The Galerna was built to entertain the Danish Royal Family in 1973 and over her illustrious career also bore other notable guests including Salvador Dali. The traditional Scandinavian design provides ample space and enviable comfort, while the beautifully crafted teak interiors offer a classical ambience.

Motor Sailor Galerna Specifications

The immaculate facilities include fully equipped cocktail bar, excellent sound system and music selection, dance floor, area for live jazz and a range of audio visual equipment.

Completed in 1973, the hull was originally constructed in Norway to rigorous Nautica Veritas Class, after which, the hull was towed to Sweden where it was completed as a pleasure yacht. Specially designed and constructed for the waters of Scandinavia, Galerna is an extremely robust and luxurious cruising vessel.

Yacht Accommodation

There is accommodation for up to nine, or more, in four separate cabins, each with its own ensuite facilities. The master cabin has a bath and large Swedish style sauna. Accommodations are commodious and private, with separate crew quarters and work areas.

GALERNA – A Peek Down Below

Todays 89’ woody motor sailer – Galerna, started life in Denmark where she was built in 1973, so falls into the ’spirit-of-tradition’ woody family.

In the top photo sent to me back in Jan 2022 by Richard Amery we see her berthed at the Viaduct in Auckland. How Galerna come to be in NZ I do not know but Ken Ricketts reports that she had a major refit by Titan Marine in Auckland in 2015.

Built to take a pounding, oak planks and frames, her hull measures nearly 14” and has a stainless steel ice skirt, all that plus a 5 cyl. B&W 550 hp diesel see her hitting the scales at 190 tonne. Galerna’s cruising range is 4000 miles at 8 knots.

From the photos sent in by KR we can see that she is equipped for expended cruising in grandeur. Can anyone tell us how she came to call NZ home?

Classic MY Galerna hauls out at Oceania Marine Shipyard

The 26M MY Galerna has hauled out at Oceania Marine’s North Shipyard at Port Whangarei, New Zealand. It is a quick technical stop to antifoul, repair some caulking and undertake some minor engineering repairs. The owners use the vessel as their private yacht. She is a real classic Baltic style boat built in 1971 and the overall description of her received from the owner is as follows:

The 30.75m/100'11" 'Galena' motor yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Moonen is available for charter for up to 6 guests in 3 cabins. This yacht features interior styling by Dutch designer Vripack.

Built in 2013, Galena's bespoke fittings and design ensure guests can explore the ocean's wonders in style and comfort. She is equipped with underwater lights and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Galena offers guest accommodation for up to 6 guests in 3 suites comprising a master suite, one double cabin and one twin cabin. The supremely spacious full beam master suite features extensive storage space provided by the dressing room. She is also capable of carrying up to 5 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

You and your guests can enjoy a variety of experiences on Galena, particularly a sauna to help you detox and regenerate. You can visit the well-equipped gym so that you can keep up with your fitness routine at sea and in addition retreat to the deck jacuzzi and soak up the scenery.

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you, particularly the underwater lights, adding spectacle and style after dark. With Wi-Fi connectivity you don't have to lose contact with the outside world, unless you want to and in addition you can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Galena is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 13 knots with a range of up to 5,500 nautical miles from her 36,700 litre fuel tanks at 9 knots.

Galena knows a thing or two about fun on the water, with an extensive selection of action packed water toys and accessories for you and your guests to enjoy whilst on charter. Take to the sea on a Jet Ski offering you power and control on the water. Additionally, there are towable toys offering fun and adventure. Discover the world beneath the surface of the ocean with the dive gear and compressor. If that isn't enough Galena also features a seabob, wakeboards, fishing equipment, inflatable water toys and paddleboards. When it's time to travel from land to see, it couldn't be easier with a 5.7m/18'8" Brig Tender.
