Catamaran Charters
Most visitors to Namibia travel to see exquisite landscapes and majestic wildlife. Yet, few ever consider Namibia’s maritime wildlife as part of their game sighting safaris. At Catamaran Charters we change all that. On our educational dolphin and seal cruises, guests get front row seats to watch seals being boisterous and stand a good chance to be introduced to the eccentric-looking great white pelican and that is only the beginning. You will have an excellent chance of seeing at least one of the more common members of the Marine Big 5 as we are often accosted by Bottlenose, Heaviside and Dusky dolphins who look to satisfy their curiosity. The unconventional mola or sunfish is a highlight for many of our guests and we have had regular sightings of equally impressive Leatherback Turtles. Four of our seven catamarans are sailing catamarans, so we enjoy letting guests enjoy the true experience of sailing. We frequently switch off the engines and hoist the sails – conditions permitting – and encourage guest to partake in the sailing experience by helping to rig the lines and setting the sails.

Catamaran Dolphin Cruises
Welcome to catamaran dolphin cruises & tours, passion • excellence • purpose, many a guest has rated our morning ultimate marine cruise as the highlight of their visit on the namib coast, and in the whole of namibia for that matter – this is not difficult to believe as we have an absolute passion to take you out on a marine safari to see as many wildlife sightings as possible, and make your experience unforgettable our tours are based in walvis bay and its surroundings, and on the 3-hour and some 2-hour cruises, you may visit the splendid cape fur seal colony of pelican point peninsula., we often make a turn in the open ocean, and at times may visit the longbeach / langstrand area where the desert meets the ocean near walvis bay and swakopmund., our sunset cruises boast some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world the return with marine vessels lighting up together with the town is nothing less than breathtaking., included on each cruise or tour you are treated with beverages and canapes or a snack, which vary depending on which tour you book: there are beverage varieties, sparkling wine paired with fresh namibian oysters, a canape variety including dessert, or even a traditional namibian braai/barbeque onboard the catamaran (please see different cruise types in order to see what is included)..
Walvis Bay is the third-largest town in Namibia, and Namibia’s only deep-sea harbour which is also protected by the Pelican Point sand spit / Peninsula. Walvis Bay is well-known for its high-quality fish, oysters, rock lobsters, etc. The water of the coastal area is very clean. There are many tourist attractions around Walvis Bay, making it a perfect destination for a short fun-filled visit, or an extended stay with much entertainment to offer.
One should not forget to mention the huge salt fields around Walvis Bay. On an area of 3500 hectares, 400,000 tons of high-quality salt are annually produced. We are privileged to have some spectacular and wonderful attractions to visit in Walvis Bay. An excursion on the Sandwich Harbour 4×4 dune tour is also a must: with some of the most contrasting landscapes, you may ever have experienced. Take a look at our combo or half-day tours that will tell you more about this opportunity,
We believe that the ultimate unbeatable attraction in Walvis Bay is a luxury catamaran cruise to view dolphins, seals, whales, sunfish, jackals, pelicans, penguins, flamingos, many various other bird species and other wildlife possibilities. Although no wildlife sightings are guaranteed, our enthusiasm to find as many of them as possible is sure to get you excited to keep your eyes peeled with us as we anticipate maximum sightings every single day.
Our tours exude photographic opportunities for photographers from amateur to professional levels. Apart from the wildlife photography possible, Pelican Point Peninsula with its Light House is just one of many other surroundings making many photographers’ dreams come true.
COME AND ENJOY AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!
Our cruises and tours offer something for everyone.

Catamaran - Seal & Dolphin Charters
The Atlantic waters off the coast of Namibia are rich in sea life. The Walvis Bay Waterfront is your departure point where you set sail to explore these waters and discover all types of mammals and birds.
As you approach the Pelican Lighthouse, you will spot the local seal colony – it’s estimated that there are approximately 60000 Cape Fur seals in this colony. The lighthouse itself was erected almost one hundred years ago.
The Catamarans and boats that are used for these marine tours are all spacious and comfortable. There is ample deck space and indoor sitting saloons for those that prefer to observe from inside. All catamarans are required to meet strict safety regulations. Guests are served champagne, snacks and get to taste locally cultivated oysters while dolphins swim and frolic next to the boats. Guests onboard may encounter three different types of dolphins: the Heavy Side Dolphins, Dusky Dolphins and Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins.
Whales can be spotted between June and November on their migratory routes. The Atlantic waters have a high concentration of plankton which ensures that the whales spend time feeding in these waters. Mating also takes place during this time. Mating displays include tail-slapping, breaching and spy-hopping. Two types of whales can be spotted: the Southern Right and the Humpback whales. Bryde’s whales are also spotted.
Occasionally rare sightings of Leatherback Turtles and the Sunfish (also known as the Mola Mola) occur. You may also get to see the mighty Killer Whales (Orcas) with a bit of luck. The Seal & Dolphin Tours are a popular activity and appeal to all age groups.

