Monaco Yacht Show: The standout superyachts of 2024

Visit Monaco to admire hundreds of gleaming superyachts, moored in this coastal principality in the South of France for its annual yacht show

If you’re into superyachts – whether owner, aficionado, fan or follower of this billion-pound industry – from 25-28 September there is only one place to be: the Monaco Yacht Show 2024. For the 33rd time, Port Hercule will be packed with more than 120 of the world’s most spectacular, and many shiny new, superyachts, presented by international builders and maritime brokers. What’s significant about the new launches? What are the current yachting must-haves? How are designers and naval architects using tech and sustainable solutions to make these vehicles more environmentally friendly? This is the place to find out.

The Monaco Yacht Show is divided into zones; in addition to those which predictably house yacht-related equipment, service, interior design and naval architecture companies, there’s a Sustainability Hub and the Adventure Area. This last zone is where you’ll find luxury tenders (the small boats that service the big guns), water toys like jet skis and inflatables, luxury cars and motorbikes (this Luxury London writer once witnessed not one but three supercars being driven out of a yacht into the port in Ibiza ).

h3 superyacht

Of course, being Monaco, there are also multiple lounges for wining and dining, including seafood and Champagne bars, and – again, being Monaco – transport options that include boats, golf cars and helicopter shuttles. For those who can’t make it to Monaco for a glamorous, sun-soaked few days, or are just keen to imagine a luxurious life at sea, we take a closer look at some of this year’s highlights.

Burgess Yachts

energy superyacht

Where to start with Burgess’ stand-out show selection? Surely with Renaissance , making its show debut and, at 112m with space for up to 36 guests in 19 cabins, one of the biggest yachts to enter the charter market in 2024. Marvel at the huge spa deck – which has a gym, yoga area, plunge pools, steam room, sauna, two treatment rooms, and a hair and beauty salon – which guests can enjoy before retiring to the sushi bar or the 19-seat indoor cinema. Energy meanwhile, at 77.8m, has a nifty lift, a helipad, jacuzzi, piano lounge, hammam and sauna; the lucky guests in the main deck VIP suites have private balconies too. Nero has many notable qualities but we’ve mainly been imagining ourselves flying off the end of its huge inflatable slide into the azure waters of the Med.

renaissance superyacht

At 32.6m, and housing six guests in three cabins, sailing yacht Ribelle is rather more compact but no less beautiful. Its hull was constructed in carbon fibre and titanium by British race yacht builder Green Marine and she is in immaculate condition following a recent repaint of hull, mast and boom, complete with new set of cruising sails. Displacing just 90 tonnes, she is capable of speeds up to 20 knots in moderate conditions

Fast & Furious

The stats at charter broker YPI show that the appetite for luxury charters is far from on the wane; the revenue from its managed charter fleet is up 30 per cent year-on-year, compared to the same period in 2023, with vessels in the 20m to 35m category proving nearly twice as popular.

YPI is particularly excited to be exhibiting AB Yachts’ Fast & Furious at the Monaco Yacht Show, which is available to buy, should you be interested in any of the following: visits to secluded beaches and reefs, possible thanks to a shallow draft; outdoor entertaining on the wide deck or at the new upper deck bar; or excursions in the 12m Seawater Smeralda chase boat. Its name gives away one of its most compelling qualities too – it’s the fastest 40m+ on the charter market, reaching a maximum speed of 42 knots and making it quicker than ever to cruise between Cannes and Monaco, or Nice and Corsica.

Lürssen Yachts

Fourth-generation German builder Lürssen – which specialises in yachts between 60m and 180m – is showcasing new delivery Kismet , a 122m yacht available for charter. The headlines: eight cabins for up to 12 guests, a Balinese-inspired spa and clever tech, focusing on safety and sustainability, which include a heat recovery system in the generators for warming the pool water and ‘dynamic positioning for electronic anchoring in sensitive and remote areas’. Green-minded show-goers will be keen to hear how Lürssen is improving fuel efficiency, lowering emissions and reducing noise levels.

h3 superyacht

The star of Edmiston’s remarkable line-up is the world’s current most expensive yacht: the 105m Oceanco H3 , yours for €295 million. For this sum, you and 19 guests will be accommodated in luxury Reymond Langton-designed quarters, leaving ample space for 31 crew (resulting in quite the guest-crew ratio), a helipad, a hamman, a gym, a pool, a beach club area and an interactive video wall, which we’d guess becomes even more dizzyingly entrancing after a few cocktails. Oh the fun to be had at sea on H3 .

wayfinder catamaran

You can also admire Edmiston’s 68m catamaran support vessel Wayfinder from shipyard Astilleros Armon – its helipad doubles as a pickleball court – and the beautiful 2011 sailing grande dame Fidelis . Edmiston, an internationally renowned yacht brokerage company, has been going strong since 1996 and we’re pleased to see CEO Jamie Edmiston leading the way in terms of green innovation. In 2022 he launched a trailblazing collaboration with Levidian Nanosystems; its technology cracks methane into hydrogen and carbon, locking the carbon into high-quality green graphene. Watch this space.

