Boat: Beebe Passagemaker 50' | It has been continual from the day they opened until today. It is really pretty simple. Do not say or even infer you are building what you are selling. It is dishonest and that is a game stopper for me right out of the gate. Some folks can block this inconvenient truth and order anyway. Even better it seemed, because folks from their loft were going to be in where they had several customers all ordering new sails, they offered to take the measurements themselves for all of these while they were in the area, mine included. Sounded great. Indeed the did arrive three weeks before I was due to depart, however the sail was fully THREE feet too long in the luff and about 9" too long in the foot (quite the "precision" that was). I sent it back, asked for a refund, which they refused to offer and instead said they would get me a properly cut sail by my departure date, now using my measurements of course. The sail did arrive, cost me a week's delay, and was still two inches longer in the luff than I had specified. Worse, the shape was perfectly horrible, resembling as delivered what you would expect with a blown out sail years beyond its date. I ended up using the old sail which had a far better shape though 12 years old, than the new sail from Precision. When I got back home several months later my old main really was at the end of its life, so I bent on the Precision main again and enjoyed the experience of seeing it stretch even worse with light use until I took it to the local Ullman loft. Ullman did an excellent job in recutting the sail so that my boat could actually go to windward with that main better than the replica 16th century galleon I also sail frequently. That was two years ago and so far it hasn't blown out of shape so I'm happy thus far. The total cost ended up being about the same as if I had Ullman build the sail to begin with and I'm pretty sure they would have done a much better job on other details of construction, such as actually triple stitching seams instead of just for that feature and not doing it. I've bought other sails on line over the years and been satisfied, but I've decided that from now on with yacht sails its just a more certain process and more value to deal directly with a local loft that resides in the community it services. | | | 21-12-2021, 06:11 | | Boat: Morgan Out Island 41 | 21-12-2021, 10:42 | | Boat: Jeanneau 349 | | | | 21-12-2021, 10:45 | | Boat: Rafiki 37 | | | | 21-12-2021, 10:55 | | Boat: Moody 31 | Thread Tools | | Rate This Thread | : | Posting Rules | post new threads post replies post attachments edit your posts is are code is are are are | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | | Gdog6 | General Sailing Forum | 16 | 11-11-2021 11:03 | For Sale: | Slainte40 | Classifieds Archive | 4 | 23-04-2011 11:59 | For Sale: | ribbony | Classifieds Archive | 6 | 22-02-2010 19:28 | | Jack Long | General Sailing Forum | 5 | 13-08-2008 23:41 | Privacy Guaranteed - your email is never shared with anyone, opt out any time. - Forums New posts Unanswered threads Register Top Posts Email

Precision 21' - self righting ?- Thread starter Bluenoser

Purchased a 98 Precision 21' and having lots of fun but am a little concerned about what might happen if I get heeled over a little too far in a good wind gust. Grandkids just like to hang out in the cabin, so I'm thinking maybe they shouldn't be in there in strong winds. Any comments are greatly appreciated. It will round up into the wind assuming you are over canvased, nobody will be happy and people could get hurt being thrown from one side to the other. I would not sail in sporty conditions first with small kids, and I would already have my main reefed and keep a hand on the travler line. How much can I push a precision 21?Bluenoser said: so I'm thinking maybe they shouldn't be in there in strong winds. Thoughts on the Precision 23I have been looking and researching many different kinds of boats, from daysailers to pocket cruisers up to 26 feet in length. One that has caught my attention is the Precision 23. It is a trailerable pocket cruiser, weighing 2495 lbs dry. With trailer and 500lbs of gear, could weigh in at 4000 lbs, within reach of a mid-size SUV or truck. Reviews that I have read state that mast stepping can be done by one person (better with two people) in less than 30 minutes, and launching and retrieval are relatively easy. Does anyone on these boards have any experience, or knowledge of the Precision 23, and what would you see as its strengths and weaknesses. Is this a good boat for weekend cruising? Thanks in advance. You could do a lot worse than a Precision 23. They are well built and well laid out pocket cruisers. And don't forget to check the boat reviews. Top Contributors this Month | | | | | | |

Merit 22- Oregon lakes. Jun 11, 2017. #1. I'm afraid I may have to sell my beloved Victoria 18 soon, as my wife just doesn't feel comfortable in it. the Vic is only 5.5' wide, so it is initially tender. With the 550b keel it firms up solid as a rock beyond 15* or so, but she just doesn't feel secure in it regardless.
14. Precision P23 perdido key florida. Jan 16, 2012. #1. I recently purchased a 2005 Precision 23. Took it out for our first sail this past weekend. I think the precision 15 fits the bill pretty good. The only thing I'm not sure of is if I should get the keel or centerboard version. The center board draws 3' 8" and the keel 1' 9". I don't have a depth problem at any local lakes with either boat. The keel will be harder to launch, but still should be pretty easy at normal boat ramps and will ...
Precision makes nice boats... By the square footage their layup is lighter than a Catalina, and ever so slightly so than a Hunter. They have a reputation as a good boat builder though, I've been on their 15, 165, and 18 (and 23) and found them to be nice sailing boats, and generally less expensive than Hunter or Catalina.

Great discussion with the designer after submitting the measurements. The entire process was efficient and resulted in great sails for my boat.

If you check the sailboatdata site you will find information on the Precision models and many other sailboats. Notably, the 185 hull had been built in two different designs: a Centerboard model which (I think) has a very light centerboard like the Precision 18 we owned and a keel model with 3.5 ft draft and 375 pound ballast.

I believe it is an older model since the hatch is on the foredeck rather than on the bulkhead on the front of the cockpit as show on the current website but the rigging and sails appear to be in pretty good shape. The current owner has had it 4 ...

Jun 8, 2004. 10,185. -na -NA Anywhere USA. Jul 16, 2015. #3. AS a former dealer and owner of a Precision 15, it in many ways has more room than longer daysailors and is built well. Heeling no more than 12 degrees, you will go fast as there is less wetted surface or friction when sailing flatter vs. heeled way over.

The Seaward has more room than the Precision, but the Precision is arguably a more performance oriented boat. However, "more room" is subjective.
