Dubrovnik fast passenger ferry to Mljet, Korčula and Lastovo | 2024 timetable

This ferry line connects islands Mljet and Šipan to Dubrovnik . During the summer this ferry continues to Korčula and Lastovo few times in the week and has more departures to and from island Mljet. Passenger ferry operates in wintertime once a day.

Ports: Dubrovnik - Luka Šipanska - Sobra (Mljet) - Polače (Mljet) - Korčula - Ubli (Lastovo).

The boat has a capacity of 200 passengers. It sails from Dubrovnik to the island of Mljet and, during high season, continues to Korčula and Lastovo. This trip is well worth doing, and this ferry connection is about the only one sailing to Mljet Island with schedules that let you return to Dubrovnik on the same day.

Where do I buy ferry tickets?

Ferry tickets for the fast catamaran line to Mljet island are bought online or in Gruž harbour. Just across the street from Jadrolinija office there is small white kiosk. The most important thing to notice is that you can not buy tickets a day before . We recommend that you buy them online in advance or, during high season, you arrive at the kiosk at least one hour before, the line builds quickly and it frequently happens that tickets are sold out.

Dubrovnik to Mljet and Lastovo ferry | 2024 timetable

The catamaran ferry leaves from the corner of the pier in Gruž harbor . Tickets can be bought one hour before departure at the white sales kiosk next to the ship. It is possible to buy tickets in advance online. Tickets are not available on board.

This ferry line links the islands of Lastovo, Korčula, Mljet and Šipan to Dubrovnik. During the summer season connections to Korčula and Lastovo are available several times a week, with increased departures to and from Island Mljet . In the wintertime the passenger ferry operates once a day. Give yourself enough time to explore the amazing Mljet National Park .

How to get from Dubrovnik to Mljet National Park?

If you spend more than a couple of days around  Dubrovnik Old Town  try not to miss the opportunity to visit  Mljet National Park  on Mljet Island. Once you arrive and settle in Dubrovnik, you will find several opportunities to visit Mljet, using either  day trips  organized by Dubrovnik’s travel agents (which are more expensive) or by using public transport (i.e.  local ferries  that are much cheaper ).

If you are a foot passenger , there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs daily from  Dubrovnik (port of Gruz)  to  Mljet . This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel to the island. The alternative is the bus ride & slow ferry. If you are driving and plan to use a car ferry, there are  no direct car ferries  between these two places. You would need to drive along the coast and cross by car ferry from Prapratno (Peljesac).

4 Ways to get from Dubrovnik to Mljet

The distance between Dubrovnik and Mljet across the sea is 30 km (or 16 nautical miles). The easiest and most enjoyable way to travel is by fast passenger ferry (catamaran) . Here are the details:

Departures*: High season – April to October only

Ferry companies that run passenger ferries (HSC) from Dubrovnik to Mljet are Krilo – Kapetan Luka (see its ferry here ) and TP Line (see its ferry here ). All depart from the same terminal in  Dubrovnik ferry port  ( detailed map ) and arrive at the Pomena, Polace, or Sobra ports@Mljet. In case of Bad Weather (important)

In case of bad (stormy) weather, the catamaran (fast passenger ferries) is not sailing. In such circumstances, you have to travel along the mainland coast, by bus or taxi/Uber to Prapratno and cross by car ferry to the island (see details below)

Driving from Dubrovnik to Mljet (Car Ferry)

There are  no direct car ferries  connecting Dubrovnik and Mljet. If you are driving, you have the following options (check the map below):

• Step 1 : Drive from Dubrovnik to Ston (Doli) via roads D8
• Step 2 : Turn left to D414 road to Prapratno
• Step 3:  Cross by car ferry from Prepratno to Sobra (Mljet island) – (ferry run by Jadrolinija )

By this shortest and the fastest driving route, you can reach Mljet from Dubrovnik in just under 2 hours. Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tip – Peljesac Bridge Roadworks

Due to  Peljesac Bridge roadworks, until sometime in summer of 2023, the Ston to the Prapratno crossroads section of the route (about 8 km) may take a bit longer than usual.

