CMN Yachts for Sale

CMN, Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie, is a French shipyard located in Cherbourg, Normandy. Since its foundation by the French aircraft constructor Felix Amiot in 1945, the shipyard has delivered over 350 vessels and began building luxury superyachts at the turn of the Millennium.

CMN employs approximately four hundred people, covering the various specialities required for the engineering and construction of luxury yachts and naval ships, such as in-house naval architects, designers and marine engineers.

CMN uses the highly sophisticated computer assisted CATIA system for the construction of its vessels; a technology specifically designed for modern design and shipbuilding. The CATIA software is also used in the aeronautics industry and is a powerful tool for the integration of complex systems, resulting in optimised internal space.

Accommodation arrangements are individually specified to suit owner requirements, with all the necessary integrated technology and adhering to any regulatory constraints.

Whilst best known in the superyacht industry for luxury motor yachts such as SLIPSTREAM and CLOUD 9, CMN remains on the cutting edge of naval ship design and construction, systems integration, training and through-life support.

CMN is able to build and refit sailing and motor-powered vessels up to 230 feet (70m).

History of CMN Yachts

The CMN heritage dates back to 1912. The shipyard was founded by the French aircraft constructor, Felix Amiot. Aircraft design and production gave way to shipbuilding, and the first vessel completed by the yard was a wooden trawler, which was launched in June 1948. Soon after, CMN diversified its offering with the production of minesweepers, Coast Guard vessels, fishing boats, barges, patrol boats and fast attack crafts.

The shipyard specialized in building vessels with the CMN patented ‘glued laminated wood technique’, particularly beneficial for minesweepers built for the French and German Navy. One of the yard’s major minesweeper series was the well-known CIRCÉ class Minehunters (the first one was launched in December 1970, and the following four came between 1971 and 1972). The glued laminated technique was the best answer to the desired ship qualities of non-magnetism, noise absorption and noise reflection.

It was during the 1960’s that CMN began to increase its construction of pleasure craft for the emerging recreational yachting market.

From the 1970’s and throughout the ‘80s, among other racing projects, CMN built PAUL RICARD for Eric Tabarly and KRITER IV for Olivier de Kersauzon.

As the luxury yacht market grew, along with the length of yacht requested by clients, during the ‘90s CMN undertook several notable projects of over 140-foot (42.5m) such as the schooner FRIDAY STAR, which was designed by Scorpio Marine, and the expedition yacht FRENCH LOOK II. FRIDAY STAR remains one of the largest composite sailing superyachts ever launched.

In 1992 the shipyard was taken over by Iskandar Safa, a French businessman of Lebanese origin. In 2007, CMN became part of Abu Dhabi MAR. This holding company, based in Abu Dhabi, is an international shipbuilding group with Iskandar Safa in the role of Managing Director and CEO.

The CMN collection

With the turn of the Millennium, CMN advanced into the build of larger motor yachts and custom superyachts, such as the 160-foot (49m) BERMIE II which was designed by The A Group and has a top speed of 16 knots. HELOVAL was another notable build (141 foot / 43m) as well as the 105-foot (32m) sailing yachts ATTIMO and LADY BARBARETTA. The latter, a catamaran, was acquired by British billionaire Richard Branson and renamed NECKER BELLE.

In 2003, CMN launched MARI-CHA IV. This was a revolutionary 145-foot (44.4m) racing yacht built using advanced carbon composites. Designed by the award-winning Philippe Briand to be “the world’s most cutting-edge racing schooner”, she set a circumnavigation record of six days, 17 hours and 52 minutes the same year.

Today, with the development of the CMN 60 line and three further notable launches – NETANYA 8, SLIPSTREAM and CLOUD 9, CMN has become a powerful name in yacht building.

The 197-foot (60m) CLOUD 9 was designed by Andrew Winch and the motor yacht can accommodate up to 14 guests, as well as 16 crew.

