Tiara Yachts ???? Good/Bad?

  • Add to quote

Just curious if anyone knows much about Tiara Yachts??? Just starting to look & wondering if this would be a good offshore boat....either a 37ft or 42 ft. www.tiarayachts.com Thanks

There are better pure fishing boats, cruising boats, custom boats ect... But the Tiara is one of the best production boats on the market, and its good, not great, for all of the above.

tiara yacht forum

Just make sure what ever you do, go deisel or you will be spending $500 + in fuel just to get to 50 fathoms. Heck I went out on a friends brand new 27ft Albemarle with twin 350's & ran 65nm trolled & came back. The fuel was over 180 gals. Now add an extra 10 ft in length + 2-3 ft in beam to your resistance. Were talking 230 -260 gals min. IMO the best fishing boat is a well equiped 31 & up single diesel with tons of room for accsess to all equipment. A well maintained diesel engine & some spare parts & tools will get you there & back day after day. With this set up you would expect a reasonable cruise of 19-26 nts with a burn rate of 10-18 gal an hr dep on the hull & engine choice. Your troll burn would be hardly any fuel. Total burn for the day would be no more than 70-120 gal. And this is for a Displacement of 15000 lbs & up. Bill.

Tiara makes a very nice soild ride. But seem to be more concentrated on the crusier/fisher. If you want a fishing machine look for a bertram, viking, or Jersey with twin deisels.

Thanks....yeah def. want deisel. still looking at the 42 ft. Tiara. since im new to this...i would imagine a boat this size would run on twin deisel engines?????? if yes, is that going to kill me in fuel cost?????? again, im not trying to run out to the canyons at 30 kts........hopefully 25-26 knots........

My guess would be a burn rate of 26-38 gph on that vessel at 22-26 nts. Only a guess. This means that with this size twin deisel vessel it would cost aprox $600 per trip to buy fuel bait & ice for a day of fishing blue water. If you have a good solid 6 person crew that would be $125 per person shared expenses. The problem many larger vessel owners share is getting enough crew to make it affordable unless of coarse cost is not a big concern. Also remember that twin means twice as much cost to maintain, twice as likely for problems, which actualy equates to more down time cause you cant use the vessel with 1 engine down but twice the chance that problems will occure. Now also rember you will be buying used which means even more un expected expences. Dont get me wrong, I have twin diesels myself & like the boat handeling & confort of redundency but believe me, it comes with an endless cost factor. One that your crew will have no part of let alone any clue about. Please just consider what I'm telling you. Do you have solid regular crew or a fat wallet? If not than look up north for a solid built coustom Down east style boat that although will only cruise 18-21 nts unless over powered for that hull style which is a waste. It will be designed with a full keel that protects the running gear & handles the seas like you wont believe. On a fart flat day you will be passed by 18ft er's like your sitting still but on most days you will love the fact that you are steaming & rigging baits, sleeping whatever without missing a lick. Just leave a half hr before the fleet and save the time & money for fishing not wrenching. I sure am starting to wish I did. Bill REEL FANCY.

BerkedFish, Nice timing on the question. I just toured the Tiara plant in Holland, Michigan last thursday!!!! They put on quite a show. I fish out of VaBeach on my twin diesel Albemarle, and I'm looking to move up, comparing the 35 Carolina Classic, 41 Albemarle, and the 36 Tiara. Here's what I found. Are they as hardcore fishing as Albemarle/Hatt/Bertram? No, but their construction is every bit as good! The other fellas were right about them focusing more on cruising, but they are trying to change their image a bit. I would look at the 38 and the 42 Tiara, or the new 39 Convertable. On any of these, they have a TTS package (Tiara Tournament Series) which totally rigs these boats to fish... gone are the cockpit wetbars, replaced by livewells and fish boxes. Overall, I was very impressed by their operation and quality construction, and if you cruise at all (and the wife likes a nice cabin) I'd look hard at the Tiara. If you are a hardcore fisher, I'd lean towards a Albe/Hatt/Bert/Viking. I hope this helps. Later, Jack

Get a cabo!

thanks for the advice hit n run.........wallet is not fat & crew gives two S%$#. yes the cabin will be a plus....... i plan on checking out jersey & other customs......just always like the tiara. looking at the a 2000/2001 42 open tiara.....nothing new...unless ol lottery comes through