By Bus & Ferry

If you prefer to travel by bus, or if the weather is not perfect, you can get a bus from Dubrovnik to Ston several times per day. The bus departs from the bus terminal and drives to Ston, from where you will take a taxi to get to Prapratno ferry port. Buses are fairly frequent in tourist season, while out of season, there are just a couple of buses per day. It takes about 1 hour to reach Ston and another 10 minutes to Prapratno. From there, get on the car ferry to the island. The current ticket cost is about 16 Euros one way – check Arriva for tickets

Dubrovnik to Mljet Taxi, Uber, or Private Car Transfer

A  taxi ride between Dubrovnik and Mljet  lasts about 2 hours including a ferry crossing from Prapratno to Mljet (Sobra). The current price quoted to me is 120 Euros. The quote from UBER is 75 Euros to Prapratno (see quote/map below). If you take Uber to Prapratno, you can then cross as a foot passenger on the cheap car ferry to the island. This is a good travel option if 3 to 4 people travel together and share the costs of the taxi, plus you will save on ferry crossing price too. Once on the island, you can get another taxi to your destination.

Dubrovnik Airport to Mljet

If you are arriving at Dubrovnik airport and plan to travel straight to the island, here are your options:

Popular routes: Split to Dubrovnik , Dubrovnik to Split , Hvar to Dubrovnik , Dubrovnik to Hvar

• Option 1 – get from the airport to the ferry port and from there get on the ferry to Mljet. Bear in mind that the last ferry to the island is at 16:30
• Option 2 – If your arrival at the airport is later than 16:30, get a taxi or Uber to Prapratno and take the car ferry from there. The latest ferry from Prapatno is at 20:30, so if your flight arrives at 18:30 or earlier, you can make it to the island (taking into consideration passport control & luggage collection at the airport). The total cost is about 120 Euro (see below)

There is also a Dubrovnik airport bus shuttle to  Prapratno  for a ferry connection to Mljet island  which you can use for day trips too – see info and arrange private transfer here

Day Trip by local transport

Mljet island is situated across the channel, about 15 nautical miles from Dubrovnik. It takes just under two hours to sail there by fast catamaran ferry. Check the  catamaran ferry schedules at this link .

In the summertime, you will depart at 8 am from Dubrovnik’s port Gruž ( ferry terminal  in front of Hotel Petka) by  Nona Ana ferry  and will arrive at 9.50 in  Polače, Mljet  – the place in the near vicinity of National Park.

You will then have the rest of the day to explore the National Park ( see map ), visit both lakes, have lunch in one of the local restaurants and come back to Polače to get a return journey at 5 pm arriving in Dubrovnik, port Gruž at about 7 pm.

In the wintertime, or  out of the main tourist season  (November to April) the ferry schedule is not as convenient for a day trip, as the ferry leaves for Mljet in the afternoon and sails back to Dubrovnik in the morning, so you will have to spend at least one night on the Mljet. Before booking, try to work out if is it cheaper and more convenient for your own needs to spend a night or two on Mljet, or book a much more expensive day trip by a local agent, spend all day on Mljet and come back to Dubrovnik in the evening in your  Dubrovnik accommodation .

Important warning : If you decide to use Dubrovnik to Sobra fast catamaran, it sails to Sobra village, which is far away from Mljet National Park. Of course, you can always rent a car, take a taxi,  or use your bicycle for cycling to the park but it will take you a long time (the distance between Sobra and Polače is about 25 km). So, you will be better off if you get to Polace or Pomena instead.