CMN – Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie – is a French shipyard located in Cherbourg (Normandy), which employs approximately four hundred skilled workers covering the various specialities required for the construction of luxury yachts and navy ships. Since the foundation of CMN in 1945, over 350 vessels in wood, aluminium, steel and advanced composite materials have been launched. Thanks to the experience gained in the construction of military ships and to its engineering, CMN realises technologically well advanced ships. The location of the shipyard and its military infrastructures guarantees an absolute discretion to the yacht Owners.

Charter Yacht CLOUD 9

Ambassador of luxury and French-style elegance in yachting, CMN manufactures the largest and most prestigious yachts in France. CMN is able to build or refit sailing and motor yachts up to 80m. The construction is done entirely under sheltered halls (48 000 sqm of covered facilities), on a total surface of 110 000 sqm. The yard is equipped with a slipway able to launch superyachts up to 50m, and has access to a 3000 ton Syncrolift (lift area of 32m x 90m).

JMV Industries, a subsidiary of CMN, is specialised in the construction in pre-preg composite (carbon laminates and nomex honeycomb) of high-tech racing yachts and multihulls. The shipyard is situated 3.30 hrs from Paris by car and it is accessible by private aircrafts via Cherbourg airport (Maupertus), which is 15 minutes from the construction site. CMN Yachts also has an office in the centre of Paris, nearby the Champs Elysées, and one in the South of France.

In 2009, CMN has delivered two 60m MY, Slipstream and charter yacht Cloud 9 . Motor Yachts Slipstream and Cloud 9 have cruised around the world extensively and have each covered more than 50 000 nautical miles and have been awarded 6 times:

Luxury Yacht PARAMOUR

CMN Yachts dates back to 1912 when Felix Amiot aircraft put Normandy on the aeronautical stage. However aircraft production gave way to shipbuilding and developing advanced high performance vessels was the driving force to develop the CMN shipyard into cutting edge technology. Computer technologies, engineering techniques and quality work hand in glove with the drive to compress build times and production quality and exceptionally engineered luxury superyachts. In the sixties CMN brought their knowledge of leading edge technology to the yachting industry with the construction of serials of Maïca, an 11-metre sailing yacht designed by Illingworth and Primrose. The 1970’s and 1980’s brought Paul Ricard for Eric Tabarly and Kriter IV for Olivier de Kersauzon. Built in 1989, the aluminium ice-breaking exploration (expedition) sailing yacht Antarctica illustrated CMN’s innovative approach. This unique exploration ship was used as a support vessel for the Transamerica Expedition end the Erebus expedition. With the luxury yacht market expending into larger and larger yachts in the nineties, CMN YACHT DIVISION undertook projects over 140’ such as the schooner Friday Star or the Expedition yacht French Look II. The new millennium saw CMN Yachts launching larger motor yachts like Bermie II and Héloval , and sailing yachts such as charter yacht Attimo and catamaran Lady Barbaretta.

Today, with the development of the CMN LINE 60 including  3  launches – motor yacht Netanya 8 , Slipstream & Cloud 9 - CMN YACHTS is becoming a powerful new bench marque in luxury yacht building.

There are many unique touches that set SLIPSTREAM apart, including Winter garden dining, a honeymoon-style Owner’s suite and spacious sundeck with all the features necessary for alfresco living at all hours.

Exterior Design

A glossy dark hull and steel grey superstructure makes SLIPSTREAM instantly recognizable on the water. Her sleek profile earnt her a top award at the Showboats Design Awards 2010, and her exterior is perfectly in-keeping with her remarkable interior design.

Interior Design

SLIPSTREAM’s interiors have also won prestigious awards, and it’s not difficult to see why when you step on board. A hand-carved trio of totem poles run through the centre of a black marble stairwell, connecting the yacht’s decks and catching your eye as soon as you enter. This striking feature sets the tone for the rest of the yacht, which borrows inspiration from traditional Canadian and Native American influences. The result is a polished ambience, which is still liveable and relaxed. Winch Design hasn’t shied away from bold reds and dark blacks, all offset by varied textures and rich materials.

