter the Isla Sonora Caves hosting the world largest pelican habitat. It’s a great sight to behold here and you can look around to find pearls of Espiritu Santo. Lunch is served onboard, with a variety of plenty to eat before you have your siesta. After a quality time of rest, you get to enjoy an exotic dinner again. Day Seven Our next tour will be to Mira Flores Lock and the much talked about Panama Canal. It takes about a full day or night to cross over to Isthmus Panama. Get your cameras ready as you may be lucky to catch a view of the endangered manatee which takes the Chagres River as its home. A lot of amazing animals will be seen on this tour, you never can tell what next you will be opportune to see. Dinner is served as you arrive at Puerto Cristobal Habor. The chef and the crew know its’ your last night and they will be prepared to spoil you with varieties of exotic meals. Day Eight As you depart the yacht at the scheduled time, there will be a classic transportation arranged by the captain to take your group to Colon to board a flight back home.

The purpose of our tours is to show you the beauties of the Pacific Ocean, as well as the dramatic and interesting coastline in the region comprised between the marina and the national prk, including fantastic views of cliffs, islets and islands, hills covered by dense tropical trees, both within the National Park and the surrounding areas.

Our private tours are conducted on sailing catamarans, classic sailboats and luxury yachts .

The trips include visiting remote beaches, snorkeling in an islet lagoon or rock reef, and visiting a remote, pristine and natural beach.

We offer different tours, among which are:

Private morning catamaran sailing 

– 4 hour private trip in the morning. During this ride, which leaves at 8 am and departs at 12 noon, you will enjoy snorkeling, sailing, beautiful views, fun on board. Hopefully we will see dolphins on the way, or sea turtles, and even humpback whales during whale season.

Sunset Charter

– The 4-hour afternoon private sunset charter departs at 2:00 pm and returns at 6:00 pm. Enjoy open bar, meals, snorkeling, sailing along the beautiful coastline, anchoring and visiting a rocky pinnacle for snorkeling or a beautiful natural beach.

Full day experience

– Full day tour departs at 11 am from Manuel Antonio or Quepos and returns at sunset. Includes open bar, meals, full lunch, snorkeling, (in some cases also paddle boards and kayaks) as well as exploring some beautiful remote and pristine clear sandy beaches. 100 % custom designed !

Where the tour departs from: - Mal Pais - South end of the beach In the case of Santa Teresa we can pick you up directly on the beach, unless an extraordinary situation prevents the swell, in which case, the closest port to board is Mal Pais. We have a fleet of yachts and motor boats ideal for private trips in the area. Half day private charter tour This tour has a duration of 4 hours, but additional hours can be added. The tour includes visiting remote and remote destinations, snorkeling, open bar, food and music. Full day private tour The full day tour offers 8 hours or more of pure fun. Request your quote now to pre-book the full day charter during which you will get to know the best of the Nicoya Peninsula.

Avalable boats and sailboats

Let us know in advance what kind of boat you are interested in. A smaller boat, a medium sized yacht, a large yacht, a sailboat or a catamaran sailboat. Activities available might also changer slightly depending on the boat, although most include snorkeling gear, and many also include kayaks and paddle boards for extra enjoyment when visiting remote beaches or make a stop at a rocky islet for snorkeling. Fishing rods can also be included if requested in advance. In case you are interested ina fishing trip, we have a fleet for boats and fishing yachts available for coastal half day an full day fishing as well as off shore or deep sea fishing.

As we sailed along the Pacific coast a pod of more than 300 spinner dolphins broke the sea, like a fusillade of missiles, along side our sail boat.

We were onboard the Star Clipper, a luxurious replica of a 19th century clipper ship. Star Clipper is a small cruise ship but a big sailing ship and a clean, quiet way to explore a nation that fiercely guards its rich nature. The ship uses her sails as much as possible, relying on engines only when wind doesn’t cooperate. “She’ll do 17 knots with wind power, even with just three sails up,” second officer Sergei told me. “The engines, nine knots.”

Sails are raised by hand and passengers are welcome to haul ropes. Those with steady stomachs can climb the rigging to the crow’s nest for a seagull’s view of the ship cutting the sea. Along the way, I saw a variety of sea turtles paddle dreamily alongside, and wintering humpbacks break the surface with a snort of spray.

