Southport Yacht Club Marina, located on one of the most beautiful waterfronts on the Gold Coast.

With 300 berths in the Marina, we are also home to Australia’s Largest Floating Megayacht Berth at 160 meters, accommodating vessels up to 135 meters. The Megayacht berth offers up to 600amp power , camera surveillance across the dock, grants a drive on pontoon for ease of provisioning and a service road for craning or bunkering. 

Southport Yacht Club is also an Australian Port of Entry for clearing vessels arriving and departing Internationally.

Additional facilities on hand include, 24hr security surveillance, access to wireless internet, proximity card Access, gym, onshore amenities, 24hr fuel jetty with fuel bunkering available for larger vessels. SYC hardstand has a 35m ton travel lift providing easy access to 20 hardstand places ranging in size from 20ft to 50ft.

Exclusive Waterfront Dining can be enjoyed from our two Gold Coast locations. The award-winning Waterfront Restaurant at the SYC Main Beach Clubhouse or the Bistro at the SYC Hollywell Sailing Academy.

The north facing 4Shore Bar, located outdoors on the lawn, broadcasting the Marina is the perfect place for the captains and crew to unwind, watch the sunset, enjoy a cocktail, or listen to live music.

Southport Yacht Club also hosts an array of waterfront function spaces that capture stunning and picturesque views, overlooking the private marina and tranquil Gold Coast Broadwater.

Only a short walk across the road is one of the world’s most famous beach fronts where you can stroll the beach, go surfing, kite boarding, take a swim or partake in many other activities.

24 Hour Yacht Race returns to Southport as Budworth SC claims victory in spectacular weekend of sailing

The 53rd West Lancashire Yacht Club (WLYC) 24-Hour Dinghy Race came to a spectacular close, with Budworth Sailing Club (SC) claiming victory after 24 hours of sailing non-stop on the waters of the Marine Lake in Southport.

The event, which took place over the weekend of 21st-22nd September 2024, brought together some of the best sailing talent from across the UK. 

After 24 hours of intense and tactical racing, Budworth SC claimed the top spot by achieving the fastest average lap time, followed closely by South Staffordshire SC, who were neck and neck with Budworth SC throughout, and Looe SC in third place.

Mayor of Sefton Councillor June Burns, who fired the starting gun on Saturday and presented the Southport Centenary Trophy to the winners on Sunday, said: 

“It’s great to have the 24-Hour Race back. 

“I’m a huge supporter of what the Race represents for the people of Southport and the sailing community across the UK – the rising to the greatest of challenges through teamwork and endurance. A huge congratulations to the winning team Budworth SC and everyone who participated. I’m looking forward to next year’s race already.”

West Lancashire Yacht Club Commodore Richard Westlake, said: 

“Well done to Budworth SC for their incredible performance in this year’s race! It was amazing to see such focus, determination and sailing skill from all the teams involved, which included local sea cadets as well the national sailing elite. After a five gap the eagerly awaited return of the event to Southport marks the first in a new generation of the WLYC 24 Hour Race, as a collaboration of all the sailing clubs involved. It wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous effort of the hundreds of competitors and volunteers from participating clubs – from Scotland to Sussex and from Bridlington to Blackpool – who made this year’s race such a resounding success, supported by our local members and spectators, sponsors Marine Supplies Direct and Sefton MBC.

It was a weekend full of competitive spirit, camaraderie, and love for sailing, and we couldn’t have asked for better conditions or more enthusiasm all the way through to the exciting finish.”

•         3rd Place: Looe SC

The WLYC sailing development programme will benefit from a successful fundraising raffle, with all proceeds going towards the club’s innovative work to widen access for young people interested in trying sailing in Southport.

The 24-hour endurance race, first held in 1967, which had grown into a beloved tradition in the sailing world, is ‘back with a boom!’ as a key fixture in Southport’s event calendar. Teams raced tirelessly through the night, navigating lively wind conditions and intense competition in front of enthusiastic spectators on all sides of the lake.