On national holidays ferry operates as on working days. NOTE: This is the complete itinerary of Dubrovnik Ferry departures towards Mljet and back. To read this itinerary in the right way follow next instructions: 1. Find port of call that you are departing from 2. Take care of direction side – arrows (left is Dubrovnik to Islands, right is Islands to Dubrovnik) 3. Follow the departure port of call in direction that you want to travel and choose among departure times Bicycles are considered cargo and as such shouldn't be allowed to be taken onboard ships sailing on high-speed lines. However, captain has a right to decide (just before departure, based on current situation) if bicycle can be taken aboard and at what cost. During high season (July and August) it often happens that tickets are sold way in advance so be ready to purchase tickets at least one hour before departure .

Mljet Island – The Island of Odysseus

Mljet island is one of the Croatia’s top highlights and a paradise of pristine nature and eye-catching scenery, peaceful atmosphere for all lovers of swimming, hiking, biking or canoeing.

Mljet is positioned in the South Dalmatian Archipelago. It extends parallel to the eastern half of Peljesac peninsula. It is separated with Mljet channel, 8 km wide.

The island is 37 km long with an average width of 3 km and an area of 100.4 km2. The nearest point to Korcula island is Cape Goli , 18 km away while Cape Gruj , at the southeast of the island is 30 km from Dubrovnik.

Only one-thirds of the island ( northwestern part ) has been transformed into national park from 1960, that covers nearly 5400ha, including sea belt 500m from the coast, islands and reefs.

Mostly covered with Aleppo pine trees, the island was named the Green Island .

The island has a relatively small population, according to the 2011 census, less than 1100 inhabitants. The biggest villages are (from northwest to southeast), Pomena, Polace, Sobra and Saplunara that attract the most visitors. There is only one main road from Promena to Saplunara.

Mljet Island National Park

The most important feature of Mljet island National Park, are two salt water lakes Malo Jezero (Small Lake) and Veliko Jezero (Great Lake), connected to the sea by a narrow canal.

On the small island of St. Mary, in the southern part of Mljet Great Lake, there is a Benedictine monastery with the church of St. Mary. Its area is 0.5 hectares. It was built in 12th century. There is a small restaurant, connected by regularly scheduled small boats.

Mljet National Park can be visited throughout the year. There are three official entrances to the park, and during the tourist season it is open from 8:00 to 20:00.

In the winter period (from the beginning of November to the end of March) they accept visitors only by prior arrangement. The entrance fee for a whole day is 90 Kuna per person while children will have to pay, 30 kuna.

National Park is accessible for pristine nature lovers, strolling along the lakes shaded by pine trees, bicycle through the park, rent a kayak to paddle the lakes or simply swim the clear, blue water.

Getting to Mljet Island

Getting to this island is not as simple as it seems, particularly from Split. Almost nearly 60 years, the main port, Sobra on the island’s eastern side was served by car ferry from Split to Dubrovnik and Korcula (coastal line).

Car Ferry From Peljesac Peninsula To Mljet (Sobra)

If you are traveling by car the most convenient car ferry is from Peljesac peninsula, from Prapratno to Sobra (Mljet).

It’s a 45 minutes sail on 5.5 nautical miles that divide the mainland and Mljet island. See ferry schedules for Prapratno – Sobra!

From Dubrovnik To Mljet Island

From Dubrovnik there is no car ferry connection to island Mljet. Catamaran Nona Ana is sailing on high-speed line Dubrovnik – Sipan – Mljet – Korcula – Lastovo (only in July and August connects Dubrovnik with Korcula and Lastovo Island).

Nona Ana catamaran is fast ship for 200 passengers, with 2 decks, length 28.75 m, width 8.00 m and speed 30 NM. Catamaran leaves from Durrovnik Gruz harbor (Petka pier).

The ticket price (one way) on this line is 35 Kuna (winter period), while in high season will cost you 70 Kuna.

This line is active only in period between May 29th to August 30th, 2015. Sailing schedule is rather complicated and divided in two periods.

The first one is from May 29th to July 2nd while the second one, refers to the period between July 3rd to August 30th.