The ship was the first cruise ship to achieve an International Air Pollution Certificate, and its eco-credentials have been certified by the Costa Rican government’s Pura Vida Pledge. Costa Rica has only .03% of Earth’s terrain, yet hosts 5% of its biodiversity. Almost 28% of the country is protected.

“I have the pleasure to show my country to a lot of people,” says Costa Rica-born cruise director Axel Melchior. “We go to the south and its humid, green national parks, and then sail the whole Pacific Coast to [the northern province of] Guanacaste with its beaches and tropical dry forest.”

Late one night, with most passengers asleep, the darkness came alive with loud clapping, like applause at a concert.

“Rays,” said a crew member. Mobula Rays, to be specific, perhaps thousands of them, leaping and belly-flapping with their flat bodies. They’re commonly known as devil rays for the pair of horn-like fins on their heads, or flying popcorn for their noise. Pop, pop, pop, slap, slap, slap.

I asked a deckhand to turn on a searchlight. The bright beam shot across the black sea and the famously shy rays instantly disappeared. The moment the searchlight went out, the chorus of slapping rose again.

Wildlife sightings filled each day, yet to characterize the trip as an eco-cruise would ignore the beach days and blissful hours spent relaxing aboard.

Star Clipper has the feel of a private yacht

The experience is the brainchild of Swedish entrepreneur Mikael Krafft, who harboured a lifelong dream of recreating the golden age of sail. While sailing the Caribbean on his 39-metre schooner, Gloria, he got the idea that a small cruise line would be the way to bring his dream to life. Star Flyer launched in 1991 and Star Clipper a year later, both modern and luxurious but otherwise faithful to the classic designs of the 19th century.

At 115 metres, Star Clipper has 88 wood-panelled cabins with twin or double beds (no bunks), lots of storage and ensuite bathrooms. Two small pools grace the teak sun decks, shaded by 3,365 square metres of sail rigged on four towering masts.

“I wanted the ships to have the feel of a private yacht, which is why the cabins are like those on my own yacht,” said Krafft, adding that his replicas are actually much bigger than clipper ships of yore.

There’s an outdoor bar, a piano lounge, a library and a small spa. In a spacious and elegant dining room, passengers dine when they please on fine cuisine. “Everything is prepared fresh to order,” said supervising chef Randall Gayle. “On a small ship you can do that.”  The extensive menu changes daily, with full evening table service and themed buffets at breakfast and lunch.

Dusk is a special time of day, as passengers return from shore and gather on deck to watch the sails go up as the sun goes down. Warm tropical evenings often morphed into deck parties. Some passengers preferred private corners. I liked to lie on cushions looking up through the rigging as the masts moved against a backdrop of stars; now and then a shooting star would glow and flame out.

We dropped anchor near the bushy coasts of famous preserves. At Manuel Antonio National Park, a frisky troop of white capuchin monkeys surrounded me, oblivious to my presence. I could stand just a metre away and witness their behaviour: A mother ferrying a baby on her back, young siblings playing, adults de-licing each other.

Further south, where the town of Golfito sits on the edge of “the most biologically intense place on earth”, according to National Geographic, I followed a trail through Refugio Nacional de Fauna Silvestre. At a small waterfall I beat the humidity by standing under its cool cascade. My presence elicited shrieks from small squirrel monkeys, and bellicose protests from big black howler monkeys, which can be heard for two kilometres. Heliconia, passion flower and red ginger blossoms reached for patches of sun in the undergrowth.

Howlers also voiced their displeasure as we pulled up at long beaches in the arid north: Panama, Flamingo, Portero. Even in high season, I could walk a kilometre of sand marred by few footprints. Large but harmless spiny iguanas scampered in the thin shade of mesquite trees. Brown boobies alighted on rocks and giant frigate birds swooped overhead.

With a snorkel and fins I tried to follow a green sea turtle. Beaches in this area of Costa Rica are prime breeding sites for several turtle species. Olive Ridleys come ashore by the thousands to lay eggs in events known as Arribada (arrival), usually around a full moon. No one can predict exactly when, so the chance to witness it means spending time in Costa Rica before or after the cruise.

“That’s a good thing about this cruise,” Axel says. “The turnaround is always in Costa Rica, Saturday to Saturday, so travellers can come a week early or stay a week after and know more about my country.”