Christie Yachts

Christie Yachts is exhibiting the remarkable Club M , which has all the Italian flair you’d expect from a Baglietto-built yacht and the awards to prove it: winner in the ‘Best Motor Yachts 40-50m’ category at the World Superyacht Awards 2021, and winner of ‘Best Motor Yacht Interior Design 499GT and below’ at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards 2021. We love the contemporary, elegant exterior by Argentinian designer Horacio Bozzo, and the distinctive circle-inspired aesthetic throughout the interior, from curved headboards, bar details and ceiling recesses to rounded sun loungers, Jacuzzi and seating areas. The master cabin, one of five, has its own balcony, skylight and a Portuguese rose marble sink, inspired by the craters of the moon. Why not?!

sanlorenzo 50steel

Sanlorenzo is an Italian yacht builder this writer has long admired and its 50Steel series takes the calibre of its creations to the next level. Thanks to an exclusive agreement with Siemens Energy, 50Steel is the world’s first superyacht to use a carbon-neutral Reformer Fuel Cell system; this significantly extends the time the yacht can remain at anchor without diesel fuel consumption. This covers about 90 per cent of a superyacht’s typical usage time with zero emissions, says Sanlorenzo, and reduces annual emissions by 20 to 30 per cent. No hydrogen needed onboard, which eliminates the associated sourcing and storing risks; instead methanol, available in more than 100 ports worldwide already, is stored and reformed.

sanlorenzo 50steel

50Steel’s main deck

Also notable is 50Steel’s ground-breaking HER (Hidden Engine Room) system which creates additional living space without disrupting the clean, elegant lines for which Sanlorenzo is known. Traditionally the engine room takes up two levels but, on 50Steel, the propulsion systems are arranged horizontally. Each of the five decks can then be arranged on two levels, a solution that surpasses the classic vertical deck division. The main deck has an extraordinary ceiling height of 3.7m, and there’s still room for two pools and a garage with a 7m tender, two jet skis and all the water toys you can imagine.

Sunreef Yachts

sunreef yachts

The remarkable 100 Sunreef Power 2.0 will be cruising into Port Hercule, complete with a 16m-wide walkaround beach club area with fold-out platforms to accommodate its 12 guests, as they make the most of the yacht’s water toys and diving gear. Oh and the two jet skis tucked away in the invisible aft garage, and an intriguing bespoke element; an enclosed cigar lounge with its own bar and 85-inch TV. We love the panoramic view in the nautically themed cabin, pictured above.

sunreef 100 power

Baltic Yachts

Big news at Finnish shipyard Baltic Yachts, which for more than five decades has been an innovator in composite monohull yachts; it is about to start the construction of its first ever multihull and new CEO Tom von Bonsdorff will be more than happy to chat about it at the Monaco Yacht Show. While you’re there, check out the Baltic 85 Mini Y , for sale via Edmiston and co-exhibited by Baltic Yachts in MYS’s sailing sector. Designed by Bill Dixon, this 26m cruising sloop (a sailboat with one mast and a fore-and-aft mainsail and jib, for those not used to yachting lingo) is notable for ‘her superb sailing performance, ease of handling and an innovative layout for just four guests’ which includes a spacious owner’s suite.

Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show always promises a stellar lineup— last year had an unusually large number of wild launches—and this time around will be no exception. More than 120 superyachts, including 20-plus that measure 200 feet and above, will be on the docks at Port Hercule, with beautiful Monte Carlo in the hills above.

Among the fleet of anticipated launches is the 400-foot Kismet . Built by Lürssen and launched earlier this year, this stunner will be shown before the winter charter season, at a weekly rate of $3.25 million. The vessel is sure to stand out, thanks to the large silver jaguar sculpture fitted under its bowsprit.

Besides bling, showgoers will notice the concerted push toward sustainability this year. Rossinavi has introduced the Seawolf X , its first hybrid-electric catamaran, and Nautor Swan’s sailing maxi yacht, DreamCatcher , is also its first hybrid. Sanlorenzo is launching Almax , its first 50-meter (165-foot) vessel with hydrogen fuel cells. It was developed with Siemens Energy.

