We're looking forward to seeing everyone for our annual Opti Regatta!

Boats can be dropped off beginning Tuesday at 1:30pm.

Trailer Parking:  Trailer parking is available at Cape Cod Academy who generously host our trailer lot for the summer.  The address for the trailer specific lot is 1374 South County Road, Osterville, MA 02655.  There will be maps to the trailer parking lot available at the venue.  

Car Parking:  We wlll have a nearby lot for cars to park in.  This is located in the nearby marina across the bridge, not across the street.   There will be a drop-off area on site for sailors and gear.  There will be maps to the parking area available at the venue.

Hello Sailors and Families!

Thank you for registering for the 28th Annual Stone Horse Opti Regatta on Monday, July 15th. This event is always a highlight of our summer, and we are looking forward to another wonderful day out on the water. Please check out the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for a full list of important logisitcs. Below are a few quick points:

• For those in the Green Fleet, the Wianno Sailing Foundation has generously offered to cover the cost of all participants. We are so grateful for their commitment to promote junior sailing. Green Fleeters still need to go through the registration process, the fee will simply show as $0.
• Sail Numbers: When you register, please be sure to list the correct sail number. If you don't know it at the point of registration, or you need to change it before the regatta, please do so via ClubSpot by July 13. When listing boat names, please only use letters or numbers, no symbols (hyphens are ok).
• This event will be capped at 100 sailors. 
• Water, Snacks, and Lunch: ALL SAILORS SHOULD BRING A REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE TO THE REGATTA. At check in, sailors will be provided with snacks for his or her time on the water. When the sailors return to shore following racing, there will be a BBQ lunch provided for partcipants and their coaches. For everyone else, our snack bar will be open (cash only please).
• Allergies: If your sailor has any food allergies, please send along food for them, as we cannot guarantee our food will be allergy free. 
• Car Parking - There is no parking the Stone Horse Yacht Club parking lot the day of the regatta. Cars left in the SHYC lot will likely be towed. Car parking is available at the top of Harbor Road in the parking lot behind the Christ Episcopal Church, please follow signs there indicating which spaces are available to our regatta participants. If that lot is full, you can park your car at the public lot near Saquatucket Harbor right down the road.
• Powerboat Launching - You may not launch any powerboats from Stone Horse Yacht Club or HarwichPort Boat Works within Wychmere Harbor. You may launch a powerboat from the town ramp at Saquatucket Harbor off Route 28. You will be charged a $10 daily use fee. If you launch a powerboat on this ramp, you may park you trailer in the Saquatucket main lot.
• Opti Trailer Unloading - We encourage all clubs to unoad your optis the night before the event (Sunday, July 14) after 4pm. Green fleet optis can be stored on the beach (make sure to note the high tide line) and champ fleet should find a space in the sectioned off areas of the parking lot. No optis are allowed to be rigged or kept on the boardwalk down to the beach or the space alongside it. For those of you who cannot unload boats the day before, you will bring your trailer down the morning of and staff will direct you where to unload.
• Opti Trailer Parking- Parking lot volunteers will assist with where to leave opti trailers

Regatta and Racing Information

The BSS Race Team — both Optimists and 420s — participates in several sponsored regattas each season. Regattas provide wonderful opportunities for students to race competitively and meet sailors from neighboring clubs. At the discretion of the racing coach, and in accordance with specific guidelines, selected sailors will participate in regattas. Race team members may vary weekly, depending on student enrollment, skill, and interest. We do not guarantee that every student will attend regattas. Coaches will accompany racers to certain identified regattas, and racers may use BSS boats and equipment. Sailors/parents are responsible for paying regatta fees directly.

Opti Race Team – sailors typically compete in the following:

• Unkie Cup Regattas – a series of four regattas, held on Wednesdays in July and August, organized by Buzzards, Chappaquoit, Megansett, Quissett, and Wild Harbor. Regattas rotate between clubs.
• Scituate Yacht Club Junior Regatta
• Wianno Yacht Club Junior Regatta
• Beverly Yacht Club Junior Regatta

Opti Green Fleet – our youngest first-time racers will race in a few age and skill-appropriate regattas.

