Willing to pay that extra 20% for a used, as we will be looking at a 10-15 year old boat. Will not buy one that was in a fleet.
Thoughts on Leopards. Not trying to pick on other brands.

Trim tabs typically don’t work well on catamarans, so Leopard used a computational fluid dynamics algorithm in a virtual test tank to ensure that this model would run level in big seas, with the twin goals of maximizing guest comfort and solidifying lines of sight. Leopard says the process also increases fuel efficiency. The model comes with multiple Yanmar diesels, including twin 250-horsepower, 320-horsepower, and 370-horsepower versions. With the twin 320 powerplants, top speed is 23 knots while cruise is about 16.
The 40’s main deck is flush, leading from the fairly sizable cockpit into a salon that is filled with windows, providing exceptional views from this glass sanctuary. The windshield flips open for ventilation, and the forward door creates a passage to the boat’s broad foredeck.
The lower deck has three staterooms, each with its own head and shower, with the main suite being on the starboard side, running the full length of the pontoon.
The foredeck makes excellent use of the boat’s generous beam. There’s a sun lounge, of course, for enjoying the area. Perhaps more interesting is the stowage beneath the cushions, where a deep, wide locker is designed to hold toys, extra clothing, dive tanks, or whatever other equipment needs to be stowed. Two other lockers forward of this one let you really load the boat for long-distance cruising. Sturdy, thigh-high guardrails encircling the bow providing an element of safety for with family cruises.

The Leopard 51 Powercat Makes History
[january 17, 2018].
We are pleased to announce that Leopard Catamarans has built and sold over 100 Leopard 51 Powercats.
We believe it is safe to say that we have found our sweet spot in the powercat market. Since the inception of the Leopard 51 PC in 2013, we had high expectations for her success. The design team of Simonis-Voogd Yacht Design, along with the team of experts at Robertson & Caine, put their talented minds together and brought us the most popular powercat ever to grace the Leopard Catamaran Fleet.
This yacht has it all, but maybe there are some things about this popular model that you do not know. To celebrate this huge milestone for the flagship of our powercat fleet, we have decided to share with you a list of 10 facts about the Leopard 51 PC that may (or may not) surprise you.
1. The Leopard 51 PC was the first Leopard Powercat designed by Simonis-Voodg Yacht Desgin.
2. The flybridge of the Leopard 51 PC is the largest in its class.
3. The flybridge of the 51 PC can be fully enclosed for maximum comfort.
4. The Leopard 51 PC is highly favored by delivery skippers for comfort and reliability.
5. The shallow draft of 3 feet allows the Leopard 51 PC to go where most motor yachts of this size simply can’t.
6. The Leopard 51 PC is so efficient that if you cruised her at 8 knots you could make it from New York to Ft. Lauderdale without having to refuel.
7. Last year Leopard Catamarans sold 9 powercats to the Asian Market.
8. The first leisure powercats did not appear until the mid 90’s.
9. The Leopard 51 PC is the first Leopard Powercat to reach 100 ships.
10. You can charter the Leopard 51 PC as a crewed yacht through the Moorings in the Caribbean.
While the Leopard 51 PC is currently the most popular model, the Leopard 43 PC is not too far behind. She boast 64 ships since her inception in 2015. No matter the model, with the increased production year on year, we know one thing is for certain, powercats are making huge waves in the yachting industry for more reasons than one.
We know that without loyal customers we would not be able to celebrate this huge milestone! And so we want to say thank you for all of your support. We know that we have the best customers and we appreciate you.

Evolving from 50 years of customer feedback, Leopard Catamarans has pooled their expertise with builders Robertson and Caine to design today’s Leopard range: spacious, robust, performance-driven blue water cruising catamarans.
Leopard 42, a catamaran designed with the 25 years of experience of the shipyard
Building on nearly 25 years of product evolution, Leopard Catamarans, in partnership with the design teams at Robertson & Caine and Simonis & Voogd Yacht Design, has officially launched the latest addition to its sailing yacht range, the new Leopard 42.