This catamaran leaves from Dubrovnik Gruz harbor (Petka pier) and ticket can be purchased 30 minutes (up to 1 hour during high season) before departure.

This catamaran is a property of G&V shipping company from Dubrovnik. On their website you can find all sailing information including the predicted time table for high season (July to August).

Getting to Mljet Island From Split

Many travelers have asked me how to get from Split port to Mljet. There is no car ferry from Split to island of Mljet.

Only foot passengers can reach this island from Split, by fast Jadrolinija’s catamaran from June 1st to September 27th. In this period, daily catamaran leaves from Split, at 07,45, arriving at Mljet at 10,40.

This very popular connection calls on the way to Brac, Hvar and Korcula and after Mljet, proceeds to Dubrovnik.

Alternatively a private company Krilo also runs catamaran connections from Split to Pomena and Split to Sobra on Mljet.

Getting Around

For foot passengers there is good news, as every catamaran is connected by bus that takes you around the island. It means that a bus timetable is adjusted to ferry arrivals and departures.

Mljet Island Beaches

At the southeast end of the island of Mljet, there are several sandy beaches. One of them, Saplunara sandy beach is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Southern Dalmatia.

Its name comes from the Latin word sabalum meaning tiny sand. There are two sandy beaches, Big and Small one. They are situated in one kilometer long bay, surrounded by a thick forest of pine.

There is no ferry line to Saplunara, but you can reach this small village by bus or renting a car from Sobra ,  which is only 16km away.

In this quite village you can hire private accommodation, rooms and sea-view apartments. I recommend very modern and comfortable Franka apartments .

Another, even more beautiful sandy beach is located some 20 minutes walking from there in the Blace Bay . It is rather isolated and away from populated places.

The beach is nearly 1 km long, surrounded by centenary pine trees and presents an  example of intact nature. Blace beach is often visited by naturists.

There aren’t any official naturist beaches on the Mljet island and none of the beaches is marked as one.

But the island offers hundreds of lovely, little pebble stone coves and bays, many of them reachable only by boat, where you can be undisturbed and enjoy total privacy as a naturist.  Read more about nudist beaches in Dalmatia!

Jednodnevni iz Dubrovnika do Mljeta je moguć tijekom ljeta s trajektnom vezom između Dubrovnika i Polača . Trajekt polazi iz Dubrovnika u 08:00 u ponedjeljak i petak, a ostalim radnim danima u 9:15. Vrijeme putovanja je oko 1 sat i 40 minuta .

Povratni trajekt iz Polača za Dubrovnik polaz i u 16:55 svakog radnog dana . To znači da imate 6 do 7 sati za istraživanje Nacionalnog parka Mljet.

U Polačama možete iznajmiti bicikl ili prošetati do ulaza u Nacionalni park, što traje oko 35 minuta . ( Napomena : Bicikle možete iznajmiti i na ulazu).

Kao alternativa samostalnom organiziranju izleta, postoje i nekoliko turističkih agencija iz Dubrovnika koje nude cjelodnevne izlete na Mljet.

Da, postoji trajektna linija za automobile koja plovi između Prepratna i Sobre , a polasci trajekata za automobile su prilično česti. (Prepratno se nalazi na poluotoku Pelješcu)

Prapratno ( Peljesac ) - Sobra ( Mljet )  Car Ferry

The "Vanga" often handles this route

This 45-minute ferry is run by Jadrolinija and operates all year. It is the only car ferry that connects Mljet Island with the mainland. Foot passengers can take the Nona Ana which connects Mljet National Park with Dubrovnik or the seasonal Dubrovnik-Mljet-Korcula-Hvar-Brac-Split line. From Sobra, buses are scarce to the National Park but there are usually waiting taxis.

You can buy tickets online at the Jadrolinija website , at any Jadrolinija office or go to the port at least 1/2 hour in advance, buy your ticket at a stall and put your car in the waiting line. You must wait in line even if you buy your tickets in advance.