Siemens is also sponsoring the show’s Sustainability Hub, which has become a breeding ground for eco-friendly concepts and new ideas to promote a greener superyacht sector. This year’s conference will cover alternative propulsion, outlining how it will be adopted over the next five years. The show’s Yacht Design & Innovation Hub takes a less technical approach to sustainability. It’s the place where leading designers and mainstream innovators converge, presenting vessels that will shape the future of superyacht design.

Here are 11 must-see boats at this year’s show.

Lürssen ‘Kismet’

monaco one yacht

The 400-foot Kismet is the most anticipated boat on display at Monaco this year. True to form, Shahid Khan’s third Lürssen, which charters for $3.25 million per week, will be an exceptional landmark in a marina of superyachts. Alongside its Nemo lounge for viewing marine life, a Balinese-inspired spa with the first chromotherapy bathtub on a yacht, and upper-deck dining options for 24 people, the vessel has a duplex owner’s apartment with two separate marbled bathrooms, a fireplace, and gilded wall coverings. When guests have had their fill of the DJ station and Bogányi piano, the ’80s retro matrix dance floor should keep the party going.

Royal Huisman ‘Special One’

monaco one yacht

Set to make a splash is Royal Huisman’s 171-foot Special One , the largest sportfisherman in the world. Commissioned by an experienced yachtsman and passionate fisherman, the monster sportfish is kitted out with a fighting chair, 22 fishing rods, insulated cooler boxes, and a dedicated bait-and-tackle room. The teak foredeck can transition into a sheltered private lounge area and also converts to an outdoor cinema. Designed by Vripack, the vessel offers up proportions and seakeeping capabilities that are matched by its impressive 30-knot top speed.

Rossinavi ‘Seawolf X’

monaco one yacht

Looming large above the water, the 140-foot Seawolf X is Rossinavi’s most ambitious build to date. The hybrid-electric catamaran is the Italian shipyard’s first multihull, which can stay in electric mode during transatlantic trips for 80 percent of the time. Even more impressive is the onboard artificial intelligence system—Rossinavi AI—which analyses the operation of the vessel, predicts the needs of guests and optimizes crew service and logistics. The interior is designed by New York-based Meyer Davis, with an exterior penned by Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design. Its wow features include a cockpit centered around a pool, a second hidden pool on the bow area, and an outdoor cinema.

Bilgin ‘Eternal Spark’

monaco one yacht

Eternal Spark is the first hull in Bilgin’s 163 series. In addition to six outdoor and three indoor lounge areas, the yacht can host over 100 people while at anchor from its five dedicated bar areas. Hot Lab’s use of wood inlays and embossed natural leather create a refined interior aesthetic, while the combination of a huge beach club, sauna, pool, and two cinemas—outdoor and indoor—should keep guests happy. Built with over 200 different materials, it shows how advanced the Turkish yard has become with its last few launches.

Sanlorenzo ‘Almax’

monaco one yacht

Sanlorenzo’s first fuel-cell-powered 50Steel model joins a growing list of yacht launches exploring alternative power sources. The fuel-cell technology converts biomethanol (green methanol) into enough electricity to cover the hotel load so the yacht can anchor all night without generators. Almax also has Sanlorenzo’s newly patented Hidden Engine Room (HER), located on the lower deck. This novel configuration creates enough interior volume to include a 1,615-square-foot beach club with a pool and unfolding sea terraces, while keeping the yacht below 500GT. The shipyard has confirmed the sale of four units to date.

Custom Line50

monaco one yacht

Making its global debut a Monaco, the four-decked Custom Line50 is the Italian shipyard’s new flagship model. The dedicated owner’s apartment on the upper deck includes full-height windows, a full-beam suite, and a large private terrace. The sun deck’s lounge seating, cocktail bar, uninterrupted views, and glass-edged infinity pool amplify the sense of being on a floating island. It’s an effective design that is replicated on the main aft deck. This area offers stepped access to the sea, a scenario that is reinforced by an aquamarine-and-cream interior color scheme.

Damen ‘Five Oceans’

monaco one yacht

The newest model from Damen’s Yacht Support 53 range, Five Oceans was built for Tommy Allen, an entrepreneur committed to ocean exploration and marine conservation. The vessel will be easy to spot in Monaco’s Port Hercules, thanks to its powder-blue, orange, and white hull. The custom build is Allen’s second yacht-support vessel from Damen. It has a sprawling aft deck to carry toys and tenders as well as a 15-ton deck crane for the launch and recovery of the electric boats and Triton 3300 Pro submersible. Five Oceans also carries an Icon A5 amphibious aircraft.