420 Race Team   – depending upon skill-level sailors may compete in the following:

• Edgartown Yacht Club Junior Regatta
• Gill Trophy
• SMSA Team Racing Championship
• Vineyard Haven Yacht Club Junior Regatta
• Wild Harbor Invite
• And others…(NBJR, Falmouth, Hyannis, etc.)

Wianno Senior Class

Interclub Racing Historical Note

Wianno Seniors have been competing in inter-club races on Nantucket Sound, beginning with the Edgartown Yacht Club Regatta, since 1928. In addition, the regular series races held off the Wianno Club in the 1910’s, 20’s and 30’s often drew fleets of 40 boats or more (divided into two divisions) from several yacht clubs.

The Long Distance Race, sponsored annually since 1916 by the Wianno Yacht Club, is the oldest race in which Wianno Seniors have competed continuously. From 1916 to 1927, the race was sailed from Wianno to Falmouth Heights. Since 1928, contestants have raced from Wianno to Edgartown.

In 1949, The Frederic F. Scudder Memorial Trophy was placed in competition. The Trophy is awarded each year to the Wianno Senior skipper having the highest average combined points in SMSA-sponsored regattas on Nantucket Sound for Wianno Seniors. In 1949, four Regattas invited participation by Wianno Seniors, those of the Edgartown (2 races), Nantucket (2 races), Stone Horse (1 race) and Hyannis (2 races) Yacht Clubs. Over the years various races have been added to and dropped from the Scudder Cup schedule. 1954 was the last year in which Wianno Seniors competed in the Nantucket Yacht Club Regatta, and 1958 was the last year (until 1990) in which Wianno Seniors participated in the Hyannis Yacht Club Regatta as part of the Scudder Cup Series. In 1955, the Bass River Challenge Cup was placed in competition on the Sunday immediately following the Stone Horse Yacht Club Regatta. In 1959, the Wianno and Hyannis Port Yacht Clubs sponsored their first inter-club Regattas. From 1959 until 1989, the Scudder Cup Series consisted of the two races held at the Edgartown Regatta, and one race each sponsored by the Stone Horse, Bass River, Wianno and Hyannis Port Yacht Clubs. Following the 1966 season, the Wianno and Hyannis Port Yacht Club races were combined into a single two-day regatta held in alternating years at the Wianno and Hyannis Port Yacht Clubs, in order to eliminate the need for crews to sail from one Club to the other on the same weekend. A similar arrangement was made between the Stone Horse and Bass River Yacht Clubs. In 1989, Stone Horse Yacht Club formally withdrew as a Scudder Cup Series sponsor and the Hyannis Yacht Club became a sponsoring Club. In recent years, Stone Horse has again served as an occasional rotating host.

In addition to the Scudder Cup Series races, there have been several other inter-club races over the years, including the Long Distance Race, sponsored by the Wianno Yacht Club, sailed annually since 1916, the Max Crosby Race sponsored each June since 1973 by the Wianno Yacht Club, the annual team races between the Wianno and Hyannis Port Yacht Clubs, held from 1936 until 1969, and the race from Hyannis Port to Harwich Port or Bass River sponsored occasionally by the Hyannis Port Yacht Club since 1960.

The Junior Sailing Program is dedicated to teaching kids seamanship and how to sail in a fun and encouraging environment. Club-owned boats include Optimists, 420s, Vanguard V-15s, RS Fevas and Crosby Fast Cats which are used in our sailing programs. We offer classes for novice and advanced sailors alike ranging in age from 6 to 18.

There are a number of active racing fleets here as well from Wianno Seniors to our own FAB Racing (Family All-Boat) which includes everything from V-15s to Dough Dishes.