STANDARD DOLPHIN CRUISE
From meeting with pelicans to viewing playful seals, and if luck permits, leaping dolphins and shy turtles - all this and more on our daily morning educational dolphin and seal cruises. We depart at between 08h45 and 09h00 (check-in 08h30) every morning from our Jetty at the Walvis Bay Waterfront for a marine educational sightseeing tour in the bay area in search of the marine big 5: Whales, Dolphins, Mola, Leatherback turtle and seals. While serving hot coffee and tea, our initial route takes us past oyster farms as we approach Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 60,000 resident Cape Fur Seals.
We round the point and head into the open sea. In season (July to November), larger mammals such as the Southern Right Whale and Humpback Whales are often spotted, while other whale species, such as the Gray whale and the Pygmy Right whale have made appearances. Bottlenose, Heaviside and Dusky dolphins are regularly seen, as are Sunfish and Leatherback Turtles. Accompanying our three catamarans throughout are a variety of seabirds, such as the Kelp Gull, Hartlaub’s Gull, Pelicans and Cape Cormorant. We hoist the sails of our four sailing catamarans whenever possible, switch off the engines and let our guests experience true sailing. Guests can even help in putting up the sails and rigging the ropes.
Our journey from Pelican Point takes us past some of the more interesting ships and oil rigs in the bay as we serve fresh oysters with sparkling wine, savoury snacks and desserts together with light drinks, cooldrinks and water. We return to the Waterfront at around 12h30.
MARINE DESERT ADVENTURE
The Marine Desert Adventure provides the ultimate combination of viewing our marine life on a leisure cruise on the Atlantic Ocean and exploring our fauna and flora with a ride in the breathtaking Sandwich Harbour Area of the Namib Naukluft Park.
The day starts with a marine educational cruise on one of our luxury catamarans at 09h00 (check-in at 08h30) in search of the marine big 5: Whales, Dolphins, Mola, Leatherback turtle and seals. While serving hot coffee and tea, our initial route takes us past oyster farms as we approach Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 60,000 resident Cape Fur Seals. Accompanying our four catamarans throughout are a variety of seabirds, such as the Kelp Gull, Hartlaub’s Gull, Pelicans, Skua and Cape Cormorant.
Our journey from Pelican Point takes us past some of the more interesting ships and oil rigs in the bay as we serve fresh oysters with sparkling wine, savoury snacks and desserts together with light drinks, cooldrinks and water. We return to the Waterfront at about 12h30, where your Sandwich Harbour 4x4 guide will meet you for your afternoon Sandwich Harbour excursion.
On the way to the Sandwich Harbour Area we stop at the Lagoon to view the flamingos, before we head towards the Kuiseb River Delta via the Walvis Bay Saltpans. Depending on the tides and the swell, we will try to reach the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon along the beach, one of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands and also one of Namibia’s five Ramsar sites. Alternatively, we will take an exciting dune ride to our lookout dune to get an aerial view of the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon.
We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography. We stop along the way to enjoy our world famous oysters, sparkling wine, drinks and cooldrinks. Depending on the weather condition, we do this on top of a high dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, on the beach, or amongst the dunes. The route homeward will take us past the area’s typical fauna and flora, including the endemic !Nara plant. Animals which have developed ways to adapt to the desert include the black-backed jackal, fog-basking beetle, dancing spider (‘white lady of the Namib’), golden mole, shovel-snouted lizard, palmato gecko, springbok, oryx, brown hyena and ostrich. We return to Walvis Bay at 16h30.
PELAGIC BIRDING EXCURSION
Few people realise that there is a whole new world of strange and wonderful birds just a few miles off shore of Namibia's beaches. The pelagic birds here rarely approach land, except at their remote and isolated breeding locations scattered around the Southern Atlantic Ocean. A pelagic birding excursion aboard our smaller powered double-hull boat to the continental shelf, between 20 and 25 nautical miles west of Walvis Bay, often rewards the visitor with an incredible density of pelagic birds. The abundance of pelagic birds reaches its climax during the winter months of May, June and July when southern breeding birds visit these nutrient-rich waters. Whether it is summer or winter, you will not be disappointed. Birds likely to be seen include several species of Albatrosses, Petrels, Skuas, Prions, Fulmars and Gulls.
We depart from our offices at the Walvis Bay Waterfront at 08h00 and head out of the bay offshore in a westerly direction. During the two-hour ride, while sipping hot coffee and tea, we pass Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 60,000 resident seals, and may encounter Bottlenose, Heaviside and Dusky dolphins, Mola, Leatherback Turtle or even a Southern Right Whale or two... We spend about two hours at 20 to 25 nautical miles offshore, where even the casual birder is bound to see a sprinkling of Cape Cormorant, Cape Gannet, White-chinned Petrel and Sooty Shearwater, Shy and Black-browed Albatrosses, with regular appearances made by Sub-Antarctic Skua, Northern and Southern Giant Petrels, Yellow-nosed Albatross, Wilson's Storm Petrel and Broad-Billed Prion. Our pelagic birding expert will point out and explain sightings.
During our journey back to the waterfront, lunch consisting of oysters, a variety of savoury snacks and desserts, accompanied by sparkling wine, light drinks, cooldrinks and water are served. We arrive back at the Waterfront at 13h00.

Our first stop long the way to the Sandwich Harbour Area the Walvis Bay lagoon, one of five RAMSAR sites located in Namibia. The lagoon forms part of the larger Walvis bay wetland area that is home to thousands of migratory birds. We will have the opportunity to observe large number of Greater and Lesser Flamingoes during out brief stop here.
From here our journey takes us to the Walvis Bay salt pans where 50 million tons of seawater is processed to produce 700 000 tons of high-quality salt. These pans form part of the larger Walvis Bay wetland area and measures 4,500 hectares. Moving past the salt processing facility, we pass through the Kuiseb River Delta in the direction of Sandwich Harbour. If the tide is low enough, we’ll approach the lagoon driving along the beach. In the event of the tide being too high, we will approach our destination by means of a route over and through the dunes. This exciting dune ride will bring guests to a lookout point on top of one of the high dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From here guests will have an unobstructed view of the entire Sandwich Harbour Lagoon. Once a trading port, the Lagoon is currently a protected area and another of Namibia’s five RAMSAR sites.
We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography. The shapes, colors and textures of the Namib dunescapes make it a most unique and beautiful landscapes that should not be missed by anyone looking for that special holiday photo. Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome and there is ample time to stop and take photographs. This area is one of the most scenic places on earth to photograph, so make sure to bring your camera and favourite wide-angle lens.