Tankoa ‘Diamond Binta’

monaco one yacht

Conceived as a world explorer, Tankoa’s 190-foot Diamond Binta blends a hybrid propulsion package with high-gloss finishes over a wooden interior. Penned by Francesco Paszkowski, Tankoa’s long-time design collaborator, the full custom build has an owner’s suite with a fold-out balcony, a forward helideck for shore-based excursions, a large beach club with a spa, and massage room as well as a sundeck with a gym and pool. A corridor on the lower deck connects the yacht’s five guest cabins to the beach area, passing through a viewable engine room.

Nautor Swan ‘DreamCatcher’

monaco one yacht

As Nautor Swan’s first hybrid yacht, the 88-foot DreamCatcher is described by the shipyard as a “no-compromise cruiser with a racer’s soul.” Designed for guest comfort with a maximum heeling angle of 20 degrees, its exterior is penned by veteran Swan designer Germán Frers, while the light-wood interior with gray accents is done by Misa Poggi. The aft cockpit has a new coachroof design with an integrated sprayhood, bimini, and modular benches that can be used for both lounging and dining. The stern area incorporates a large beach club area and tender garage. On the foredeck is the “sunset lounge.”

Oceanco ‘H3’

monaco one yacht

Built in 2000 as 312-foot Al Mirqab for a member of the Qatari royal family, the renovated H3 emerged from Oceanco’s facilities in 2023 looking brand new, with an extra 476 gross tons of internal volume. The vessel’s 33-foot extension—to accommodate the owner’s request for an infinity pool with a convertible dance floor and waterfall—and a fully replaced superstructure were enough for Lloyd’s Register to classify the yacht as a new build. A spa on the lower deck has a hammam, a sensory shower, a hair salon, and treatment rooms. The beach club with its rippled mirror ceiling offers stepped access to the sea.

Conrad ‘Extra Time’

monaco one yacht

Extra Time , the second hull in Conrad’s C144 series, has an exterior by Reymond Langton Design and naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design. The interior is by M2 Atelier. Much like its sistership Ace , Extra Time has a beach club, four guest lounge areas, a cinema, two bars and an infinity pool. Standout personal touches include an attention-grabbing King Kong sculpture in the main salon and the main-deck owner’s suite that’s accessed via a private study with an electric piano.

Monaco One: from Monaco to Ventimiglia at 45 knots

 • Gioacchino Ferrari
 • March 16, 2021

Monaco One is the new high-speed shuttle catamaran between Monaco and Ventimiglia

Monaco One official ceremony

The boat is a true concentrate of technology: built in glass/carbon sandwich, 12.00 meters long by 7.50 meters wide , powered by two Yanmar engines of 350 hp each , she has a range of 250 nautical miles and can travel from Monaco to Ventimiglia in just 15 minutes at 45 knots, carrying up to 12 passengers in absolute comfort.

The new catamaran combines a need for speed with a reliable and sustainable approach thanks to cutting-edge aerodynamic solutions that allow for fuel consumption at top speeds to be half that of conventional designs.

Monaco One Royal family

The “christening” ceremony was attended by HRH Prince Albert II, his niece Camille Gottlieb, HRH the Princess of Hanover, HRH Princess Stéphanie, Mr and Mrs Louis Ducruet and Miss Pauline Ducruet.

Aleco Keusseoglou, president of the Monaco Ports , welcomed the guests on the quay of the Yacht Club Monaco ( whose ample spaces allowed the strict observance of the rules to combat the pandemic,) with these words: “Today is a day of celebration for all of us. Our futuristically designed shuttle symbolises the hope of better days and we believe and work for that”.

Monaco One christening ceremony

President Keusseoglou also thanked Camille Gottlieb ” for accepting to be the godmother of Monaco One, we are all very honored. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that with Monaco One, SEPM will establish a partnership with the BE SAFE association , of which she is president. This association has a particularly noble purpose and we are very happy to offer our contribution.”

At the end of the religious ceremony officiated by Monsignor Dominique-Marie David, Archbishop of Monaco, and of the traditional rite of the bottle, duly broken on the hull after the ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by the godmother Camille Gottlieb, the Grimaldi family, accompanied by President Keusseoglou, boarded Monaco One to take part in the inaugural sea trip.

Attending the event were also the Councillor of the Liguria Region, Enrico Ioculano , the Mayor of Ventimiglia, Gaetano Scullino , the Mayor of Dolceacqua, Fulvio Gazzola, T.V. Carmela D’Abronzo, Commander of Circomare Sanremo, Marshal Giovanni Larizza, Commander of the Ventimiglia Beach Delegation and of Cala del Forte harbour, Gian Battista Borea D’Olmo, General Manager of the Ports of Monaco and Managing Director of Cala del Forte, and Marco Cornacchia, Director of Cala del Forte.

