Vaucluse yacht club, watsons bay wedding.

I knew these two legends years ago through an old workplace, and was beyond chuffed to be asked to capture their Sydney Harbour front wedding on the shores of Watsons Bay. Vaucluse Yacht Club provided the perfect harbour backdrop for a casual, natural wedding ceremony that was a pure delight to photograph, full of heartfelt moments, laughs and stunning Sydney scenery.

This was a masterclass in doing it your own way.

Liv and Nick had not one, but two ceremonies. A registry quickie at the Old Clare for immediately family and the closest of friends (and to you know, make it legal), followed by beers and champagne and chips at the pub downstairs. Then a bus and a ferry across to Watson's Bay for a big emotive celebration run by one of their best mates for all and sundry. A decadent meal was had. Speeches were spoken. A few dress up boxes opened up at the end of the night for an outrageous disco DF. It was joyful. It was unique. It was, to be honest, a little rogue in the best of ways. Romantic party RSL vibes with cracking grub and drinks I believe was pretty close to the brief.

And all of this is literally nothing to say of the wildly beating heart at the centre of it all. These two have been together over 9 years. They met at that bastion of life long romances, schoolies, where Nick immediately fell completely and utterly in love with Liv from the get go to the point he even gave her a nickname so he could talk about her in code - Grace Van She. Grace for Grace Kelly, Van She for the mid 2000’s electro band Van She (incidentally for a teenage kid on schoolies to come up with this nickname alone I think speaks volumes about Nick - old school romantic meets larrikin party boy). Liv, for her part, didn’t even register meeting him or was even remotely aware of the effect she had upon him when they reconnected a few years down the track, after Nick had spent a few years lamenting over his loss.

These are two people who clearly bring an incredibly rare combination of stupendous amounts of joy, thoughtfulness and introspection into, not just each other, but every relationship they have. How. Freaking. Glorious.

Vaucluse Yacht Club Functions & Events – Celebrate that special event on the most beautiful harbour in the world! The Vaucluse Yacht Club is available for functions such as weddings, birthday parties, corporate functions and similar events. The Club is situated on the Eastern Shore of Watsons Bay and faces west. It offers wonderful views across Sydney Harbour to the skyline of the city. It is a most fantastic sight to watch the sun set behind the city, while the skyline lights up, with the lapping of water beneath your feet. It contains a commercial refrigerator, oven and cook top and provides ample counter space for the preparation and serving of food and drinks. BBQs are available for use on the verandah. Bar tables and chairs are available and are included at no additional expense. Full separate male and female toilets are located in the boat storage area adjacent to the clubroom.

Sasha and Paul’s Wedding at Vaucluse House

It is amazing to see two people so openly in love. And it is even more amazing to see so many guests so overwhelmingly happy for the couple too. This wedding was partly organised by Sasha’s mum Vicky and what an incredible effort. There were so many brilliant ideas – a dumpling bar at the reception, an amazing 6 piece band to get everyone moving and a family heirloom formed an integral part of the ceremony. Vaucluse Yacht Club

The Vaucluse Yacht Club is located in the harbor side suburb of Watsons Bay in Sydney, Australia and was the first club to race the Vee-Jay and Vee-Ess sailing vessels. Today they are a continuous force in the sailing community and offer highly competitive racing in the Sydney Harbor.

The Club essentially began in 1930, when Sydney’s leading Gun Smith Sil Rohu and Navel draftsman Charles Sparrow designed the first Vee-Jays – short for Vaucluse Junior – which was a sailing vessel designed to be sailed by two people under the age of 17.

The Vaucluse Amateur Sailing Association (V.A.S.A.) was established in 1932, shortly after the Vee-Jays were launched. This was the same year that the Sydney Harbor Bridge was opened. Members helped to build the first Vee-Jay prototype dubbed the “Splinter” to test their new sailing vessel on the water.

The Vee-Jays were smaller dinghy’s and soon V.A.S.A. found there was demand for a father-son boat. Charles Sparrow took to the drawing board and designed the Vee-Ess – short for Vaucluse Senior – in 1936 which was 3.5 feet longer than the Vee-Jay and could hold a crew of three people over the age of 18.

Members of V.A.S.A. originally had their Vee-Jays and Vee-Ess stored in “McKlellans” boat shed at the south end of Kutti Beach when they weren’t racing. However, V.A.S.A. soon outgrew McKlellans, and the “Vaucluse Amateur Sailing Association (Vaucluse Branch)” was opened in October 1939 to house the existing fleet in Marine Parade by Eric Harrison – the Postmaster General at the time.

By 1940, a fleet of 44 vessels were racing out of the club, with an active membership in excess of 100. Shortly after World War II, one hundred Vee-Esses were built in Sydney and shipped to Japan for use by the Australian Occupation Forces.

Advancing technology created faster boats over the years, and the Vee-Jays and Vee-Esses were finally retired from the V.A.S.A. fleet in 1972. Today the Yacht Club continues to hold competitive racing and training, but they now race in small one-man skiffs known lasers, and larger yachts.
