what our clients say
Testimonials.
The hard pitch was so good when it rained. Great clean amenities & all one could want to make out door breaks comfortable.
Loved the beautiful local pub, quaint church, cafe near by, plus the fact the river is so close (partners a barbel fisherman).
Amazing peaceful walks you could keep going for miles
Oh & the antiques & charity shops at Ross- Oh last thing castle Goodrich is amazing.
We will be back !
We stayed riverside in a motorhome and was pleased with our pitch, which gave brilliant views of the Canadian geese, swans and all the traffic on the river.
A couple of hundred yards walk from the van took us to the boats for a river trip with a running commentary which was interesting.
There is an amusement arcade, ice cream and plenty of space for picnics with tables. It is a bit tired but clean. We shall definitely return!
We unfortunately had to cancel our reservation and found the reception and manager totally cooperative in arranging a refund for ourselves and our daughter and her family.
There were not any of the usual disputes of being offered credits, just concern for our situation.
We thank them them for their help and support and look forward to staying with them on our next trip.
Absolutely beautiful site!
Owners couldn’t do enough for us on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. Toilet facilities are always clean and showers are much nicer than other campsites. Staff always smiling and welcoming!
Will definitely be returning and even booked in again before we left.
Don’t let other reviews put you off this great site! 😊

Symonds Yat Camping Guide | 4 Best Campsites [2024]
In this Symonds Yat camping guide, I’ll list the best campsites in the area. As well as some of the top things to do in and around Symonds Yat to make planning your camping trip a breeze.
Symonds Yat is a Wye Valley village close to the Welsh border. I return to the Forest of Dean and this Area of Outstanding Beauty year after year, not able to resist the beautiful Forest of Dean woodlands, majestic Wye River and the multiple activities on offer in the area.
There are two settlements on either side of the river – Symonds Yat West and East – linked by a footbridge and passenger ferries. You should note that there is no motor bridge between the two, so crossing the river in a car is a long detour. The village is perhaps best known for Symonds Yat Rock, which offers the best view of the Wye Valley. It really is stunning.
There are also tons of hiking and biking trails, quaint pubs and cosy cafes. Symonds Yat really is a great camping destination!
Best things to do in and around Symonds Yat
- Visit the famous Symonds Yat Rock – take in the views and keep your eyes peeled for Peregrine Falcons.
- Hire a bike for the day and follow one of the many brilliant cycle routes in the area. The Peregrine Path is one of the best!
- Go for a walk on one of the many Symonds Yat hiking trails .
- Get lost in the nearby Jubilee Maze hedge maze before visiting the butterfly park.
- The Wye Valley is one of the best rivers in the UK for canoeing, kayaking and SUP. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could even do a multi-day paddling and camping adventure .
- If paddling is too much effort, jump on one of the River Cruises to learn about the area and for some wildlife viewing.
Can you wild camp at Symonds Yat?
Wild camping is not legal in England (sadly), although the practice is generally tolerated if done correctly and with respect. It is possible to wild camp in the Wye Valley, although it wouldn’t be as tolerated as if you were in a large National Park.
For more information, read my guide to Wild Camping in the UK . Or, to be the most discreet wild camping in Symonds Yat, try bivvy bag camping .
How to get to Symonds Yat?
Because of its remote location, Symonds Yat is difficult to get to by public transport. The easiest option is to catch a train to Swansea (which has direct links to multiple cities) and get a half an hour taxi from here. This will cost around £40.
Alternatively, you can look into bus routes. But with few in the area, you’d need to combine this with a walk to reach the village.
For this reason, most visitors to the area choose to drive. And actually, driving to Symonds Yat is an experience in itself. The roads are winding, and you often end up being slowed down behind cyclists. But you won’t feel any road rage here because the roads are fantastic and cut straight through the Wye Valley with glimpses of the valley along the way.
XX Best Symonds Yat Camping Sites
Below, I’ve listed the best campsites in and near Symonds Yat. These campsites offer great facilities and a fair price for what they are offering. Staying in one of these will guarantee a great Symonds Yat camping adventure!
1. Doward Park Campsite
Website Distance from Symonds Yat: 10 minutes Dog friendly? Yes Note : only open April – September For : Tents and caravans Price from: £26 (pitch a tent)
Doward Park is a small family campsite located near Symonds Yat. The site is in a secluded wooded location and is small in size; you can look forward to a tranquil and relaxing stay. Charcoal or gas BBQs are permitted (open fires aren’t). And well-behaved dogs are welcome.
New facilities include a pot washing area and child-friendly toilets. And an adventure playground. This small family-run campsite is perfect for a Symonds Yat camping trip.
2. Huntsham Bridge Camping
Website Distance from Symonds Yat: 5 minutes Dog friendly? No Note : only open May – September For : Tents and small campervans Price from: £12.50 per person
The Huntsham Bridge Camping site is a great option for a relaxing, back-to-basics camping trip. It boasts a beautiful location right on the banks of the River Wye. This makes it an excellent base for anyone wanting to participate in adventure and outdoor activities.
This stunning and peaceful campsite makes you feel like you are in the heart of this Area of Outstanding Beauty. Although facilities are basic, they are clean and organised, and the sunsets and river views are next to none.
3. River Wye Camping Caravan Park
Website Distance from Symonds Yat: in Symonds Yat! Dog friendly? Yes For : Tents, campervans and motorhomes Price from: £11 per person
This site is much bigger than the others on this camping sites list, with 60 non-electric tent pitches available, plus additional fields with electric hookups for vans and motorhomes. This is the only campsite directly in Symonds Yat. The views and surrounding countryside are stunning, and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Facilities on-site include an excellent toilet and shower block, a small cafe and a reception.
4. YHA Wye Valley
Website Distance from Symonds Yat: 12 minutes Dog friendly? Yes For : Tents or you can stay in their bell tents, pods or hostel Price from: £10 per person
YHA Wye Valley would suit campers who might appreciate the extra facilities on-site and having indoor space to relax in should the weather turn against you. Pitch up on a large field close to the River Wye, with its own canoe and kayak launch jetty.
On the camping fields, you’ll have access to a dedicated fire and BBQ area, bathrooms, a self-catering kitchen and a lounge. The YHA Wye Valley has a restaurant and occasionally runs BBQ nights. You can also access on-site activities, from family fun nights to archery. This is one of my favourite options when camping in Symonds Yat.