VESSEL REVIEW | Monaco One – Sleek 12-pax yacht shuttle ferry with 50-knot top speed

VESSEL REVIEW | Monaco One – Sleek 12-pax yacht shuttle ferry with 50-knot top speed

French builder Advanced Aerodynamic Vessels (A2V) has delivered a new high-speed catamaran ferry for use as a yacht shuttle by Monaco Ports Operating Company between Monaco and the Italian city of Ventimiglia.

Named Monaco One , the vessel features FRP and carbon composite construction and a unique aerofoil-shaped hull form that helps generate aerodynamic lift at higher speeds, enabling the craft itself to become lighter and therefore sail even faster.

"The patented concept of passive aerodynamic support allows a dramatic reduction of fuel consumption and improvement of comfort at high speed with air cushion effect," A2V told Baird Maritime . "Moreover, the crew need not possess any specialised skills or knowledge just to be able to operate the craft as its main controls consist only of a helm and two throttles, just like in a conventional catamaran."

Photo: Monaco Ports

Measuring 11.95 by 7.4 metres and with an operational draught of only 0.6 metres, Monaco One has seating for up to 12 passengers in an air-conditioned business class-only cabin. Even when at maximum capacity, total fuel consumption is at 120 litres per hour at high cruising speeds of up to 45 knots. That translates into 2.5 litres of fuel consumed for each nautical mile traveled.

"Seakeeping is exceptional at high speed, as the vessel is able to maintain speeds above 40 knots even when sailing through waves. In case of rough sea conditions or a technical problem, the vessel still retains its seaworthiness at lower speeds, behaving as a conventional catamaran would, particularly one with narrow hulls and a high cross-section."

A2V added that the concept for the hull form has already been validated for commercial service, as evidenced by two vessels of nearly similar design having sailed for a combined total of more than 30,000 nautical miles since becoming operational in 2018.

monaco one yacht

The builder said the unique aerofoil-shaped hull form was selected since it was thought to be the best possible means of providing Monaco Ports with a craft that was not only safe to operate but was also hydrodynamically efficient.

"We wanted to ensure passive stability through specific mass distribution relative to the centre of aerodynamic lift. As with our other newbuilding projects, the aerodynamic centre is placed aft of the vessel's centre of gravity. This means that when a gust or a wave increases lift on the superstructures, this reduces trim angle and therefore angle of attack and aerodynamic lift, creating a stable equilibrium."

A2V went on to explain that the traditional approach of placing the aerodynamic centre forward of the centre of gravity, like how it is placed on racing boats, would have made the equilibrium unstable at high speeds, thus raising the risk of the vessel flipping over.

Photo: Monaco Ports

The builder added that the vessel's unconventional appearance meant that some design challenges became inevitable.

"The challenge in designing the vessel was in keeping the weight low and well-positioned while using exclusively sea-proven, heavy duty equipment and offering a high level of finishing and comfort," A2V told Baird Maritime . "This required very close collaboration between designers, project managers, the vessel's owners, and operators in the yard to optimise the integration of each component. We were able to overcome this by continually monitoring the vessel's weight in the yard as it was being built, thanks to the placement of weight gauges underneath the hull."

The builder added that configuring the hydrodynamic shape to allow very high efficiency at all speeds and displacements was also a challenge, mainly because the weight carried by the hull varied from 100 per cent to less than 50 per cent of total weight depending on the available aerodynamic lift.

Power for Monaco One is provided by two Yanmar 8LV 260kW diesel engines connected to France Helices surface-piercing propellers and Arneson ASD8 surface drives via ZF 220 gearboxes and three-metre carbon shafts. Recently completed sea trials have shown that the ferry can achieve speeds of up to 52 knots with the aid of the unique hull form.

Photo: Monaco Ports

An interesting piece of electronic equipment is the Repcet onboard computer designed to track large forms of marine life such as whales. The use of this system enables the vessel to avoid collisions with marine life even when cruising at high speeds. Most of the other electronics including the radar, depth sounder, GPS, AIS, and plotters are from Furuno.

For added safety during dockings, a fixed fendering system supplied by Manuplas runs along the whole length of the vessel.

Monaco One is being operated by Monaco Ports subsidiary Société Monégasque Internationale Portuaire (SMIP) exclusively for clients with yachts that berth at Cala del Forte in Ventimiglia and the Monaco Ports-owned Port Hercule. Thanks to its high operating speed, the ferry can complete the 12-nautical-mile route between Port Hercule and Cala del Forte in as little as 15 minutes.

Sharing its name with Evian One, a sistership sailing on the Leman Lake since 2018, this new catamaran can reach speeds of up to 50 knots fully loaded while its 12 passengers enjoy the panoramic view comfortably seated in front of the vessel. Astonishingly, it boasts a reduction by half of the fuel consumption compared to conventional fast vessels. It is precisely this fuel economy that drew the Monaco institution to choose this unique and exclusive watercraft. In this vessel size, the A2V concept of aerodynamic sustentation offers the best sea-proven answer to the need for speed, comfort, reliability and environment friendliness.