Technical data sheet Request for documentation Rate request
Even if it replaces it in the range, the Leopard 42 isn't just a simple replacement for the highly successful Leopard 40. It is a much more spacious yacht, with better finishes, a better defined exterior, an additional relaxation area and larger, more comfortable, brighter and more private cabins! All this while respecting what has made Leopard a success: comfort and performance without compromise. It complements the Leopard 45 a catamaran whose new version is gaining improvements.
Resolutely modern lines
On the Leopard 42, the emphasis has been on the exterior style, which has evolved by applying the modern design of the Leopard 50 (voted boat of the year 2019), which features continuous side windows along the hull and a one-piece hardtop roof in contrast to the windows. Her look has been further refined by the stepped hulls, which end with a straight bow.
The interior design of the Leopard 42 has adopted the style that was developed for the Leopard 53 Powercat (elected Multihull of the Year 2020). With strong contrasts, indirect lighting and meticulous finishes, the Leopard 42 brings more luxury and elegance to the Leopard sailing yacht range.
Sunbathing on the deckhouse
The addition of a lounge area near the helm station is a considerable difference between the Leopard 42 and any catamaran under 45 feet. This outdoor lounge offers an additional 5 square meters of space dedicated to relaxation, increasing the total outdoor area by 65%. This lounge area is the place to be at anchor , with an L-shaped seat and upholstered backrest, as well as a fixed composite table. A space that integrates with the design without adding too much weight.
Controlled on-board traffic
Access to the saloon is a revolutionary feature for the Leopard fleet. A comfortable staircase on the port side of the aft cockpit takes you there, without encroaching on the headroom of the aft cockpit or interfering with the helm layout. The steps are located on the inside of the roof so that they do not interfere with the exterior appearance and leave an unobstructed view of the interior of the aft cockpit.
The fully protected helm station is always raised and located to starboard - as in all Leopard catamarans . All manoeuvres also return to the helm station to allow single-handed sailing. The captain has a direct view of the lounge, the aft cockpit, the bows and skirts, and the mainsail .
Access to the front through a door in the saloon
Inside, natural light enters through the skylight and 360-degree glazing. The forward-facing sofa at the stern provides direct communication with the U-shaped, forward-facing galley, now found on all yacht models. Also unique for a catamaran of this size, the Leopard 42 offers a watertight front access door for better ventilation, easy circulation and exceptional forward visibility. An innovation first introduced by Leopard catamarans and which has been part of its DNA ever since.
Island bed in all cabins
All cabin beds (fore/aft) are accessible from both sides, but are wider than on the Leopard 40. In addition to the larger beds, the floor area has increased by 35% in the guest cabins and by 30% in the owner's cabin.
To achieve a greater sense of space in the cabins, an effort was made to maximise natural light by using continuous glazing along the hull, adding portholes where space permitted and maximising their height. As a result, the interior hull of the Leopard 42 has twice the glazed area of the Leopard 40!
All cabins aboard the Leopard 42 have their own bathroom. This is a significant improvement over the Leopard 40, where the two guest cabins shared a central washroom. Although this is a considerable improvement, the most significant achievement is that both guest cabins have their own shower area, a feature not currently found on catamarans of this size.
Catamarans designed for the open sea
In terms of performance, stepped hulls and powerful rigging ensure optimum performance in all wind conditions. Moreover, the hull design of modern cruising catamarans is as complex as the requirements are stringent. The innovative design of the internal structure of the Leopard 42 makes it a solid offshore sailing yacht, capable of sailing all the seas of the globe, while having a beautiful open plan with large windows all around and doors opening aft and forward.
The new Leopard 42 is imbued with the brand's unique DNA, with many of the technologies and construction techniques used to make it a spacious, comfortable and high-performance ocean-going catamaran; advantages previously only found on much larger models.

Rightboat Interview: Frank Bauguil on Leopard’s New Electric Catamaran
25th sep 2024 by alastair walton.