Guest Accommodation

Slipstream's interior layout sleeps up to 12 guests in 7 rooms, including a master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 2 double cabins and 2 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 15 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.  

Her Owner’s suite is particularly lavish, with a scarlet, black and cream color palette creating a romantic atmosphere. The Owner’s suite includes an office, his and her bathrooms, walk-in wardrobe and a raised observation lounge with access to the foredeck.

Meanwhile, the VIP promises exceptional views, with large windows and a sliding glass door leading onto a private balconette. Four stylish double cabins are located on the lower deck, two of which can be converted into twin cabins for your convenience. The gym also converts to a seventh cabin with two Pullman berths and en suite bathroom, proving once again how versatile and flexible SLIPSTREAM is.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

SLIPSTREAM has an impressive sundeck that offers all the facilities you could want; a large jacuzzi, alfresco dining, a sleek bar, sunpad spread and barbecue. Every aspect has been considered; Glass windbreaks to allow for unobstructed views, an open-air shower and shading beneath the radar arch so charter guests can enjoy their meals out of the glare of the midday sun. The result is a fantastic and well-used space where the entire charter party can gather at all hours. 

For movie nights at sea, the yacht’s skylounge can be converted into a cinema suite. At the touch of a button, black-out blinds shield the windows and a screen materializes from its integrated concealment spot in a chaise longue. 

The yacht has an excellent gym set-up if you’re looking to keep fit on while on charter. Treadmills and weights overlook the water, providing a soothing setting for working up a sweat. When not in use, the gym can be converted into a seventh cabin for nannies, bodyguards or other supernumerary guests.

Performance & Range

She is built with Aluminium superstructure and Steel hull. She features an ultra-modern stabilization system to reduce roll motion effect and ensure the ultimate comfort throughout your charter vacation. With a cruising speed of 14 knots, a maximum speed of 16 knots and a range of 5,000nm from her 139,000 litre fuel tanks, she is the perfect combination of performance and luxury.

Set against the backdrop of your chosen cruising ground, you and your guests can enjoy endless days of fun on the water with the exceptional collection of water toys and accessories aboard Slipstream. Principle among these is a sailboat to bring out the explorer in you. Another excellent feature are waterslides for guests of all ages to enjoy. You'll be loving the huge adrenaline rush as you zip over the water on one of the two Bombardier WaveRunners. If that isn't enough Slipstream also features towable toys, waterskis, scuba diving equipment, wakeboards, kayaks and much more. When it's time to travel from land to see, it couldn't be easier with a 6.7m/22' Nautica Tender.

Slipstream and her crew are available for charter this summer for cruising within the Mediterranean. She is already accepting bookings this winter for cruising in the Caribbean.

SLIPSTREAM for charter

Famed for her show-stopping looks, the stunning, multi-award winning SLIPSTREAM is one of the most stylish charter yachts on the water.

An eye-catching black hull and silver superstructure offers a hint at this superyacht's striking interior. Rich notes of red, black and ochre work in harmony with the luxury yacht's native Australian and Canadian artwork to create spectacular living and entertainment areas. Linking these decks, a hand-carved trio of totem poles stand guard over the glistening black fossil marble stairwell.

Guests can enjoy the full cinema experience at the touch of a button in the sky lounge as black-out blinds fall and a screen unfurls from its hiding place in an elegant chaise longue. An air conditioned gym is available for the restless, with both exercise machines and a selection of free weights. Also on the bridge deck, a circular al fresco dining area is shielded by sliding glass doors, allowing guests to absorb the views on all sides while remaining sheltered from the breeze.

SLIPSTREAM's vast sun deck was designed with every comfort in mind; giant sun pads sit both forward and aft, a glass windbreak fits around the jacuzzi, and an open-air shower and glass-topped bar complete the six-star experience.

The VIP cabin on the bridge deck has some of the best views on board, with natural light spilling from a sliding glass door leading onto the private balcony. Four stylish double cabins are located on the lower deck, two of which can be converted into twin cabins upon request. The gym also converts to a seventh cabin with two pullman berths and en suite bathroom, if required.
