The Yacht Club is awesome!! First and most important, best steak you'll ever eat, incredibly tender and always comes out exactly how you want it. Unfortunately, I haven't dabbled much in the rest of the menu, because that's what I get every time I come for dinner! The staff is all amazing and incredibly friendly - they treat you like family. The bar is also a great area to relax and even have dinner, especially with the remodel that was done.

Springfield’s Island Bay Yacht Club is hosting the 60th annual Sunfish North American Championship.
Six countries including the US will be competing for the title of first place. With the male and female winners receiving a silver cup as a prize.
Regatta Chairman Nancy Peterson, said events like this bring the sailing community together.
“This event is important because it brings all these sailors together, we have around 72 competitors and it allows them a chance to compete against each other and they're all vying for the title of first place," Peterson said.
The countries competing include Chile, Argentina, Curaçao, Ecuador, Canada and the US, with the winners crowned on Sunday.
This is the first time the yacht club has hosted the event since 1993.
DAVIS ISLANDS — On Davis Islands, furniture lay strewn outside door fronts Friday as residents and business owners pushed water out of their dwellings and decided what they could keep — and what they had to part with.
Passengers in cars gasped as they drove past lawns with downed trees, and residents exchanged somber smiles. Davis Island Coffee Bar had posted a sign: “Free Coffee, Stay Safe.”
The night before, after Hurricane Helene blew through the Tampa Bay area, many rescue calls had been made from the island. Two homes had caught on fire. Tampa’s mayor, Jane Castor, said she was stunned by how much of the island remained underwater early Friday when she flew over.
The man-made island was developed in the 1920s from mud dredged from the bottom of Tampa Bay and initially designed to be a resort community. In the years since, it’s been home to the likes of Tom Brady, Steven Stamkos and Derek Jeter. It’s currently home to more than 5,000 residents.
As Sam Cochrane, 26, walked on to the island that was initially only allowing emergency vehicles, SUVs and trucks, he worried about those with deeper roots to the enclave. He’s only lived there about four months, but had met people whose tenure spanned 50 years.
He asked neighbors who had been around much longer if they planned to evacuate as Helene approached earlier in the week, and most seemed confident that things would be fine.
“No one expected this much storm surge,” he said.
Around 2 p.m. Thursday, Cochrane evacuated near a stadium. Some of his friends stayed. When they shared photos, he began to worry. Some sat on their beds as water around them rose.
He didn’t know what to expect as home drew near. As he approached the structure, his neighbor Camryn Ritter, 31, handed him trash bags.
“It’s pretty shitty,” she said.
Cochrane took out his phone to record as he unlocked his door.
“Wow,” he said. “Jesus Christ.”
He looked down at the two towels he had placed against the door to sop up water that might get in. They were soaked. He took off his shoes, stepped inside and found his feet submerged.
“It’s not like the warning wasn’t really there,” he said. “I think everyone’s like, we’ll be fine, you know, because it hasn’t happened before. So I think a lot of people are probably like, I’ve lived here 40, 50 years, it’s never happened, so you know, this time will be fine too.”
His neighbor, Ritter, had evacuated on Wednesday. She spent last night watching videos and photos roll in online.
“Part of me just wished I wouldn’t have even seen anything on social media about how bad it was,” she said. “It doesn’t make the anxiety any easier, when you learn about it the day before and you have to actually come and exist in it.”
Faith Pilafas, 24, works at the Davis Islands restaurant and bar 220 East and has lived in a second-story apartment for four years with her boyfriend who works at Davis Islands Coffee Bar.
They knew they would be safe, but stayed in case others in first-floor apartments needed help, Pilafas said.
The storm was overwhelming. The water rose to two feet, then four, then chest level. Her boyfriend got his kayak out and started to help find people who needed to get off the island.
”I don’t think anybody was expecting it,” she said. “We’ve kind of gotten accustomed to lots of talk about big storms, and never actually like feeling the effects of it. So for all the people who didn’t leave the island, I feel like they were all just expecting it to be a normal storm, anticlimactic. And wow, were we surprised.”
Pilafas said the community of Davis Islands is one that frequently bands together.
”I mean, just every single business is, like, totally destroyed,” she said. “But we don’t know anybody who is seriously injured, and so we’re just really grateful that didn’t happen.”
Frank Hernandez, operations manager of Servpro Brandon, a water damage restoration company, spoke with property owners.
“This place was a pool,” he said. “People haven’t seen this in more than 30 years. Everybody who lived on the first floors, all their stuff is destroyed. People are distraught. It’s devastating.”
Some businesses saw battered storefronts and inches of water and muck pulled into their restaurants. Davis Islands Pharmacy continued to play music with a shattered door Friday as employees tossed out unusable goods.
Debra Ogston, one of the owners of Oggi, a beloved Italian spot that has been on the island since 2016, came back to a restaurant of overturned coolers and marks on cabinets indicating that water had at one point been waist-level.
They had prepared and bolstered the restaurant with PVC sandbags, but the last hour of storm surge overpowered.
“At six-and-a-half feet, we were holding,” she said. “We could evacuate from Zone A, but we can’t move our business. We did everything we could to just kind of hunker down.”
Ogston said the morning brought employees, former employees and even a girlfriend and a neighbor of an employee ready to help.
“Everyone sort of pulls together,” she said. “I’m sure if we get this cleaned up to the point where we’re not a public health crisis, we’ll be trying to see what we can do to help others.”
Ogston said before the storm, she had helped a new business on the block prepare with sandbags, and others in the neighborhood had done the same.
“We’re resilient,” she said. “We’re going to go for progress, not perfection. ... The damage here is annoying, and a little heartbreaking. But it’s stuff. Stuff can be replaced.”

Video: boats and docks damaged in tampa after helene.
Chopper 2 captures extensive damage in Tampa, Treasure Island, and Gulfport after Hurricane Helene makes landfall
The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.
Chopper 2 provided a first-hand look at the damage left behind by Hurricane Helene across Tampa Bay after it made landfall on Thursday on Florida's Big Bend.
Helene made landfall just after 11 p.m., but because it was so dark, it wasn't until the sun came up that the scope of the damage could be seen.
Once Chopper 2 arrived, the flooding had receded. But you can still see some of the damage caused by the strong winds and rain.
Tiles and parts of people's yards were damaged, and some boats were moved from their docks.
The helicopter then flew over Treasure Island, where the damage was more severe.
Debris was all over the place, and we saw damage to some buildings and homes. There were also several cars with their hoods up against a wall; it appeared the rain and wind may have tossed them around.
Gulfport experienced some of the worst damage. Several boats were tossed around, some of them on top of each other.
WESH 2 was told this actually started yesterday afternoon when water rushed the boat ramp at the Gulfport Marina and started pushing water into the parking lot and onto the street
An hour later, the entire area was basically underwater.
The city said crews on the island are working to clear sand and debris from the roadways to make them safe and passable.