Looking Forward to Next Year

WLYC is already preparing for next year’s race, and the club hopes to build on this year’s momentum by continuing to grow participation from sailors of all ages and abilities. The club invites sailors and spectators alike to return to the Marine Lake, Southport in September 2025 and join for what promises to be another unforgettable race. Now They’re Dance Partners for Life

Grayson Warrick is the son of a retired ballet dancer. Alyssa Hubbard grew up dancing. And the two first met in preschool in New York.

Technically, Alyssa Prescott Hubbard and Grayson Evan Warrick first met in preschool. They were in the same class at Garden House School, then on East 64th Street in Manhattan, but she doesn’t really remember him.

He does, however, remember her — particularly for the time she evicted his twin sister, Alexandra, from a playhouse and declared it hers.

“Not my finest moment,” Ms. Hubbard conceded. (Mr. Warrick added that Ms. Hubbard has a far friendlier demeanor now. “She’s got the best laugh out of anyone I know,” he said, “and I think the physically largest smile I’ve seen on anyone.”)

Ms. Hubbard lived with her parents and two siblings a block away from the preschool, and Mr. Warrick lived with his parents and twin sister on the other side of Central Park.

Fourteen years passed, and in 2012, the two reconnected at John Jay Hall, a first-year dormitory, as freshmen at Columbia. It was orientation week, and Ms. Hubbard was hauling her belongings to her room, while Mr. Warrick was visiting a mutual friend who lived on her floor.

During their getting-to-know-you conversation, when they mentioned growing up in the city, the memory of the “willful” preschool girl was conjured in Mr. Warrick’s memory, he said. It helped that she looked almost identical to the preschool version of herself — just grown up.

The two became friends, and over winter break, while their classmates returned home for the holidays, they stayed on campus. Together they went to Christmas parties, the ballet and the movies.

In January 2013, Ms. Hubbard invited Mr. Warrick to attend President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in Washington with her family and friends. (Former Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York, a close friend of the family, had invited them.) As Stevie Wonder performed “Sir Duke,” they danced, and it was on that dance floor that they realized there could be something more.

About eight months later, in September 2014, as they were swing dancing at an annual clambake in Newport, R.I., their relationship took yet another turn. After a night of partying by the beach, they had their first kiss on her family’s boat.

“No words needed to be exchanged,” Mr. Warrick said.

They even have a photo dancing together that night. She grew up dancing ballet, and his mother, Helene Alexopoulos, was a principal dancer for the New York City Ballet , who retired in 2002.

Ms. Hubbard, a product manager at Meta, graduated from Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in classics. She received a master’s degree in classics from Oxford. Mr. Warrick graduated from Columbia with bachelor’s degrees in economics and Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies. He received master’s degrees from the Yale School of Management and from the Yale School of Public Health. He will start a role as a consultant at Bain and Company in November.

As a couple, they went through two long periods of being long distance while they navigated graduate school. In June, Mr. Warrick proposed to Ms. Hubbard at Elbow Beach in Bermuda, just after she accidentally stepped on a jellyfish tentacle wrapped in seaweed.

On Sept. 14, the couple were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Conn., by the Rev. Matthew Lindeman before 150 guests. Afterward, they walked down a path of freshly mowed grass as guests tossed white petals at them.

The newlyweds arrived to the reception at the Pequot Yacht Club in Southport, Conn., on a 36-foot Little Harbor yacht.

“He’s got lipstick on his mouth,” one guest said as the couple walked along the dock to enter the party.

“Tell him to wipe it off,” said the groom’s mother.

“Nah, it’s their wedding day, let him keep it on,” the guest replied.

Then, of course, they danced the night away.

The mission of the Southport Yacht Club is to encourage and promote all aspects of yachting in the spirit of good sportsmanship and camaraderie.  The club is committed to creating a Corinthian atmosphere by blending a friendly social environment with a variety of sailing and cruising programs in which members and their families may participate.