At the Cannes Yacht Show in September, Alastair Walton from the Rightboat.com UK Office talked about Leopard catamarans with Franck Bauguil, VP of Ownership and Product Development for Sunsail, Moorings and Leopard Catamarans. On display at the show was the new Leopard 40PC model, a power cruising catamaran in series with the Leopard 46PC and 53PC, designed by Simonis Voogd. The new model boasts 50% more space and 50% less fuel consumption than similar length monohulls, and it has the largest flybridge found anywhere on a 40-foot powercat. The brief conversation focused mainly on what’s next for the Leopard brand.
Franck Bauguil has been a key player in developing sail and powercats for Sunsail, Moorings and Leopard Catamarans over many years.
Alastair Walton: Tell us about the new 46-foot sailing catamaran and why electric? Do you think that we'll have more and more boats powered electrically over the future?
Franck Bauguil : We’re launching a new 46-foot model, so that's the biggest event for us. It's a new sailing catamaran that we developed over the last year and a half, and it's developed for Moorings, Sunsail, and Leopard Catamarans.
The first boat that we just tested in Cape Town is going to be at the Annapolis Boat Show, and it happens to be equipped with a hybrid pack with electric drives. That’s not going to necessarily be the case for all the boats, but on the first boat we have all the possible options on the boat under the Leopard brand.
Also available with diesel engines, the first Leopard 46 Electric Drive will be powered by a hybrid pack with electric drives.
So, it's an important development for us, the first time that we are going full speed on this. We did build a diesel electric a long time ago, before we had lithium batteries and with the idea of a genset running all the time, feeding two electric motors. With another brand that we have, we also ventured into hybrid propulsion a few years back. But this package here is a lot more sophisticated and self-contained. The technology has dramatically changed: we have independent units on both sides of the boat, the capacity from the battery bank is increased dramatically, we have better solar energy, and better electrical systems. We even have the ability to regenerate power from the propellers on the sailboat.
Walton : Will you build the electric 46 for all three brands?
Bauguil : The electric propulsion is Leopard-only for us—we're not venturing to the charter side yet for several reasons. One is that we have to be able to service the boats, which at this point we do not have the skills to troubleshoot this kind of system, even though the way you troubleshoot this can be remote, you have a SIM card on the board and basically you log into the system. Also, there's a premium on the price that is not necessarily accepted by the charter customer: Is the charter client ready to pay 15 to 20 percent more to have an electrical motor on board? Some of our competitors went full on with electric propulsion for charter boats, and we see that it's not working, it's not only difficult to sell it but also difficult to operate. For now, it's for the Leopard brand, the private sale division of our company, as an option on the 46. That’s a pack that some private owners can purchase.
Now, if you're already looking at equipping a private boat with a lithium battery bank and a generator, which is the majority of our Leopard customers, the price difference shrinks quite a bit because you eliminate two diesel engines, you have a bigger genset, and the benefit is to be able to power quietly without any vibration or smell. You eliminate the element of noise under propulsion and you still have diesel on board to feed the genset, so obviously we have to deliver a safe boat where even though you can run batteries down, you can still power for a long period with the Gen set running to recharge the batteries.
The world premiere for the Leopard 46 Electric Drive will be at the 2024 Annapolis Sailboat Show.
Walton : How fast do you see electric propulsion replacing diesel?
Bauguil: The whole transformation in the industry is towards less emission, more efficient systems as well, but it’s slow to come as the systems are not easy to put together. We are working with one supplier so the package is self-contained, and we don't have the different elements from different businesses. It's a company that's been doing this for over 10 years, and we've tested it extensively on the prototype we built before the first 46. So, we are going into it slowly because we want to make sure that the product we're delivering to the market is reliable.
Now how will the market react to it? We still have to realize there's a significant cost associated with it, but we know that there's a desire from the owners to run that genset less—we’re already delivering more and more boats with lithium battery banks to reduce or eliminate the need to run the genset; once you anchor you can use a proper energy regeneration system that will come in part from solar panels and rely on a large battery bank to run all your “house” systems without starting the genset.