Heesen reveals ambitious new 62-metre superyacht project at Monaco Yacht Show – Monte-Carlo

monaco one yacht

World-renowned Dutch superyacht builder Heesen Yachts debuted a daring new Steel FDHF 62-metre superyacht – codenamed Project Monte-Carlo , at their kick-off press conference at the Hotel Hermitage in Monaco.

monaco one yacht

One of the shipyard’s most ambitious projects to date, the yacht’s design by British studio Harrison Eidsgaard has been tailored to meet the requirements of modern owners who want to spend increased periods of time on board.

The four-deck yacht will be one of the yard’s largest yachts by volume ever built in Oss. Heesen’s CEO , Niels Vaessen, explained that the design is a direct response to trends they are currently seeing in the market. “It is unusual for us to build a four-decker, but we have had a few requests for such a boat from former clients, so it made sense to create one. We are addressing a key market of owners that are looking to maximise space and experience on board to share with family and friends.”

monaco one yacht

The luxury of privacy Optimising the increased space afforded by the four-deck design, Project Monte-Carlo will have an entire deck dedicated to the owners. Catering to a trend post-pandemic of owners spending periods of time working on board, the area incorporates both a lavish master suite and a spacious office area.

Designer Peder Eidsgaard highlighted that the owner’s deck offers supreme privacy and could be utilised in different ways depending on their reference.

“It is a very open master suite, with the bathtub, shower and office all interconnected,” he said. “The benefit of this arrangement is that an incoming owner can easily toy with the space devoted to each area. The potential is huge; you expand the master suite to include a private foredeck with its own sundeck, jacuzzi and a fold-down balcony to starboard. From his/her office, the owner can walk straight out onto the balcony and take a seat.”

The guest accommodation will be split across the main and lower decks. Eidsgaard’s design proposes a mix of up to five lavish VIP cabins and comfortable doubles.

monaco one yacht

Connected to the sea Project Monte-Carlo has also been created to allow owners and guests to feel a constant connection to the water. The design includes a large 23-square-metre pool, with glass sides giving the impression that you are swimming in the sea and fold-down wings on the aft deck that allow you to sit right over the water.

Other key spaces include a ‘beach lounge’ on the main deck, where low-slung sofas offer an informal dining area for up to 14 guests, with sliding doors again connecting the yacht to its surroundings. There is also a firepit observation lounge under the mast, an outdoor kitchen, and a semi-open sky lounge seating area, including a hidden pop-up TV for movie nights.

monaco one yacht

Holistic living Wellness is also of increasing importance to owners, and therefore, the design allows for a dedicated centre on the lower deck. Provisional designs for this space include a large gym, sauna, hammam and massage or beauty room.

The yacht’s beach club is also ideal for launching water toys, and its impressive storage will ensure that Project Monte-Carlo can be equipped with the latest toys available, including e-foils, wave runners and a diving kit. Additionally, the yacht has storage for two tenders, which are used for easy excursions back to the shore.

Sustainable planning Along with the rest of the superyacht community, Heesen is committed to a more sustainable future. In line with this and Heesen’s BlueNautech strategy , the boat is technically enabled for serial hybrid propulsion, with space for a large battery bank. It also has a methanol-ready tank layout for future conversion to hydrogen combustion or even a fuel cell. The fast displacement hull form is optimised for 12-knot cruising, but the power train can manage up to 16 knots.

“We see that our owners are increasingly interested in minimising their environmental impact,” added Peter Van Der Zanden, Heesen’s General Manager for Design & Development. “By planning the yacht around tried-and-tested green solutions, we are helping them make good decisions that don’t add much time and cost to the build.”

sanlorenzo’s 50steel superyacht with interiors by piero lissoni arrives at monaco yacht show

Sanlorenzo’s hydrogen-run 50steel at monaco yacht show 2024.

First introduced in May 2024, Sanlorenzo brings its hydrogen -powered 50Steel superyacht with interiors designed by Piero Lissoni to the Monaco Yacht Show 2024. It makes its way to Port Hercule for the international boat show together with the open-coupe SP110, after it docked at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 between September 10th and 15th, 2024. Gracing the Monaco port, the 50Steel yacht is set to stay there from September 25th to 28th.

The superyacht’s striking feature isn’t just the five staggered decks of the exterior designed by Zuccon International Project Studio and the hospitality-inspired interiors of Piero Lissoni. It’s also the fact that it’s dubbed the world’s first superyacht to apply the Reformer Fuel Cell system, a patented technology that the shipbuilder co-developed with Siemens Energy, which uses green methanol to generate the electricity that powers the entire vessel.