Tiara Yachts - GOOD! My 1989 33 Sport Fish Fly Bridge amazes everyone who fishes aboard. Runs dry and steady. 12.6 beam, 120+ sq ft cockpit, 11k dry weight, 14k loaded (gasoline, crew, gear etc.) burns 25 gph@3200 rpm (2xcrusader 330hp) and SOG = 19-22 kts depending on conditions. Drafts 2.6, 15 foot bridge clearance means no waiting for openings. Carries 320 gallons which translates to well over 200 miles range with plenty of reserve. After 16 years you would be hard pressed to find a single spider or stress crack anywhere. Perfect height of cockpit coming means nice firm leg grip. Tiara non-skid decking is second to none. Wide gunwales and high rails means easy access to the bow in pitching seas. Nice and comfortable cabin. Easily accessible engine room. All in all, a very nice well built boat suitable for fishing or cruising. The newer, the better. The SFFB is not build anymore, but some nice ones can be had. Cost to own? I figure every guy who owns a boat does so because he figured out a way to make it seem practicle.

I own a 2700 Open and it is a great boat. Definitly a compromise boat though. Fluffy enough for the wife below, fishey enough for me in the cockpit. Great resale value - they seem to hover at the same price for years. Mine is a twin inboard 260hp mercs. at 2800 rpm, I am doing about 21knots and getting about 1mpg. I ran offshore last week 166 miles and burned 177 gallons. But is was so flat that we were running 3500 rpms and 27 knots. Not the best rough water boat but respectable. Everything is assembled using the best materials and construction that I have ever seen on a non custom boat. Mine is going on 16 yrs old and I am sure that it will run another 16+. David Pascoe (?spelling) has several reviews online. Good luck!

Compromize? Yes. I agree. When I first got it I compromized with my wife and my budget. Now, the budget is much larger, the wife is gone, but I am still happy with my Tiara. In fact, I started looking at some re-power options. Diesel conversion and swap in a couple of 300 HP Yanmars? Hard to justify the cost. Replace with new Crusaders? The old ones have 1340 hours and still going strong. Sell it and buy the Viking open? I don't know. I am still not looking too far beyond this boat right now. It does everything I ask it to! Besides, it is one of the best looking boats on the water, if I do say so myself!

fished 43' a couple times - nice wide cockpit but noit deep, ride was ok, very high gunnels, felt like a real quality rig

possible to get a used 42 (2000/2001) for under $325K???????

Check into the 36 open. Yuo would burn less fuel than in the 40' range. They look very nice (probably one of my favorites). Plus if you get one with the tower you have your option of driving from the top or below. Makes it nice in January when fishing for those rock off Rudee and NC coast. And it is much easier for 2 or 3 people to fish from, eliminates running up and down a ladder to the flybridge.

I know where a beautiful 2004 43 is right now within that range. Do you want me to make a call?

2004 35' open not 43 twin cats - 500hrs absolutely perfect!

was looking to get into something a little bit bigger ...but i would def. take a look......im in the va bch area.... Trey 748-1762 if there open to showing it to someone thats just starting there search...please tell them to give me a ring.. thanks.....i appreicate it

Re: Tiara does anyone have any idea to why there are so many for sell?? Probably because they're so expensive. Harder to justify ownership.

Is there any problems ??? Not that I'm aware of, except for fuel tank corrosion on older models (which is common with most boats). Tiara's are built like tanks.

My advice- if you can afford a Tiara, go for it. IMO they are the "Rolls Royce" of boats. Hire a marine surveyor for the prepurchase survey and negotiate the best deal based on his findings.

Tiara Yachts 48 LE

Tiara Yachts traces its heritage back to 1946 , when founder Leon Slikkers began his boat-building career at Chris-Craft. Within 10 years he would go on to form his own brand, SlickCraft, embrace fiberglass hull construction and ultimately found S2 Yachts with sons David and Robert in 1974. Initially a builder of sailboats, S2 launched the Tiara powerboat line in 1976 that would ultimately become today’s Tiara Yachts brand. Handcrafted luxury models with virtually all components built in-house in Holland, Michigan , Tiara now produces 10 different models from 34’ to 60’. These include the EX series, powered by Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS) pod drives, and the LS, LX and LE models powered by Mercury Verado outboards.

On this page:

Tiara builds a four-series line of both inboard and outboard-powered boats, divided into LS outboard-powered, center-console dayboats in 34’, 38’, 43’, 48’ and 56’ lengths;; a 34’ LX dual-console bowrider ; 43’ and 48’ LE express cruisers ; and the 54′ and 60’ EX inboard-powered yachts .

The EX Series, which includes the EX 60 and EX 54, embodies flexible luxury and endless adventure. This series combines elements from Tiara’s latest outboard models to put a focus on maximizing exterior enjoyment, while providing all the lavish comforts required for an extended stay that are synonymous with their inboard heritage.

A variety of aft cockpit layouts allow owners to emphasize their choice of cruising comfort, dining or fishing amenities.