As far as electric propulsion is concerned, that is newer, where you have this ability to run without any diesel engine for several hours and then you can put your sails up — which by the way, let’s never forget that a sailboat is as green as it can be. The sailing segment of our business in charter or for private owners is eco-friendly in the sense that if you have wind and you have a boat like the Leopard that performs well enough even in five or six knots of wind, you can always sail. With the 46, if you can get in and out of a marina under electric power, without any emission, that’s even better.
The Leopard 40PC is the newest and shortest of the brand's series of 3 spacious powercats.
Walton : Leopard has had a fantastic history since 1997. How much of your market is in Europe versus the U.S.?
Bauguil : We are an American company, and we started building the first Robertson & Caine boats in 1997; they were built for the Moorings, which is associated with the Caribbean and the American customers so historically we are more American if you like. Moorings was already a global company when we rolled out the Robertson & Caine cats worldwide at the very beginning. Leopard came a little bit later; we started Leopard in 2000 in the US and then we entered the European market in 2007. Is Europe a big piece of your business? Yes, because we have bases in the in the Med with Moorings and Sunsail, which merged with the Moorings, so by definition we have a big activity in a Med which is mostly European with some Americans. For Leopard, we dominate in the US where we are the leading catamaran brand in the US—No. 1 in sailing and power. In Europe, Leopard is a smaller business for us and we're competing with brands that have been around a long time and do a good job building boats as well.
Our yachts are built in the southern hemisphere in Cape Town, which is not necessarily the closest place to deliver into the Med but it’s still an important business for us and it’s growing, particularly on the power side where we have a dominance globally. If you look at power cats with inboard diesel engines, we are No. 1 globally.
What we try to do is have an ecosystem between Moorings, Sunsail, Robertson & Caine, and Leopard and it’s an exclusivity with a builder that’s pretty unique in the business. We try to work as best together as we can through all the different events such as Covid and Hurricane Irma , which was a big thing for us. Coming out of COVID so we're not obsessed with growth but certainly our market share has been steadily growing in Europe.
A view of the forward cockpit on the Leopard 40PC.
Walton : The Cannes Yacht Show marks the beginning of the boat show season, and you're launching the Leopard 40 power cat here. What does the rest of the show season look like for you?
Bauguil : We have the Grand Pavois La Rochelle, which is a bit more of a charter show for us, and Southampton, which I will be at this year. Then at the same time we have Newport in the U.S, which is a good show for us particularly for charter. And it will be at Annapolis where we're going to have the 46’s world introduction launch with the electric pack, followed by the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, FLIBS, where our powerboat business is becoming really healthy. We’re seeing more and more people coming from motor yachts into power cats and this is the big Florida power show, where we also have our office.
Walton : Congratulations and thank you, Franck. Best of luck.

Power range, introducing the, leopard 50 catamaran, the next generation of leopard catamarans.
Designed as a versatile replacement for the award-winning Leopard 48 (Boat of the Year 2012), the new Leopard 50 is an exciting new cruising sailing catamaran taking the best of Leopard Catamarans’ previous features yet boasting new innovations and design elements both on the exterior and interior.
With naval architecture by Simonis & Voogd Yacht Design, and with exterior and a fresh new look on the interior design by the world-class design team at Robertson and Caine, the Leopard 50 proudly ushers in the next generation of Leopard Catamarans’ style and functionality.
29+ Years of Production Expertise
While the exterior of the yacht has been enhanced, Naval Architect for Simonis Voogd Design, Alexander Simonis, tells us this:
“Most of the work has been done ‘under the bonnet’ so to say by advances made in the construction geometry of the new 50. To create the beautiful open plan layouts and the nearly 360-degree view from the saloon area while at the same time have a strong and stiff yacht which is not too heavy requires advanced engineering solutions.
The new Leopard 50 makes use of carbon-infused ring frames in the most critical areas to achieve this. This type of construction has been pioneered on the larger all carbon racing catamarans and is now successfully being applied in this Leopard cruising catamaran so that we can offer the best possible mix between comfort, space and performance.”