Reformer Fuel Cell system turns green methanol into hydrogen

In a nutshell, Sanlorenzo’s 50Steel superyacht’s Reformer Fuel Cell system with Siemens Energy transforms green methanol into hydrogen, then turns this hydrogen into electricity that powers the vessel. Usually, hydrogen needs to be stored, but in this yacht, designed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure by Zuccon International Project Studio , the fuel-cell system creates hydrogen from green methanol on demand.

This means it generates it when it’s needed, so there’s no need to store it onboard. The Reformer Fuel Cell system supplies the electrical power for the superyacht’s hotel-like systems, such as the lights and air conditioning, without the need to use traditional fuel like diesel. For Piero Lissoni, who worked on the interiors of the 50Steel superyacht, this may be his most creative boat because it uses hydrogen to power the fixtures in the cabins.

Piero lissoni calls sanlorenzo 50steel superyacht ‘creative’

The Italian architect, art director, and designer says that Sanlorenzo’s 50Steel superyacht is creative ‘because it no longer has decks, but rather areas that have been designed as true architectures, with large spaces that dialogue with each other. It’s creative because, when open, there’s a barrier-free beach club extending for over 135 square meters. And it’s creative because what was previously the engine room has now become a living area.’ What Piero Lissoni means is Sanlorenzo’s HER system, aka the ‘Hybrid Engine Room.’

It’s a new concept for the engine room on a superyacht because normally, it can take up to two levels of vertical space. In that case, the engine room uses up space that could’ve been for the passengers. With HER, the engines, components, and other mechanical systems on board are placed horizontally, so that they only take up one level (and not vertically). This frees up a whole extra level in the lower part of the 50Steel yacht, which the design team has taken advantage of by installing an ocean lounge with a large aft Beach Club, spa, and gym all in a single, open space.

Even before the visitors step onto the 50Steel superyacht, they can already see the five staggered decks with less partitions. The concept of hospitality is present, from the spacious salon to the dedicated gym and spa on the lower deck. The design team uses light and muted colors and materials to bring out the hotel nature of the interiors.

In fact, part of Piero Lissoni’s brief was to reinvent the classic style. He and the design team do so by placing coffered ceilings and dark-wood walls around the interiors, softened and illuminated by masked warm lighting. On the upper deck, the dining room sits in the middle of the space.

In total, Sanlorenzo’s 50Steel superyacht has four guest cabins and one for the owner. There are also two pools, one on the aft Beach Club and another on the sun deck. Going to the three upper levels, a system of stairs connects them all, a way to bridge as much space as the design allows.

Those who may want to slow down and look at the horizon can do so on one of the three open terraces that the design team has opened up for the visitors. When docked, the superyacht also doesn’t release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thanks to the fuel-cell system Sanlorenzo has installed for the vessel, trading diesel for green methanol to fuel its electricity.

Behind the breakthrough energy efficiency hide years of R & D and sea trials in high seas and strong winds, conducted by a small group of naval architects and computer fluid dynamic specialists with the ambition to explore a different path. The faster the wing-shaped vessel goes, the stronger the aerodynamic lift it generates and the lighter it becomes on the water, thus drastically reducing drag. thanks to this innovative aerodynamic design, fuel consumption has been halved, even when cruising at speeds of over 40 knots

Prince Rainier III or admire the incredible selection of marine life at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

Afterwards, stop by neighbouring Menton to visit Mirazur, a restaurant that was named the Best in the World for 2019. Then, pay a visit to the Val Rahmen Exotic Gardens for an afternoon of botanical bliss.

Head over to Nice for a day of sightseeing and walking the cobbled streets of the city, taking the time to explore the famous Matisse Museum and the pink palace of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.

Those looking to travel even further afield can stop by the spa at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes or take a boat ride out to the Lérins Islands outside the bay of Cannes , where you will find the famous Abbey and the superyacht hotspot of La Guerite, a beach club and restaurant on the island.

Superyacht PROJECT MONTE CARLO: Heesen unveil their brand new 62m yacht project

Written by Rachel Kelly

The Monaco Yacht Show has been the launch pad for many superyacht projects, and 62m PROJECT MONTE CARLO is no exception. Named after the principality’s main district, the project is the latest addition to Heesen ’s Steel Fast Displacement Hull Form series featuring exterior design from Harrison Eidsgaard and naval architecture from Van Oossanen Naval Architecture.

Superyacht PROJECT MONTE-CARLO

Superyacht PROJECT MONTE-CARLO

She is one of the shipyard’s most ambitious projects to date and will be a four-deck superyacht with a dedicated owner’s deck and a layout catering to owner’s who wish to spend extended periods travelling and working on board.