  • At 60’, the EX 60 is Tiara’s largest-ever model.
  • Both models feature a large, glass-doored main salon with a full galley and entertainment area.
  • Below deck a trio of staterooms and two full-size heads can accommodate up to six adults.
  • The aft sides of the boat also open on both port and starboard side to expand the deck area, give the cockpit an open feel and allow access to the surrounding waters.
  • Ideal for cruising, overnighting, entertaining .
  • Outboard-powered dayboats with a centerline helm, the LS Series — including the 34LS , 38LS , 43LS, 48LS and 56LS — are great for entertaining a crowd or overnighting for couples or small families.
  • Walkaround access is provided to large, open bows with wraparound seating .
  • Galleys allow for food and drink prep.
  • Customizable cockpit layouts with different aft modules to choose from and transformational seating make the LS lineup ideal for cruising, entertaining, watersports or fishing.
  • Glass windshields are integrated into the hardtops.
  • Below deck, depending on the size of the vessel, include at least one forward berth with private head. Vessels 43 and up feature an additional mid-cabin sleeping accommodation.
  • Ideal for cruising, entertaining, watersports, and fishing .
  • A single 34′ model with twin outboard power, Tiara defines the 34LX as a luxury crossover .
  • A spacious, bow-cockpit social zone is accessed via a centerline walk-thru between the LX’s dual consoles .
  • The spanning windshield is integrated into a hardtop with a manual sunroof .
  • The cockpit offers socially laid-out seating for a crew , including transformational seats that switch from forward focus underway to aft-facing recliners or sunpads.
  • An outdoor galley with sink and refrigerator and port-console head compartment round out the amenities.
  • Ideal for day cruising, watersports, entertaining , hanging out at the sandbar and casual fishing.
  • Two models — the 43LE and 48LE — make up Tiara’s LE series.
  • Luxury-minded, outboard-powered express cruisers , models feature a recessed chaise lounge/sunpad on the bow deck, fully equipped galley in the enclosed salon, rotating aft lounge module with buffet and electric grill and fold-down portside terrace.

Tiara builds two true yachts, the EX 54 and the EX 60 , powered by Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System. Outboard-powered choices include the LS dayboat from 34’ – 56’, a 35’ LX dual-console bowrider , 43’ and 48’ LE express cruisers .

Tiara Yachts is headquartered and boats built in Holland, Michigan.

Tiara works closely with two power partners, Volvo Penta and Mercury. Inboard models use Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS) . Tiara’s outboard models use Mercury Verados.

Tiara Yachts provides Limited Warranty coverage on products sold for use by retail customers . It applies to the original purchaser of the boat but can be transferred to subsequent owners. Coverage includes defects in materials and workmanship in the boat and all components and accessories for two years; structural defects in materials and workmanship in hull and deck for a period of five years; blistering due to defects in material and workmanship in the painted surface of the hull bottom for a period of five years, providing that the surface has not been altered in any way (including sanding, sandblasting or application of a coating other than standard antifouling paint). Exceptions apply.

Tiara Yachts are easy to maintain. Like any boat, basic maintenance, including washing and waxing the fiberglass hull, keeping compartments clean and dry, and cleaning and using protectant on vinyl surfaces will keep any boat looking and performing like new for years to come.

Boats left in the water should have hulls cleaned yearly to remove marine growth; anti-fouling paint on submerged areas of the hull should also be applied.

Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule, including yearly engine service, to ensure reliable, safe operation. Factory-recommended service should be performed at an authorized Tiara Yachts dealer.

All Tiara models are designed with family excursions in mind, with abundant creature comforts and stable, smooth-running hull designs. Depending on model and size, overnight accommodations run from berths for two to full-size cabins, head compartments, showers and galleys perfect for larger groups.

  8. Tiara Sovrans

Along with a bit better build quality, the main reason we bought our 1st Tiara over some of the competition's boats was the width of the walkways. On some others (Formula, Sea Ray etc) they were extremely narrow and had few if any convenient handles for my wife as she was handling lines/fenders. wotan2020, Sep 9, 2017.

Tiaras are a top, though not exclusive target. Two models of interest are Tiara 3800 and 4200. Will probably need to be approx 2005-2012 or so, due to purchase price.

    Tiara's are built like tanks.

My advice- if you can afford a Tiara, go for it. IMO they are the "Rolls Royce" of boats. Hire a marine surveyor for the prepurchase survey and negotiate the best deal based on his findings.

  20. What length Tiara for new boat owner?

A friend has a 1996 33' Tiara Open. I've spent a few evenings aboard the boat, with one offshore jaunt in 3-4 footers from Port Everglades to Hillsboro Inlet.
