Are re-branded ‘Mk II’ models just an elaborate marketing exercise? Occasionally, yes. But a number of well-respected cruising boat builders are adopting the practice. We test the new first of X-Yachts new Next Generation series, the Xc45, to find out what type of improvements have been made to warrant these new badges

The point to consider with these evergreen bluewater cruisers is that there is little to be improved upon in terms of hull design that justifies the cost of building a new mould. It is more a case of breathing upon an established product to make it more practical at sea.

Can tampering actually spoil a well-established product? That was my biggest fear when invited to test X-Yachts’ new Xc45 Next Generation model.

The Xc45 was my ideal cruising yacht in 2007. And in truth, very little has changed with this Next Generation model. So it could be argued that the new branding is more a means of bringing the Xcs back into the public eye.

Thankfully the Xc45 Next Generation version remains a very user-friendly, inviting boat to sail, neither daunting in size nor heavy enough to exert worrying loads on the deck gear.

And, for a displacement cruiser, the she really is a remarkably pleasant yacht to helm. This freshened-up version serves to remind us that the Xc45 remains a very current, enjoyable design, and one with staying power.

Full Description

This stunning XC45 is in a transferrable LLC. She has a large sail inventory with light air sails as well as storm sails. In 2022 she was outfitted with a new main sail as well as a boom furler for easy reefing. The owners selected her as a fast and safe long-range cruiser, and she has been optimized to achieve that goal. Many custom rigging modifications have been performed and all conceivable safety items have been added. Additionally, an optional fuel tank was installed during construction such that total fuel capacity is 163 gal. 

She has all available electronics, including radar, AIS, ICOM VHF 605, EPIRB, man overboard monitoring and recovery, and much more. A six-person Viking Ocean Pro self-righting life raft is also included. The finest anchor available, the Ultra, was selected and is attached to 200ft of 3/8" chain, which in turn is backed by 100 ft of 5/8" 3-strand. 

Additionally, she boasts a full bimini that covers the entire cockpit, a dodger upgraded with isinglass, and sliding boom/sail cover which is easily deployed at the mast. Her three-stateroom, two-head interior layout is spacious, bright, and comfortable. This beauty will outperform every comparably sized cruising vessel on the market. The story behind this superyacht sailing along Oahu’s south shore

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Mystery solved. You may have seen this superyacht off the coast of Waikiki.

Anne Abaya snapped a photo and asked Hawaii News Now to find out more.

We confirmed the nearly 400-foot-long vessel is called the LIVA° .

Since last week, it’s been berthed at Pier 9, then Pier 2, and right now, it’s parked in front of Aloha Tower.

Reports say it’s owned by German-born, U.S. citizen billionaire Stephen Orenstein, who lives in Dubai.

He bought it for about $250 million and spends about $25 million a year to operate it.

No word on why the ship is here, or where it’s headed next.

‘This is unreal’: Bay City community shaken after man arrested in human remains case

BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) - A 40-year-old Bay City man was arrested in connection to the case where human remains were found at a boat launch in Bay City on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The remains were found at the Edward Golson Boat Launch, located at 1600 N. Johnson St., and included two arms and two lower legs, including feet, the Bay City Department of Public Safety said.

The department has identified the victim as 41-year-old Justie Stilwell , of Bay City.

Police said Stilwell had been reported missing by his family on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and his vehicle was found at a nearby park by his family on Thursday. He was identified through his fingerprints.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, police announced an arrest in the case.

About 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 25, detectives from the Bay City Department of Public Safety and the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Elm Street related to the case.

After the search, the 40-year-old man was arrested in connection to Stilwell’s murder. He has been lodged at the Bay County Jail.

Residents in Bay City were shaken following the arrest.

“I’ve lived in Bay City all my life. This is unreal,” said Ron Lesniak, Bay City resident. “We don’t need this. You know, Bay City’s never seen this. No, hardly any place around has seen this where people, this brutality of cutting somebody up. It’s sad. And all I can say is being here all my life, I can’t, I just, it hits me hard.”

Additional human remains including a head and torso believed to be Stilwell were located at a separate location in Bay City, police said.

“Everybody that knew him loved him. He was a very great person. You know, to do this to anybody, let alone him, is unheard of. And for his family, all I can say is peace, love, and just hope he’s in a better place, which I know he is,” Lesniak said.

Captain missing, 6 people rescued after fishing boat capsizes on river, officials say

HOOD RIVER Ore. ( KPTV /Gray News) - The captain of a fishing guide boat is the only person missing after the ship capsized Wednesday on a river in Oregon.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies responded to a call of a capsized boat in the Columbia River near the mouth of the White Salmon River around 11:30 a.m.

Officials said six people on the boat were pulled from the water and taken to shore. Two of those rescued were taken to the hospital.

The captain of the ship was the only other person on board. He is still missing, according to Hood River Police.

Investigators said the boat was a 24-foot North River fishing boat last seen in the area of the green navigation buoy near the White Salmon inlet.

The sheriff’s office has not released the names of the people involved out of respect for the families.

The investigation and search for the captain will continue.