Sterrett's Caravan Park
Sterrett’s Caravan Park and Campsite has been carefully developed over many years and is set in the beautiful Wye Valley at Symonds Yat West, Herefordshire. The Park is just one hour’s drive from Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. The Campsite is ideally situated for touring the many places of interest nearby or walking the country lanes to enjoy the panoramic views that surround the park. The River Wye is within 200 metres proximity to the campsite.
The Caravan Park is a mixture of static caravan pitches that are rented out to holiday makers, static holiday caravans which we rent out ourselves, a motorhome/camping site and a beautiful holiday lodge.

Sterretts Caravan Park Campsite Review, Symonds Yat West, Herefordshire
Sterretts Caravan Park is a campsite nestled on the banks of the River Wye. Situated in Symonds Yat West near Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, it is just 26 miles from our home town of Gloucester .
We spent 3 nights here staying in our Motorhome, with friends joining us in their caravan. Our stay in September 2020 cost £26 per night, for a grass pitch with electric hookup.
The entrance of the park takes you through the static caravan park which has been open since 1945. The park also has holiday lodges and two camping areas. Unfortunately the static caravan area was looking rather sad, but we soon understood why. Sterretts caravan park was badly damaged earlier in the year by flooding during Storm Dennis and renovations are still on going. In fact 4 new static vans were delivered the weekend we were there so hopefully things will be back to normal by early next year.
The site operates on a one way system and is very easy to navigate and check in was very straightforward. Once we checked a member of staff escorted us to our designated pitch.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Towards the back of the park there are two camping fields with e lectric hook. One predominantly for motorhomes and caravans and one for tents.
The caravan and camper field where our pitch was, is the smaller of the two. Facilities here include a single unisex toilet, fresh water, a washing up area, and an elson (toilet waste) point. This small toilet block is open around the clock however, you will need a code if you want to use the main shower/toilet area out of hours, and we were given the code at check in. The main shower block and toilet area is situated at the top of the larger camping field and is excellent both inside and out.
The pitches are quite close together so you have to be quite rigid with your parking if you have a awning on your van otherwise you might not have enough room to fully extend it.
All the pitches are grass but are fairly flat so getting your camper van, motorhome or caravan level is pretty straightforward.
Our only real criticism of this area is that you are overlooked by a row of very tall trees meaning you do lose the sun quite early in the afternoon (we stayed here in September).
Other features on the site includes a children’s play area which is situated between the two camping fields, an amusement arcade, a burger van, and coffee shop, there is also a pub which shows a selection of live sport, all the facilities operate on a cash only basis which we found a bit odd given the current climate.
One other thing that is available which is well worth a try is a boat trip on the river Wye, we did this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Make sure you check out our vlog here which shows you this area of outstanding beauty and the walks available. The Ferry Inn which is the oldest pub on the River Wye, is about a 20 minute walk away and a further 40 minutes gets you to the Biblins.
Apart from the facilities on site there are also plenty to do on your doorstep, cycles and canoes are available to hire giving you more exploring options.
The Biblins provides back to basics outdoor experiences for children and young adults, they also provide camping equipment for an authentic outdoor camping experience.
Just like Sterretts campsite the Blblins was also seriously affected by flooding with the famous Biblins bridge being almost completely decimated, this however has now been fully restored.
Other points of interest for Netflix fans is the series called “Sex Education” used various locations around Symonds Yat including Sterretts Caravan Park and the famous “Sex Education “ house can be clearly seen on your walk to the Biblins, there is so much to see and do in this area that we barely scratched the surface so a return trip is definitely be in order!
Save to Pinterest for Future Reference!
This campsite is in a stunning location, we would definitely stay here again, and recommend that you do too!
For more information do check out Sterretts Caravan Park website here and watch our vlog series below which includes a full tour of the campsite.