The perfect blend of comfort and style.
“Stepping onboard the L50 will reveal an interior that is contemporary in style, with a focus that blends aesthetic detail with functionality.
Cabins are more open and spacious than ever before thanks to widening bulkhead openings as much as possible. This is achieved by combining exotic materials with new modern construction techniques.
One can appreciate the sense of ease and comfort while moving throughout the boat. This is a product of our team’s passionate approach stemming from initial sketches, to detailed 3D models, and finally life-size replicas of each area where we physically and meticulously tweaked every single feature until we were 100% satisfied that we had the best product available.”
- Michael Robertson, Tampa Design Team
The innovative flybridge on the Leopard 50 includes a lounge area, a sunbed and shade awning. Access to the flybridge is provided by floating stairs leading up from the aft cockpit. While under sail, passengers can move about the flybridge with ample headroom and never worry about interference from the boom.

The New Leopard 46
A game-changer the leopard 46: a new standard in luxury and innovation.
In a bold step forward, Leopard Catamarans introduced the latest addition to their renowned fleet: the Leopard 46 on September 11, 2024, at the Cannes Yachting Festival .
This sleek new model brings together cutting-edge design, enhanced performance, and a focus on sustainable cruising. Leopard Catamarans, in collaboration with their trusted builders Robertson and Caine, have demonstrated their mastery of catamaran design with the unveiling of this new model.
Franck Bauguil, Global Sales Manager for Leopard Catamarans, expressed his excitement about the new model, emphasizing the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of onboard comfort and technological innovation. “The Leopard 46 is a testament to Leopard Catamarans’ commitment to engineering excellence and elevated onboard living,” said Bauguil. “We have meticulously designed and built a vessel that not only delivers exceptional performance but also provides an unparalleled level of luxury and comfort.”
Design and Comfort
The Leopard 46 stands out with its modern and elegant exterior, drawing inspiration from the brand’s history. Its wraparound coachroof windows create a striking silhouette and flood the interior with natural light, offering panoramic views.
One of the most notable design elements is the retractable companionway sliding door which stows away behind the helm station. This feature connects the saloon to the aft cockpit, providing a versatile space for entertaining and relaxing while maintaining two distinct areas when needed.
Michael Robertson, Chief Designer at Leopard Catamarans, highlighted the attention to detail that went into the Leopard 46’s design. “We’ve carefully considered every detail to ensure that this vessel not only looks stunning but also provides a truly exceptional sailing experience,” Robertson explained.
A Hybrid Approach to Performance and Sustainability
One of the key features of the Leopard 46 is its focus on sustainable cruising. With a hybrid electric drive option and integrated solar panels, the yacht reduces reliance on generators, making it more eco-friendly and efficient during extended voyages. For those seeking performance, the Leopard 46 also has an option for a taller mast and performance sail package, enhancing its sailing capabilities in a variety of conditions.
For more convenience, the Leopard 46 can be equipped with an optional lifting tender platform, simplifying access to the water and making launching a tender easier than ever.
Flexible Layouts to Suit Any Program
The Leopard 46 is available in several configurations, including a 3-cabin layout with an additional utility room, a four-cabin version, and a spacious 5-cabin setup. This adaptability will make the yacht appealing to a wide range of sailors, from those looking for a family-friendly vessel to groups seeking a luxurious cruising experience. Premium materials and finishes create a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere.
With open integration between the aft cockpit and the saloon, owners can customize their space with various table and furniture arrangements, ensuring the yacht suits their personal style and sailing needs.
The Leopard 46 will make its worldwide debut at the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, this October. European enthusiasts can catch the yacht’s EU premiere at the International Multihull Show in France in April 2025. This yacht will also be available through charter yacht management programs with The Moorings and Sunsail, allowing sailors to experience the Leopard 46 through popular charter companies before committing to ownership.
With its innovative design, focus on sustainability and luxury features, the Leopard 46 is set to make some waves in the market.