Design Peder Eidesgaard commented, “It is a very open master suite, with the bathtub, shower and office all interconnected,” he said.

The yacht has been designed to allow owners and guests the opportunity to feel connected to their surroundings and includes a huge beach terrace with 23sqm glass sided pool, fold out wings and superbly comfortable furnishings. Other highlights include a ‘beach lounge’ with sliding doors to the exterior, an observation terrace on the top deck plus an aft deck with firepit, outdoor kitchen and a semi-open sly lounge seating area with pop-up TV.

Wellness has been given priority in the beach club on the lower deck where guests can enjoy the use of a full gym, sauna, hammam and treatment room plus the crew can prepare healthy drinks at the cool juice bar.

Heesen is committed to a more sustainable future and in line with their BlueNautech strategy, the yacht has serial hybrid propulsion and a large battery bank. Future conversion to hydrogen combustion or fuel cells is also possible with a methanol-ready tank. The yacht will have a range of 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots.

“We see that our owners are increasingly interested in minimising their environmental impact,” said Peter Van Der Zanden, Heesen’s General Manager for Design & Development. “By planning the yacht around tried-and-tested green solutions, we are helping them make good decisions that don’t add much time and cost to the build.”

We look forward to keeping you up to date with superyacht PROJECT MONTE-CARLO as the project progresses.

Kostenpunkt: 89 Millionen Dollar.

Sørensen Yacht Wear launches at Monaco Yacht Show

Sørensen Yachtwear launches at the Monaco Yacht Show

Ahead of the preview of his new line of sailing attire and crew kit at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show , Belle Rice sits down with the Sørensen Yachtwear founder to hear more about his plans for his eponymous brand.

We all know that behind the glossiest of hulls and sparkling teak decks that are lining up in Port Hercules at this very moment lies world-class technology and up-to-the-minute engineering; hidden clean out of sight but nonetheless a crucial key to each and every boat's ability to tackle choppy waves smoothly and create a seamless sailing experience for an owner and their guests.

If there’s one thing fashion designer Wayne Sørensen knows, it’s how to effortlessly take technical performance materials and turn them into supremely stylish designs - albeit his field of expertise is found in fabrics and fit rather than tillers and transoms.

Founded after a lifetime of experience in designing and developing men’s and womenswear lines for brands including Calvin Klein, Burberry, and Orlebar Brown (where he was design director until 2015), Wayne Sørensen's aesthetic has, he says, “always been rooted in summer dressing”, and it was by chance in 2019 that he was introduced to a superyacht owner by a mutual friend.

After much admiration of his previous work, he was invited to design some crew uniform and as fate would have it, Sørensen loved the process whilst the owner was delighted by the resulting collection, meaning a slight change of course for Sørensen’s career.

Whilst he has now been asked to design bespoke crew clothing innumerable times, his pieces have also caught the eye of owners, who often want to wear something similarly stylish themselves. With a knack for crafting flattering pieces from breathable fabrics that never compromise on style or wearability – think ultra-lightweight cotton shorts with softly elasticated waistlines and concealed buttons, or the Burch dress, a classic 1990s-inspired shift dress with a timeless boat neck which was named for Come Together ’s chief stew Vhair Burchitt – it’s no wonder there’s demand from owners and guests to get in on the action too.

A few times now, “the owner has turned around and said, ‘I want to wear that piece’ as there’s a universal appeal.” It’s down to, Sørensen thinks, a duality where “form and function go hand in hand, and that establishes a bit more of a universal appeal.”

And it's easy to see why the new range has such a wide reach. Sørensen’s time as design director of Swim and Resort at Calvin Klein has informed the chic two-piece rash guard sets designed for both men and women, while his tenure overseeing Burberry’s menswear sports division has clearly given him a knack for producing designs that have, as he says, “style with a sense of purpose.”

With the majority of the collection made in Europe (only a tiny amount is sourced from boutique suppliers in the Far East), the brand stresses the importance of respecting both the planet and those that are crafting the clothing.

He's looking forward to showcasing the new designs around Monte-Carlo this week, where the collection will be on show on Thursday at the BOAT International Monaco Yacht Show stand for Happy Hour and a chance to meet the man himself.

His highlight of the show, he expects, will be forging friendships within the industry, sharing ideas, and “tapping into the brilliant energy that can only be found in Monaco”. Plus, he says, “reconnecting people with pieces that make them feel good about themselves in the world around them. I think that is very much at the heart of what we're doing.”

Meet Wayne Sørensen and see Sørensen Yachtwear on the BOAT International stand at the Monaco Yacht Show this Thursday 26 September from 5 – 6.30pm.
